Eventually, exhaustion caught up with her body and mind.
Carefully, she loosened Skylar's grip finger by finger, making sure not to wake him. Even after releasing her hand, he remained peacefully asleep.
Sienna stood from the bed, pulled the blanket a little higher over his shoulders, and switched off the bedside lamp before quietly walking toward the door.
Only after she gently closed the bedroom door behind her did she finally release the breath she had been holding.
Earlier, she had hardly dared to breathe too loudly, afraid even the smallest sound would wake him and make him look for her again.
She smiled to herself.
"Don't worry, my son," she whispered softly. "I'll be here before you wake up."
Still smiling, she slowly walked downstairs to the second floor.
However, the moment she stepped off the stairs, her smile gradually faded as she looked around in quiet surprise.
