Chapter 1 - chapter 1

The old shipping yard on the outskirts of New York lay shrouded in silence—a silence that was periodically shattered by the echoing crack of gunfire.

Don't let him get away alive! He has the drive!" a deep, menacing voice boomed from the darkness.

Detective Victor was running for his life. Clutched in his hand was a silver flash drive—containing the complete dossier on the illicit drug empire of 'The Cobra Cartel.' If that drive reached the Federal Bureau, the entire syndicate would end up behind bars.

*Bang!* Suddenly, a bullet tore through Victor's shoulder. He staggered but did not stop. Spinning around, he took precise aim and dropped the shooter dead on the spot. He knew then that neither he nor his family was safe anymore.

Bleeding profusely, Victor somehow managed to reach his apartment. Leo and his mother were waiting for him, terrified. Upon seeing Victor in such a state, his wife was utterly horrified.

Victor! What happened?

Gasping for breath, Victor replied, "There's no time to talk. Pack your things. We have to leave this city—right now. If we aren't out of here in ten minutes, the Cartel will find us!"

Leo could see the fear reflected in his father's eyes. Victor gripped Leo's shoulder tightly and said,

Leo, don't be afraid. Help your mother. We have to disappear.

On that stormy night, Leo's family erased every trace of their identities and fled—leaving that place behind forever.

Ten years had passed. Leo had grown into a serious, taciturn young man. Here, in a quiet corner of the campus, a stunningly beautiful young woman named Zoe stood before Leo, her hands clasped together in supplication. Her eyes were filled with desperation.

"Please, Leo—don't do this. I can't live without you. Did I do something wrong?

Zoe's voice was trembling.

Leo looked at her with eyes as cold as ice.

Zoe, I told you... leave me alone. Whatever was between us is over. My path lies elsewhere."

"But why? Just yesterday you loved me! Are you really breaking up with me?"

Zoe practically screamed.

Leo didn't look back—not even for a single moment. He picked up his bag and walked away without ever turning around.

Five Years Later

Leo was now working a modest job. In the evening, he was returning to his apartment from the market, carrying some essential household supplies.

The moment he opened the door to his home, the ground seemed to give way beneath his feet.

His humble apartment had been completely transformed. It was now furnished with luxurious furniture, and guards stood posted within. Seated on the sofa across from him was a woman dressed in a lavish outfit. Her eyes held that same old spark, yet now it was a blend of power and disdain. It was Zoe—who had since become the CEO of the country's largest tech company.

Sitting beside Zoe was another handsome young man, positioned quite intimately close to her.

The bag of groceries slipped from Leo's hands. He couldn't fathom what his ex-girlfriend was doing inside his home.

With a sharp smile, Zoe looked at Leo and called out sarcastically, "

Oh! My dear husband! You're home? Look how busy I am with my business partner!"

Leo stood stunned. *Husband?* He had never married Zoe!
