Scene 137 — "Run"
The warning horn echoed again.
Closer.
The sound rolled across the crystal forest until even the wooden walls of the house seemed to vibrate.
The brother tightened his grip on the spear.
The elder sister reached for a short blade hanging beside the doorway.
The younger girl stood frozen.
The Traveler took a single step forward.
"I'll come."
"No."
The answer came immediately.
The elder sister turned toward him.
"You've only just regained consciousness."
"Your wounds haven't fully healed."
The Traveler remained calm.
"I can still walk."
"Walking isn't the problem."
The brother shook his head.
"Fighting is."
He looked directly at the white-haired traveler.
"We don't even know if you've ever fought one of these creatures."
The Traveler said nothing.
The elder sister opened the door.
"Stay here."
"If we're fortunate, we'll return before sunset."
Another horn sounded.
This time—
it ended abruptly.
Silence followed.
A silence that chilled the air.
Then—
footsteps.
Fast.
Uneven.
Someone was running.
The three siblings turned toward the path.
A lone figure burst from between the crystal trees.
His clothes were torn.
Blood covered one shoulder.
He stumbled twice before collapsing onto one knee only a few steps from the house.
The brother rushed forward.
"What happened?"
The man struggled to breathe.
His eyes were filled with panic.
"It..."
He swallowed hard.
"It broke through..."
The elder sister knelt beside him.
"The patrol?"
The man slowly shook his head.
His voice trembled.
"Gone..."
A long breath escaped him.
"We couldn't stop it."
The younger girl's face lost its color.
The survivor looked toward the forest.
As though expecting something to emerge at any moment.
"It doesn't hunt."
His words were barely more than a whisper.
"It destroys."
A deep rumble rolled across the valley.
The ground shivered beneath their feet.
Far beyond the trees—
the tops of crystal pines suddenly snapped.
One after another.
Not falling naturally.
Shattered.
Something immense was forcing its way forward.
Another crash.
A crystal outcrop exploded into glittering fragments.
The sound reached them a heartbeat later.
The survivor's breathing became frantic.
"It doesn't go around anything..."
His eyes remained fixed on the forest.
"It goes through it."
The trees swayed violently.
A towering crystal trunk was ripped from the earth and disappeared from sight.
The impact that followed shook the hillside.
Dust rose above the forest canopy.
Birds erupted into the sky in terrified flocks.
The Traveler watched in complete silence.
The destruction continued.
A boulder tumbled from the mountainside.
Another line of trees collapsed.
Whatever was advancing showed no sign of slowing.
No hesitation.
No change in direction.
Only relentless forward movement.
The brother slowly lowered his spear.
For the first time—
uncertainty crossed his face.
The elder sister stood.
Her voice remained controlled, but urgency had entered it.
"We leave."
The younger girl looked toward the house.
"What about—"
"We all leave."
The elder sister looked briefly at the Traveler.
"That includes you."
Another deafening crash echoed through the valley.
This one was closer.
Much closer.
The crystal forest bent as though something enormous had just pushed through its heart.
Then—
everything became still.
Not because the creature had stopped.
Because it had reached the edge of the forest.
And whatever stood beyond the trees...
was now looking toward the settlement.
