Then it struck them all as they were wandering around in the game's starting areas. Though everything was painstakingly crafted to be exactly as it would have been in reality. There was one thing that was missing that everyone discovered rather quickly.
Non Player Characters
NPCs
There were none of them in any of the starting areas at all. Every building was fully stocked with everything you would expect to find. However, there was no one there to man those places or carry out the daily task of keeping such an area as the ten starting areas functionally beyond merely just existing alone. That led to many players who were disappointed logging out and filing a complaint to Kynatech about everything they saw within the Decagon game.
Their reply was:
When did we ever say there were NPCs in the game at all
Then there would be those who try to counter that they said that the world would be a truly free, open world game where the players decide everything and anything that happens within it.
Their reply being:
Why would you assume that in such a game NPCs would exist? As we told you, players decide everything and anything after all. It was clearly stated numerous times that this was the case, as you merely assumed that meant NPCs were to be present despite being told it was player driven only
When they tried claiming all games have NPCs present in them they were told once again that this game does not they were told that upfront from the start. Nothing they ever posted about the game suggested there would be non player characters in the game. However, everything they did posted about the game repeatedly and consistently pushed that this is Player only driven world where Players decide everything and anything within the game world on their own. They have true and complete freedom to do whatever they want, whenever, and however they want at all times. Assuming there would be NPXCs in this scenario was their own fault and not the fault of Kynatech. They continuously and constantly explained what the game was and would be, as the misunderstanding of others about the game is not their problem or concern.
More complaints were filed when they ventured out of the starting areas to discover that there were no monsters, creatures, or mobs of any kind outside of either. These were counted as NPCs as well since they were not players after all. The same reply was given to these complaints, as well as they backed it up with proof that they were merely assuming something that was never promised to them in the first place. They were told exactly what the game was with no lies or falsehoods, and merely assumed things on their own about what they thought it was, rather than what it truly was. Kynatech was thus not at fault for them creating a game in their heads that was not the game in reality.
Then, the false advertising claims were filed against them, which they would make once the beta test was over. That was countered by the fact that there was no false advertising, as everything was clearly and plainly directly stated to them with visible proof and backing for what they were claiming the game was the entire time. They clearly and cleanly stated all these things to them ahead of time. If they misunderstood what they were told, then that was not the fault of Kynatech. This was not a case of them being technically correct, the best kind of correct, either, as someone can claim that something contains only fruits when the only thing present within is things like tomatoes and other fruits that are technically fruits but often passed as something else. They were normally correct, as looking back at the all the promos, they only ever showed the world itself, nothing else. Whenever a character was shown, it was clearly and blatantly stated and revealed to be a player character only. No NPCs were ever shown, ever, not even once, for anything at all.
And so this was not a case of false advertising or technically correct, the best kind of correct. It was just one of them assuming too much of something that clearly and cleanly showed you what it was, but not everyone accepted that. They rejected reality and substituted their own, and even though they were faced with the actual reality, they could do nothing about it. All they could do was remain where they were until the beta test was over, as they could not leave this area even if they wanted to now. That just how the things were set up that they were unable to leave without facing the penalty for doing so because of the paperwork they signed. Just like the game itself, the paperwork was done in the same manner, as there was nothing hidden from them. They were told everything and anything that was present on it. From the good, the bad, the ugly, and even the fine print was fully and completely explained to them in detail before they were asked to sign. Those who did not fully agree to everything after being informed of everything that was present on the paperwork. They were denied the right to move forward and were replaced by someone else who would do so.
That delayed the process as it was not done until there were ten thousand and nine people who agreed to everything after all. The number of people who made it that far only to turn away at once reaching that point was not counted. Though the numbers, however, could be vast and extensive after all, as this was not something that Kynatech advertised outside of the niche market that wanted something like this. Keeping it at a grassroots level so that not even an independent outlet was aware of its existence at all. Kynatech knew how to deal with both the mainstream and independent media, after all.
