" What in the name of the galaxy took you so long, we were about to be overrun by droid forces " Delta said, his attention focused on the man approaching him.
" Well, here I thought you'd be more happy to see me. " Prime joked as he looked to the man on his right who simply chuckled at him.
" Cut it out Prime, what's the idea behind this? " Delta pushed, unwilling to entertain his brothers antics at this critical moment.
" Well, you're no fun...." Prime replied in a disapproving tone but then switched quickly as he turned to the sound of explosions tearing through the air in the distance. " The general needs us to tie the separatists attention here, he intends to end this campaign finally " Prime informed him as he signalled his men approaching.
They, upon seeing the signal, picked up the pace and began to direct the approaching forces to join the front line and reinforce where they could to help push back the incoming wave.
" Well that's quite the ask. How exactly are we meant to do that when we are facing a wide area assault all through our lines, we'd need a juicy target or lots of bodies. " Delta said aloud as he went into thought, that order would be difficult to execute especially now.
" Well.." Prime started, bringing Delta's attention to him as he retrieved what seemed to be a saber from his back waist and a saber he knew all too well. " That's why we've got this." Prime finished, smirking under his helmet as he waved the saber in front of Delta and now he knew exactly why he was late.
They say that the best way to fight a superior enemy is to fight unfairly, and when you are fighting an equal enemy then fight even more unfairly.
That principle is what has guided warfare for many many years, it is how unseen victories are made and how the battlefield became the equalizer to all. So too does that principle guide the forces stationed on this planet, fighting against an enemy far more superior in numbers to them.
" Storms calming down a bit " A voice said.
" Doubt it, last I heard, this storm will be lasting for the next 6 hours at least. We're stuck here until then " A reply came.
" Guess we better seat tight then...oh, incoming clankers. " The voice began but quickly alerted his comrade as he looked through the sight of his rifle, his helmet showing a new platoon of droids that had made it towards them.
" Remember not to aim too upwards, we want to hit their heads not the air. "
" I know that, shouldn't you be preparing to take over? Why is your rifle all the way over there?" The clone said as he saw the rifle of his brother simply resting by his side.
" Eh, you've got this. Those things have been pouring in for the past hour. I doubt any major offensive would make it past this blizzard. " A reply came.
" Haven't the commander told you not to jinx things?"
" He also said that it is merely a belief and not real, so pay it no heed. "
" Dank farrik, why did I have to get paired up with you of all people? "
" Hey hey, this 'you' has a name you know. "
" Yes, a name gotten to specifically spite me. I refuse to acknowledge it."
" And you think Spark is better?"
" Far better than Genx " Spark retorted but before his brother could reply, he stopped him with his sight as more droids seemed have made it past the storm.
Just then, their coms beeped in a patterned sound, signifying the next phase of the operation and he let his blaster run.
The plan for them was simple, draw in the separatist forces and use the blizzard to mask their arrival through underground trenches or in this case, snow. The signal was to let the clones buried beneath the snow to begin letting loose and create as much noise as possible. This would also serve to distract whatever forces were left and make them blind to the main force making their way past them.
It was a risky plan especially if only a few droid companies were sent to take the bait, still would be better than attacking the fortified position head -on though. Communications was fizzy and broken at best but thanks to some foresight, a rough idea on when things should progress had already been laid out.
Of course not set in stone, some things were still left up to the commanders above but generally it was similar and now, the soldiers underneath had heard their own signal and began to move. The tunnel would only take the far enough to be right under the fortified position and then they would have to learn unto their commander to lead the charge.
That commander Keenan Quad - Anrer, Jedi commander of the 75th clone battalion and leader of the current campaign.
" Jarhead, tell the boys to get ready - we're moving up " Quad said to one of his captains, specifically the only one to volunteer for this semi suicide mission among his other captains. A daring young man to be sure and certainly loyal to a fault.
" Yes general, " He replied sternly before turning his back and speaking to his men, the word spread around them quickly as they prepared themselves for the coming assault they would undertake.
" Sir, remind me again why we aren't trying to aide our forces under assault by the main droid forces. " A clone questioned as he moved forward next to his general.
" Because, what we are about to do will win us this campaign and frankly I am quite impatient for that. " Quad replied to him as he waited for Jarhead to finish up.
" With all due respect sir, you waited with us in an unmoving position for almost a month and when we asked why we were just waiting, you said it was a siege and you wanted to starve the enemy sir. " The clone replied, his tone clearly showing some surprise as too the reasoning of his general.
" Yes and we succeeded, quite spectacularly. " Quad replied in an honest tone. The clone wasn't sure whether to point out the obvious wrongness in trying to starve a fully mechanical force or that sieging a droid factory was not necessarily the best course of action but he decided not too in the end.
" So, wouldn't it be better to use this opportunity to maintain the siege sir? After all, we could keep waiting and buy more time until the surrounding droid forces are completely crushed. " He continued.
" Well, that's true but then I'll miss tea time and trust me on this, you do not want to miss tea time especially if you're me." Quad replied and the clone, after pausing for a few seconds decided that trying to decipher a Jedi's way of thinking was much too much for him and chose to remain silent and just in time too.
" Sir, the boys are ready" Jarhead announced as he returned to his general's side. They had roughly a companies worth of men here and they won't be getting any more for the foreseeable future.
