Following my formal request from Principal Nezu—and by extension, U.A. High School—to handle their Cursed Spirit countermeasures, I was presented with two things: an "internship" role and a brand-new residence.
As for the latter, I haven't the faintest idea how or why it happened so quickly. Nevertheless, a house now stands a short distance from the main school building. Built in a mere two hours, it is a single-story, rectangular structure—a longhouse made of concrete and stone. It takes less than three minutes to walk there from the school, and less than one if I run. From this day forward, Himiko and I are to live here. A "dormitory life," so to speak.
The reason for this arrangement is, of course, the unresolved issue of Cursed Spirits. Between the Playful Cloud I stumbled upon and the mountain of low-grade Cursed Tools the Principal sourced, the U.A. teachers are now technically capable of exorcising Curses even without Cursed Energy of their own. However, several problems remain.
The primary issue is that no one besides myself or my mother can actually see the Cursed Spirits. If you cannot see them, you cannot exorcise them. You cannot even detect an intrusion. Until this problem is solved, I have been tasked with the dual role of Cursed Spirit sweep and Cursed Tool sentry.
The dormitory actually has a basement where all the Cursed Tools are stored. By living on the first floor, I serve as the literal lid on the treasure chest. I accept this as a necessity. I am the only one who can do the job, and I intended to do it from the start.
However... there is one problem. One inevitable, unavoidable issue that arrives once—or at most twice—a month.
...Yes. My... period.
When it arrives, I am rendered completely immobile. I can force my body to move if I must, but I cannot exert my usual strength. When I explained this reality to Principal Nezu, he was surprisingly unfazed. In fact, he declared with absolute certainty that he would establish a method for non-sorcerers to see Curses by the time my next cycle arrived. I must admit, I felt a certain sense of reliability in him then.
Still, I find the notion near-impossible, so I told him I would do whatever I could on my end as well.
...Ugh. I have to take the medicine. The medicine Recovery Girl gave me... I have to drink it...
I don't want to... I hate it... I hate medicine!
Sigh. Throwing a tantrum won't help. I have to get used to taking medicine properly. If I don't, Himiko might try to force-feed it to me via mouth-to-mouth again. I desperately want to avoid that. She never stops at just the medicine... she always uses it as an excuse for her "harassment." When it happened before, she...
...I don't even want to remember it.
I will learn to take the medicine. I truly, deeply don't want to, but I will.
Finally, there is the biggest problem: I am being targeted by the League of Villains. Consequently, the possibility of my parents or Himiko being dragged into the crossfire is extremely high.
To protect me, a U.A. teacher—a Hero—will be assigned as a guard. My parents will have protection as well. While it's true that a Cursed Spirit attack would be "game over" for them, a Hero can at least handle an ordinary villain.
I don't know why the League is after me, but I wish they would stop involving those around me. If they lay a hand on them, I will kill them. I will absolutely kill them. I will hunt them to the ends of the earth and end them with my own hands. ...Though, the moment I think like that, I'm falling right into their trap. I know it's bad, but my parents in this life are precious to me. And so is Himiko. My heart is in turmoil... I am worried sick.
If my parents moved into the dorms as well, I could finally breathe easy. Perhaps I should ask the Principal about that later.
"Madoka-chan, let's take a bath."
