Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Mantis Cursed Spirit

Watching Rin suddenly freeze in place, Miguel, hiding in the shadows, rubbed his large bald head in confusion.

He didn't understand what was wrong with Rin; clearly, he wasn't injured, so why didn't he finish off that Cursed Spirit immediately?

Although he was full of questions, he couldn't ask on the spot. The mission Suguru Geto had given him was to protect Rin from the shadows; unless there was a life-threatening situation, he was not allowed to intervene, so he could only bury his questions in his heart and wait to ask later.

Just then, the previously frozen Rin finally moved.

He gripped the iron rod with both hands and slowly lifted it, then thrust it fiercely into the eyes of the Ox-Head Cursed Spirit, ending its suffering.

Activating the Sharingan, the Ox-Head Cursed Spirit's massive body slowly vanished before his eyes. Rin did not linger, turning around to walk toward the corpse of the other Cursed Spirit.

Arriving before the corpse, which had been smashed beyond recognition, Rin wore a complex expression.

Recalling just now, when that Cursed Spirit stuffed a thigh into its mouth, Rin suddenly associated it with the large-headed Cursed Spirit in the warehouse that had devoured its own companion.

After that large-headed Cursed Spirit ate its companion's head, its strength had surged, and that large head had grown more than twice its original size.

Through the actions of the Ox-Head Cursed Spirit, Rin finally understood that it hadn't been a coincidence; for some unknown reason, the Cursed Spirits in this school could devour each other through battle to become stronger.

Could this be Suguru Geto's plan—to cultivate high-grade Cursed Spirits by having low-grade Cursed Spirits slaughter each other?

So this wasn't a battle royale, but a jujutsu kaisen version of a battle royale game.

But this plan seemed quite mediocre at the moment; after sacrificing a hundred low-grade Cursed Spirits, he hadn't even seen a single Grade 1 Cursed Spirit yet.

No wonder it never appeared in the subsequent manga; it seemed this experiment would ultimately end in failure.

Wait, suddenly, Rin thought of something. Would his sudden appearance cause any accidents? And he was very likely already being watched by Suguru Geto.

With his terrifying Special Grade strength, coupled with his absolute control over Cursed Spirits, it was impossible for him not to have discovered him. Yet he hadn't appeared yet; could it be that he had also listed him as part of the experiment?

And as a test subject, there would only be one survivor in this experiment.

After understanding everything, Rin didn't dare to delay any longer. He activated the Sharingan to devour the Cursed Spirit's corpse. Time was life, and he had already wasted too much of it; he had to kill them before those Cursed Spirits became even stronger.

Thinking of this, Rin immediately took action and began searching around the campus.

During this time, Rin felt the changes in his own strength after absorbing two more Cursed Spirits.

Both Cursed Spirits were Grade 3 Cursed Spirits, and the Ox-Head Cursed Spirit was on the verge of breaking through to Second-Grade, which was why Rin had been so anxious to jump down; if he had waited for it to finish eating the other Cursed Spirit's body, its strength would surely have become even more terrifying.

After devouring them, Rin's body became even stronger.

Looking at the streetlamp in front of him, Rin leaped with all his might, his body shooting out like an arrow released from a bow. He reached out his left hand in mid-air, grabbed the streetlamp, applied a little force, flipped over, and stood on top of the streetlamp.

Slowly crouching down on the two-story-high streetlamp, Rin rested the iron rod on his shoulder and looked at the spot his left hand had just gripped. The originally sturdy streetlamp had already been crushed and deformed.

It seemed that his physical constitution, both in strength and defense, was approaching the intensity of a Second-Grade Cursed Spirit. In the process of absorbing Cursed Spirits these few times, Rin also discovered that to evolve his Sharingan to Two Tomoe, he would need at least one Second-Grade Cursed Spirit or ten Grade 3 Cursed Spirits to achieve it.

Even the Cursed Energy in his body had further increased, almost reaching the level of a Second-Grade Cursed Spirit, but the awkward thing was that the current Rin had no other skills to use Cursed Energy other than the Sharingan.

He had to act quickly; only by advancing the Sharingan to the second level could he unleash the true power of these eyes.

Just then, Rin suddenly turned his gaze to the iron rod in his hand. After these few battles, it was already somewhat dilapidated; after all, it was just an ordinary iron rod, not a Cursed Tool, so it was truly remarkable that it had held up until now.

But if he could coat the iron rod in Cursed Energy, he could not only greatly increase the iron rod's power but also ensure that his weapon wouldn't break during battle.

But this was not an easy task. After all, Rin had just become a Jujutsu Sorcerer and was not very skilled in the use of Cursed Energy. Although his Cursed Energy was very abundant, blindly infusing it into the iron rod would likely cause it to collapse directly.

Therefore, it was best to practice on something else first, but he didn't have that much time to practice right now.

Thinking this to himself, Rin suddenly seemed to hear something and turned his head to look behind him.

He saw a group of students crying and screaming as they ran desperately toward the teaching building ahead.

Their school uniforms were covered in blood, and they looked terrified, but their speed was not slow at all; each of them was running with all their might, as if the Grim Reaper were chasing them from behind.

But in Rin's field of vision, there was nothing behind them; there wasn't even a shadow of a Cursed Spirit.

Seeing this, Rin did not act blindly but chose to continue crouching on the streetlamp, observing vigilantly.

Suddenly, a girl fell to the ground. She was weak and petite, so she was already running slowly, and now she immediately fell behind the others. The girl was terrified and wanted to call out to the others for help.

Rin, on the streetlamp, suddenly widened his eyes.

The buzzing sound of bees flapping their wings pierced his ears like sharp blades.

The girl, still immersed in panic, looked up to call for help, but only felt a gust of wind sweep over from above.

The classmates who had originally been running in front of her suddenly felt their bodies become very light, as if they had been blown up by this wind.

The next second, their bodies really did fly up, but their lower halves remained standing on the spot.

The girl stared with wide eyes, watching as the classmates in front were all severed in two and fell to the ground, blood gushing out like a fountain and forming a pool of blood. Tears fell uncontrollably; the girl opened her mouth to say something, but couldn't make a sound. She could only lie on the ground, dazed and unable to say a word.

Rin, perched on the streetlamp, witnessed everything. It was a Mantis Cursed Spirit; on its dark green head, compound eyes looked at the corpses on the ground without any emotion. Its two massive sickle-like forelegs weren't stained with a single drop of blood, and the long, slender wings on its back were the important weapons it used to launch that lightning-fast strike.

Rin stared intently at the Mantis, which was a full person's height, not daring to relax for a moment. That strike just now was too terrifying; his One tomoe Sharingan hadn't even managed to capture its figure.

This guy's strength must have reached the intensity of a Second-Grade Cursed Spirit.

Just then, the Mantis Cursed Spirit ignored the girl lying on the ground, and as if it had sensed something, it looked up toward Rin on the distant streetlamp.
