Chapter 6 - The Melancholy of Alan

When did Alan ever stop believing in Santa Claus? In truth, this sort of silly question holds no real significance for me. However, if you were to ask him when he stopped believing that the old man wearing the red costume was Santa, then he can confidently say: he has always believed in Santa. Even if he knew that the Santa who appeared at a Christmas party was a fraud, plus everyone shared the same look of disbelief watching someone pretend to be Santa. Although he had never seen his mommy kissing Santa Claus, Alan was already wise enough to be suspicious about the existence of an old man who worked only on Christmas Eve.

Alan is thinking about what he saw from that weird vision and this Angella person he talked to.

He was walking down the path of a nice and quiet valley heading to the Starlight Estate, his mothers' luxury home that resides on the country side.

However, it took him quite a bit longer to wonder if the aliens, time-travelers, ghosts, monsters and espers in those effects-filled 'good guys versus evil organization' cartoons actually exist or not. No, wait, he probably did realize, he just didn't know about it. Deep inside his heart he wanted those aliens, time-travelers, ghosts, monsters, superheroes, and evil organizations to suddenly appear. Compared to a boring, normal life, the world of those flashy shows was much more exciting; What he didn't know was that he does live in that world!

And so, he arrives at the Starlight Estate.

The soft rustling of leaves filled the quiet countryside as Alan stepped into the living room, the wooden floor creaking gently beneath his feet. Sunlight streamed through the open windows, casting warm golden beams across the room.

Beside him, a small yellow Pokémon—Pichu—peeked around curiously.

"Pichu… pi?" it chirped, ears twitching.

Alan scanned the room. "…Mom?" he called out.

No answer.

He stepped further inside, then paused.

Through the open back doorway, he spotted her.

Gine—known on Earth as Li Chun Kamiya—was kneeling in the vegetable garden, carefully pulling weeds from the soil. Rows of fresh carrots, tomatoes, and leafy greens stretched around her, the scent of earth and life filling the air.

Her dress gi brushed lightly against the soil as she worked, her movements calm and practiced. Sweat glistened slightly on her skin from the warmth of the sun, but her expression remained peaceful.

She sighed softly.

"…It's a beautiful day," she murmured to herself.

After finishing a row, she sat back on her heels and reached up, gently removing her hat. A breeze passed through, brushing her hair and cooling her face.

She looked up at the sky.

For just a moment… she was still. "Momma!" Gine's eyes widened slightly. She turned— and saw him.

"Alan."

Her face lit up instantly, warmth spreading through her expression. Alan ran toward her, Pichu bouncing along beside him. "Hey mom!" he said, slightly out of breath. "I wanna show you something I found on Adventure Island!"

"Pichu!" the little Pokémon added proudly.

Gine stood up, brushing dirt from her hands, her smile soft and welcoming.

"Okay," she said gently.

Moments later, they sat together on the floor mat inside.

The room felt peaceful—like a place untouched by the chaos of the outside world.

Gine folded her legs neatly beneath her.

Alan sat across from her, excitement practically glowing in his eyes. Pichu sat between them, tail flicking.

"Alright," Gine said, tilting her head slightly. "Let me see." Alan nodded and carefully reached into his bag.

Slowly… He pulled it out.

A radiant white crystal star rested in his hands.

It shimmered faintly—soft, pure light pulsing from within like a heartbeat. The room subtly brightened.

Pichu's ears stood straight up. "Pichu…!"

Gine's expression changed. Not fear. Not confusion. Recognition. "…That's not ordinary," she said quietly.

Alan nodded.

"I found it deep in Adventure Island," he explained. "There was this… lizard lady using some kind of machine digging for it."

Gine's eyes narrowed slightly. "She attacked me to take it."

The air grew still.

Gine reached forward slowly, her hand hovering just above the crystal.

She didn't touch it yet. She felt it. "…This energy…" she whispered.

It wasn't just power. It was ancient.

Cosmic.

Familiar… in a way that made her heart uneasy. She finally looked up at Alan. "You said she was searching for it?"

Alan nodded again. "Yeah. Like she knew it was there."

Gine gently placed her hand over his. "Then this isn't just something you found…" she said softly.

"…It's something important."

The crystal pulsed once more. Brighter this time. For a split second— A faint image flickered inside it.

Stars. A gate. Something… awakening.

Gine's expression hardened just slightly.

Not fear. But readiness. She squeezed Alan's hand gently. "We're going to figure out what this is," she said.

Then, with a small smile returning— "But first… you did well coming straight to me."

Alan smiled.

Pichu jumped happily. "Pichu!"

Gine looked down at Alan and Pichu, her expression softening, warmth returning to her eyes like sunlight after a passing cloud. "And," she said gently, a small smile forming, "I think my brave explorer and his little partner have earned something to eat."

Alan's eyes lit up instantly. "Really?!"

Pichu bounced excitedly. "Pichu! Pichu!"

Gine nodded with a soft laugh.

"Yes, really… especially since it's someone's special day today."

Alan blinked. "…Special day?" He tilted his head.

Then— His eyes widened. "…Wait." He froze. "…Oh." Pichu looked up at him. "Pichu?" Alan scratched the back of his head sheepishly. "…I forgot."

Gine smiled warmly. "Your birthday, Alan."

A gentle breeze passed through the open window as the moment settled. Alan looked down at his hands, then back up at her. "…I'm ten now." Gine stepped closer and gently placed her hand on his head, ruffling his hair.

"You are." Her voice carried pride. "And you've already grown so much."

Alan smiled softly.

Gine turned toward the kitchen. "Come on. I'm going to make something special for you." Alan's stomach immediately growled.

"Yeah… I'm really hungry." Gine chuckled knowingly. "That doesn't surprise me."

She glanced back with a playful smirk.

"With your metabolism? I'll need to cook enough for three people."

"Hey!" Alan protested, laughing.

Pichu raised a paw proudly. "Pichu!"

The kitchen quickly filled with life.

Gine tied her apron around her waist, moving with natural grace as she began preparing ingredients—washing vegetables, cutting, heating pans.

Alan sat at the table, swinging his legs slightly, watching her.

Pichu sat beside him, nose twitching at the smells already filling the air.

"…Mom?"

Gine glanced over her shoulder. "Yes?" Alan hesitated. "…Where's Mom Marina?" Gine's movements slowed slightly.

Then she smiled gently. "She had to leave early this morning."

Alan blinked. "…Oh."

"To help the Sailor Guardians," Gine continued, stirring a pot.

"There's trouble in Japan." Alan's expression softened with understanding. "…That sounds like her."

Gine nodded. "She wanted to be here today… but duty called."

She turned slightly, her eyes warm. "But she told me to tell you something."

Alan looked up. "What?"

Gine smiled. "She said—" She paused just long enough to make it feel special. "'Tell Alan happy birthday… and that I'm proud of him.'"

Alan's eyes widened slightly. "…She said that?"

Gine nodded. "And she said she'll make it up to you when she gets back."

Alan smiled—soft, but genuine. "…That's okay."

He looked down for a moment, then back up. "I can still spend today with you." Gine's expression warmed even more. "I'd like that very much." Just then— Knock. Knock.

Pichu's ears perked. "Pichu!"

Gine turned toward the door. "Ah… right on time." She walked over and opened it.

Standing outside— Julie Kamiya.

Julie smiled warmly, carrying baskets filled with fresh ingredients—vegetables, herbs, meats, and spices.

"I figured you'd need help feeding a growing Saiyan appetite," she said lightly.

Gine smiled. "You always know."

Alan ran over. "Grandma Julie!" Julie's face lit up instantly. "Well, if it isn't the birthday boy." She set the basket down and gently placed her hands on his shoulders.

"Happy birthday, Alan."

Alan smiled. "Thanks, Grandma."

Pichu hopped up. "Pichu!" Julie laughed softly. "And hello to you too." Soon, the kitchen became lively.

Julie began helping Gine—chopping, seasoning, organizing. The sounds of cooking filled the home:

sizzling pans 🍳 bubbling broth 🍲 chopping vegetables 🔪

Alan watched with growing excitement. "…That smells really good." Gine smirked slightly. "You haven't seen anything yet."

Julie added playfully— "We're just getting started."

The kitchen was alive with warmth—steam rising, flavors blending, laughter quietly filling the air.

Gine stirred a simmering pot while Julie worked beside her, skillfully preparing ingredients with practiced ease.

Alan leaned against the doorway, watching. "…How long do you think it'll take?" he asked.

Julie glanced over with a gentle smile. "Oh, this isn't just a meal, sweetie. This is a birthday feast."

Gine nodded. "It's going to take a while." Alan's shoulders slumped slightly. "…Oh."

His stomach growled again. "Pichuuu…" Pichu agreed, rubbing its belly.

Julie paused, then exchanged a knowing look with Gine.

Gine turned to Alan, her expression thoughtful but warm. "Alan… why don't you go out for a bit?"

Alan blinked. "…Go out?"

Julie nodded. "Meet some kids your age," she said kindly. "You don't always have to stay inside with us."

Gine added softly— "You've been on adventures, trained hard… but you should have time to just be a kid too."

Alan shifted slightly. "…You mean… like exploring around town?"

"Exactly," Julie said. "Maybe even invite some friends back later."

Gine smiled. "I think your mother Marina would want that too." Alan looked down for a moment. Then back up. "…Yeah." A small smile formed. "I kinda do want to go out."

Pichu perked up instantly. "Pichu!"

Julie chuckled. "Looks like your partner agrees."

Gine stepped closer, gently placing a hand on his shoulder. "You don't have to stay by our side all the time, Alan." Her voice softened. "We'll always be here… but the world is waiting for you too."

Alan nodded.

"…Okay."

Moments later— Alan slipped on his shoes and stepped out the front door, Pichu hopping along beside him.

The sunlight greeted him warmly. The breeze carried the scent of flowers, fresh earth… and something new.

Alan took a deep breath. "…Feels different."

Pichu looked up at him. "Pichu?"

Alan smiled. "I guess… I've always been with Mom or training." He looked out toward the path leading into town. "…But today's different." He took a step forward.

Then another.

The village stretched out ahead—alive with movement:

Kids running and playing

People talking and laughing

The distant sound of a bell ringing

Alan slowed slightly, taking it all in. "…There's a lot more out here than I thought." Pichu hopped ahead excitedly. "Pichu! Pichu!"

Alan laughed. "Hey, wait up!"

As he walked further from home, something stirred inside him. Not fear. Not uncertainty. Something else. Curiosity. Excitement. Possibility.

Sunlight shimmered across the heart of Starlight Town, casting golden light over cobblestone paths and colorful rooftops. The town felt like something out of a dream—bright, lively, and filled with warmth.

At the center stood a beautiful fountain crowned with a glowing star, water sparkling like tiny diamonds beneath the sky. Around it were:

🍞 Cozy bakeries with sweet aromas drifting through the air

🔮 Mystical shops filled with glowing trinkets

🎮 A lively arcade buzzing with laughter and energy

🌸 Flower stands bursting with color

Leaf stepped into the town, her eyes wide with wonder.

"…Wow."

Pikachu hopped onto her shoulder, equally amazed. "Pikaaa…"

Leaf smiled, turning slowly as she took everything in. "This place is amazing." She walked forward, passing by a bakery window filled with pastries. "Okay, that smells really good." Pikachu sniffed the air excitedly. "Pika!"

As they explored, Pikachu quickly made new friends.

Nearby, a few Pokémon gathered:

A playful Eevee chasing its tail

A curious Buneary hopping around

A calm Oddish swaying gently in place

"Pika pika!" Pikachu greeted them happily. Leaf laughed softly. "Looks like you're making friends already."

The atmosphere was peaceful.

Friendly. Safe.

Then— WHOOSH!

A sudden blue blur shot past Leaf. "W—Whoa!" she spun around— and immediately got dizzy. "Ugh… okay… that was fast…"

Pikachu blinked rapidly. "Pika?!"

The wind it left behind rustled her hair and clothes. Leaf steadied herself. "…What was that?" WHOOSH!

The blur returned—circling her once before stopping. Dust lightly kicked up from the ground.

And standing there— Was a boy.

Alan stood with a confident, curious expression, slightly leaning forward like he had just stopped mid-run.

Pichu peeked out beside him. "Pichu!"

Leaf blinked. "…You."

Alan tilted his head slightly. "Sorry about that," he said casually. "Didn't mean to spin you around."

Leaf placed a hand on her head. "…You ran past me like a tornado."

Pikachu narrowed its eyes slightly. "Pika…"

Alan grinned. "I was just checking out the town." Pichu nodded enthusiastically. "Pichu!"

"…Are you a fairy or something else?" Leaf blinked. "What? No. I'm a Human girl."

"Huh." Alan circled her slowly, squinting. "No wings… okay…" He crouched slightly, peering behind her. "…No tail either?"

Before Leaf could react, Alan casually lifted the back of her skirt with his bo staff—just enough to peek.

Leaf yelped and spun around instantly, cheeks blazing red. "WHAT do you think you're doing?!" she demanded.

Alan lowered the staff, unfazed. "Just checking to see if you had a tail."

Leaf stared at him, stunned.

"…A tail?"

"Yeah," Alan said thoughtfully. "Maybe it just takes girls longer to grow theirs."

There was a beat. Then Leaf covered her mouth and laughed. "I'm sure it'll grow eventually," she said, playing along.

Alan nodded, satisfied. "That's what I figured."

Leaf shook her head, still smiling as she turned away. What a weird little boy, she thought—but not unkindly. Leaf looked him over. "…You're fast." Alan shrugged. "A little." Leaf crossed her arms, smiling slightly.

"I'm Leaf."

She gestured to her partner. "And this is Pikachu."

Pikachu perked up proudly. "Pika!"

Alan smiled back. "I'm Alan." He gestured to his side. "And this is Pichu."

"Pichu!"

For a brief moment— The air shifted. Leaf blinked. "…Huh?" She felt it. Something… unusual. Alan's presence wasn't normal.

There was a faint energy around him.

Like— A star… quietly glowing.

Pikachu noticed too, ears twitching. "Pika…"

Alan tilted his head. "What?"

Leaf shook it off. "…Nothing." But she couldn't ignore it. Alan looked around. "You new here?" Leaf nodded. "Just arrived."

Alan smiled. "Then I can show you around."

Pichu hopped excitedly. "Pichu!" Pikachu nodded. "Pika!"

Leaf smiled. "…Sure."

The bright plaza of Starlight Town buzzed with life as Alan stepped forward, hands casually behind his head.

"Well," he said with a grin, "welcome to Starlight Town." Leaf smiled slightly, adjusting her cap. "Not a bad welcome."

Pikachu and Pichu were already chatting happily nearby.

"Pika!"

"Pichu!"

Alan motioned forward. "Come on. I'll show you around." Leaf followed, curious. They passed a cozy bakery first, its windows filled with pastries that practically glowed in the sunlight.

The scent hit instantly.

Leaf stopped mid-step. "…Okay, hold on." Alan laughed. "Yeah, everyone does that the first time."

Inside, trays of:

🍰 cakes

🥐 pastries

🍞 fresh bread

were stacked neatly.

Pikachu pressed its face to the glass. "Pikaaaa…" Pichu copied it. "Pichu!"

Leaf laughed. "Yeah… we're definitely coming back here later." Next, Alan led her into a small mystical shop.

Floating orbs drifted lazily in the air, glowing softly.

Tiny enchanted trinkets lined the shelves.

Leaf looked around, fascinated. "…This place is real magic." Alan nodded. "Yep. Not the fake kind either."

A small charm flickered as they passed—reacting faintly to Alan's presence.

Leaf noticed. "…Huh."

They stepped into the arcade next. Lights flashed. Sounds of games filled the air. "Whoa…" Leaf said, impressed. "Didn't expect this here."

Alan smirked. "I'm pretty good at these."

Moments later— BEEP! BEEP! WIN!

Alan casually set a high score. Leaf raised an eyebrow. "…'Pretty good,' huh?" Alan shrugged. "Told you."

Pikachu cheered. "Pika!" Pichu jumped up and down. "Pichu!"

They continued walking through the streets:

🌼 Flower markets filled with color

🛍️ Small shops with handmade goods

🎶 Street performers playing cheerful music

Leaf took it all in. "…This town feels… different." Alan looked ahead. "Yeah."

He smiled slightly. "It's kinda special." As they walked, Leaf glanced at him again. That same feeling. That quiet, star-like energy. "…You've lived here long?" she asked. Alan nodded. "Yeah. My home's just outside town."

Leaf nodded slowly. "…Makes sense."

They stopped near the edge of town.

Alan turned to her. "Hey." Leaf looked up. "Yeah?" Alan scratched his cheek slightly. "Since it's my birthday… my mom's making a big meal."

Leaf blinked. "…Wait—today's your birthday?"

"Yeah," Alan said casually.

"I kinda forgot until earlier." Leaf smiled. "…That's actually impressive."

Pikachu perked up.

"Pika?!"

Alan continued— "You guys wanna come?" Pichu jumped excitedly.

"Pichu!!"

Leaf hesitated for just a second— Then smiled. "…Yeah. I'd like that." Pikachu nodded enthusiastically.

"Pika!"

Alan grinned. "Cool."

He turned and started walking. "Follow me."

The path shifted from town streets to a quieter, peaceful area. Trees lined the way. The sound of nature replaced the town's bustle.

Leaf looked around. "…It's really calm out here."

Alan nodded. "Yeah. It's nice." Pichu ran ahead. "Pichu!" Pikachu followed. "Pika!" Leaf walked beside Alan. "…Thanks. For showing me around."

Alan shrugged. "No problem."

The path opened into a peaceful estate surrounded by greenery, soft breezes, and the gentle sound of wind chimes.

Alan stopped at the entrance. "We're here." Leaf looked ahead, impressed. "…This is your home?"

Alan nodded. "Yep."

Pikachu tilted its head. "Pika…" Pichu ran ahead excitedly. "Pichu!"

As they stepped inside, warmth immediately wrapped around them—both from the cozy home and the rich aroma of food.

From the kitchen— "Alan?" Gine's voice called out. "We're back!" Alan walked in casually, Leaf following just behind him.

Gine turned— and paused.

Her eyes quickly took in the scene:

Alan.

Pichu.

…and a new guest.

Julie, standing beside her, smiled knowingly. Gine wiped her hands gently and stepped forward, her expression calm but welcoming. "So… this must be the friend you brought home." Alan nodded. "Yeah. This is Leaf. And her partner Pikachu."

Leaf straightened politely. "Nice to meet you."

Pikachu bowed its head slightly. "Pika."

Gine smiled softly. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Leaf." Julie stepped forward next, her warm presence immediately comforting.

"Well now, what a lovely guest to have on a special day."

Leaf blinked. "…Special day?"

Julie smiled. "Our Alan here turned ten today."

Leaf looked at him.

"…You didn't mention that."

Alan scratched his cheek. "…I forget things."

Pikachu facepalmed lightly. "Pika…"

Julie chuckled and gently placed a hand on Leaf's shoulder. "You're just in time. We've been preparing quite the meal."

Leaf smiled. "…Thank you for having me."

Gine nodded. "Any friend of Alan's is welcome here." For a brief moment— Gine's eyes lingered on Leaf.

She sensed something. Not dangerous… but aware.

She said nothing.

Soon— The table was filled.

An impressive spread:

🍚 steaming rice bowls

🍲 hearty vegetable stew

🥩 grilled meats cooked perfectly

🥟 dumplings fresh from the pot

🍰 sweet desserts prepared for later

Leaf's eyes widened. "…This is a lot." Julie smiled proudly. "Well, we had to account for his appetite."

She nodded toward Alan.

Alan sat down immediately. "Okay, I'm starving." Pichu hopped into place. "Pichu!" Pikachu sat beside Leaf, still staring at the food. "Pika…"

Gine gave a soft laugh. "Go ahead."

And just like that— Alan started eating.

Fast. Very fast.

Leaf blinked. "…Whoa." Pikachu blinked. "Pika?!" Pichu tried to keep up. "Pichu—pichu—!"

Julie laughed. "I told you."

Gine smiled, watching him fondly. "He burns energy quickly."

Leaf shook her head slightly, smiling. "…You weren't kidding." For a while— Everything was calm. Laughter filled the room, Plates were passed around, Stories were shared. Leaf relaxed, feeling at ease. "…This is nice."

Gine looked at her gently. "I'm glad you came."

Leaf nodded. "…Me too."

In the next room— Inside the wooden box— ✨ Pulse.

The White Crystal Star glowed brightly. Stronger than ever. Its light flickered across the walls— and for just a second… It reacted.

To Alan. To the energy around him. To something awakening.

The meal had ended, but the warmth lingered.

Empty plates rested on the table, and the afternoon sunlight streamed gently through the windows, casting soft golden light across the room.

Alan leaned back in his seat, completely satisfied. "…That was amazing."

Pichu flopped onto the table, full and happy. "Pichuu…"

Pikachu patted its belly. "Pika…"

Julie laughed softly. "I'd say that was a success." Gine smiled, watching her son fondly. After a while, Alan and the Pokémon wandered off toward the living room—Pichu chasing Pikachu playfully.

"Pichu!"

"Pika!"

Leaf remained at the table.

Julie poured tea into small cups.

🍵 Soft steam rose between them.

"Here you go, dear." Leaf accepted it. "Thank you." Gine sat across from her, calm and composed. For a moment— There was only silence.

Peaceful.

Leaf glanced toward the other room where Alan's laughter echoed faintly. "…He's… different."

Gine and Julie exchanged a small knowing look. Julie smiled gently. "Yes." Leaf looked back at them. "…Who is he, really?"

Gine rested her hands calmly on the table. "…Alan is our son." Leaf nodded. "…I figured that much."

Julie added softly— "But not by birth."

Leaf blinked. "…Adopted?" Gine nodded. "Yes." Her voice remained steady. "But… not in the usual way." The room felt quieter.

More serious. Julie leaned forward slightly. "He came to us… from the stars." Leaf froze. "…What?" Gine continued— "He didn't arrive as a baby." Leaf's eyes widened. "…Wait—" Julie finished gently— "He appeared as a ten-year-old boy."

Leaf stared at them. "…In a meteor."

Silence.

Leaf slowly set her tea down. "…You're serious." Gine nodded. "We are."

Gine's eyes softened slightly as she remembered. "The sky lit up that night…" Julie continued— "A falling star… brighter than anything we'd ever seen." Gine's voice lowered. "And when it landed…"

"…He was there."

Leaf's breath caught. "…Alan…"

Julie smiled faintly. "He didn't cry."

"He didn't panic."

"He just… looked at us."

Gine added softly— "As if he had been searching for us." Leaf looked toward the living room again.

Alan's laughter echoed faintly. "…And you just… took him in?"

Gine nodded without hesitation. "He needed a home." Julie smiled warmly. "And we needed him too."

Leaf smiled slightly. "…That makes sense." Leaf hesitated. "…You mentioned… his mother." Gine's expression softened again.

"…Marina."

Leaf nodded. "She's not from Earth, is she?"

Gine shook her head. "No."

Her voice carried quiet pride. "She's a princess."

Leaf blinked. "…A princess?"

Gine continued— "She comes from a world called Planet Homeworld." Leaf listened closely. "…That's where you're from too?"

Gine nodded. "Yes."

Julie added— "It's a place far beyond this world… filled with warriors and magic." Leaf leaned in slightly. "…What kind of warriors?" Gine's eyes sharpened slightly—not aggressive, but proud. "My people are called Saiyans." Leaf repeated softly— "…Saiyans."

Gine nodded. "A race of warriors." She paused. Then added— "All female."

Leaf blinked. "…All of them?"

"Yes."

Gine continued— "We are born with strength… trained to grow stronger… and guided by honor." Her tone was calm—but powerful. "We fight not just for strength… but for what we protect." Leaf glanced toward the living room again. "…So Alan…" Gine looked at her son from afar. "…Alan is special."

Julie added softly— "More than even he realizes." Gine nodded. "He's connected to something greater."

Leaf felt it again. That same feeling.

That quiet… star-like presence. "…Yeah."

She whispered. "I noticed."

Laughter echoed softly from the living room as Alan and the Pokémon played.

"Pichu! Pichu!"

"Pika!"

Leaf stood near the doorway, watching. There was something… comforting about it. Something real.

Alan turned back toward her. "Oh—right. You said I felt weird earlier." Leaf blinked. "…Yeah." Alan grinned slightly. "Wanna see why?" Before she could answer— He raised his hand. A faint glow formed in his palm.

At first— Soft. Then— ✨ Light gathered.

A small orb of shimmering energy formed, swirling like a tiny star.

Leaf's eyes widened. "…That's not Pokémon energy."

Pikachu stiffened slightly. "Pika…"

Alan flicked his wrist gently. The orb floated upward— Then split into tiny sparkles that danced through the air like fireflies.

Pichu chased them. "Pichu!!"

Alan laughed. "It's just magic."

Leaf stared. "…'Just' magic."

Alan shrugged. "I've been practicing." He stepped back slightly. "And I fight too." He shifted into a stance— Balanced. Controlled. Natural. Leaf immediately noticed. "…That's not beginner form."

Alan shook his head. "I trained myself… but also with my moms and my grandma."

He relaxed again. "I like training with them." His voice softened slightly. "…And just being with them."

Leaf glanced toward the kitchen where Gine and Julie were. "…You're really close to them."

Alan nodded. "Yeah." He smiled. "I call them by their real names sometimes."

Leaf blinked. "…Wait, really?"

"Yeah," Alan said casually. "Me and Marina… and Gine… we're kinda like best friends."

Leaf looked surprised. "…That's different." From behind them— "That's true." Gine stepped into the room, calm as ever.

Leaf turned. "You don't mind?" Gine smiled gently. "No." She looked at Alan. "Our bond isn't just parent and child." Her voice softened. "It's something deeper." Julie followed behind, nodding.

"He's family in every way that matters."

Leaf looked back at Gine. "…You said your name was Gine… but also Li Chun?"

Gine nodded. "Li Chun is my Earth name."

Julie smiled warmly. "I gave it to her when she came here." Leaf nodded. "…It fits."

Alan added proudly— "And I made her dress." Leaf blinked. "…Wait—you did?" Gine looked down at her outfit, smoothing it slightly.

"Yes."

A small, proud smile appeared. "He has good taste."

Alan grinned.

Leaf hesitated for a second. "…Okay, I have to ask."

Gine raised an eyebrow slightly. "Yes?" Leaf gestured a bit awkwardly. "…How are your legs so… big?"

Alan immediately snorted.

"Pfft—"

Pichu giggled. "Pichu!"

Gine remained completely calm. She crossed her arms slightly. "Training." Leaf blinked. "…That's it?" Gine nodded. "I trained with a friend of mine."

She paused. "…Her name is Chun-Li."

Leaf's eyes widened. "…Chun-Li?"

Gine gave a small nod. "She taught me discipline… balance… and how to strengthen my lower body."

She added calmly— "She does not skip leg day."

Alan laughed. "Yeah, she really doesn't." Gine stepped forward slightly. "Strength isn't just about power."

Her tone was steady. "It's about control… stability… and endurance."

Leaf nodded slowly. "…That makes sense."

She looked at Alan again. "…You really grew up around all this." Alan shrugged. "Pretty much."

Leaf looked between them— Alan. Gine. Julie. The Pokémon. The home. "…You guys are really close."

Julie smiled softly. "We are." Gine added— "And we always will be."

Alan smiled. "Yeah."

The living room buzzed softly with energy, but Alan's eyes had shifted—focused now.

"…Hey, Gine."

She looked at him. "Yes?"

Alan stepped forward, a spark of excitement in his voice. "Can we train?" A small smile formed on her lips.

"…You want to spar?"

Alan nodded. "Yeah."

Moments later— They stepped outside into the backyard.

A peaceful open space greeted them, with a traditional outdoor dojo—wooden flooring, training posts, and open air beneath the sky.

The breeze carried the scent of grass and earth. Leaf, Julie, Pikachu, and Pichu followed behind. Leaf crossed her arms, curious.

"…This I wanna see."

Pikachu nodded. "Pika."

Alan stepped onto the dojo floor. "So… will you teach me something new?"

Gine walked forward, calm and composed. "…Maybe."

Alan tilted his head. "Maybe?" Gine's eyes sharpened slightly. "I'll make you a deal." Alan grinned.

"Okay."

Gine's tail swayed gently behind her. "If you can defeat me…" She paused. "…or at least grab my tail…" Alan's eyes lit up. "…Then?"

"I'll teach you a new technique."

Leaf blinked. "…That sounds impossible."

Julie smiled knowingly. "Not for him." Gine stepped closer.

Then— She crouched down to Alan's level. Her voice lowered to a whisper in his ear. "…And there's something else." Alan's eyes widened slightly. "…Really?" He looked at her. "…Are you sure that's okay? With you… and Marina?"

Gine smiled softly. She gently leaned in— and kissed his cheek.

"Yes."

Her voice was warm. "This was both mine… and Marina's idea."

Alan blinked— Then smiled. "…Okay."

Gine stood back up, stepping away.

Alan moved to the opposite side.

The air shifted.

Calm— but charged.

Alan lowered into position— Feet grounded. Hands ready. Eyes focused.

Gine mirrored him— Perfect balance. Effortless posture. Complete control.

Leaf watched closely. "…This feels different."

Julie nodded. "They're serious now."

Pikachu's ears stood straight. "Pika…" Pichu held its breath. "Pichu…"

The wind passed through the dojo. Silent. Still. Then— Gine spoke calmly. "Come at me, Alan." Alan smirked slightly. "…Don't go easy on me." Gine's eyes gleamed. "I never do." The wind stilled.

The backyard dojo fell silent. Two figures stood across from each other— Mother and son.

Gine shifted slightly into her stance—low, balanced, her muscular and powerful legs firmly grounded, her tail swaying gently behind her like a counterweight.

Alan mirrored her. Focused. Ready. Leaf whispered from the side— "…Here it comes."

Julie folded her arms, calm but attentive. "Watch closely."

WHOOSH!

Alan moved first. A blur of motion— He dashed forward, striking fast.

Gine didn't move. Until— TAP.

She redirected his punch effortlessly. Alan spun—followed up with a kick— SWISH!

Gine leaned just enough to avoid it. Then— It escalated.

THWACK! WHAM! SWOOSH!

Alan launched a rapid series of strikes— Punches. Kicks. Sweeping movements. Gine responded just as quickly— Blocking. Redirecting. Countering.

Leaf's eyes widened. "…He's keeping up?!" Pikachu stared in shock. "Pika?!"

Alan pressed forward— More confident now. More controlled. He ducked low— Spun— CRACK! A clean strike toward Gine's side— She blocked it— but her eyes sharpened. "…Good."

Now Gine moved.

Fast.

WHOOSH!

She closed the distance instantly— A palm strike— Alan blocked. A kick— He jumped back.

A sweep— He flipped over it. Leaf leaned forward. "…No way…" Julie smiled slightly. "He's grown." The dojo floor echoed with movement— Alan darted left— Then right— Trying to break her rhythm.

Gine followed effortlessly— Predicting. Reading. Testing him.

Alan's eyes flicked— Her tail. Still swaying behind her. "…Got it." He feinted high— Then dropped low— Reaching— Gine's tail flicked— WHIP!

Alan barely dodged. "Whoa—!" Gine smirked slightly. "You'll have to be faster than that."

Alan grinned. "…Alright." He powered forward again— This time faster— Stronger— His movements sharper.

For a moment— They clashed evenly.

CLASH!

Their strikes met— Hand to hand— Energy pushing against energy. The air rippled slightly. Leaf felt it. "…That power again…"

Pikachu stepped back instinctively. "Pika…"

Gine looked at him closely— Not as an opponent. But as her son. Growing. Improving. Becoming stronger. "…You've gotten better." Alan smirked. "Told you." They broke apart— Sliding back into position.

The wind picked up again. Leaves rustled. The tension rose. This wasn't just sparring anymore— It was a test.

The air shifted.

Gine's stance lowered slightly. Subtle. But different.

Leaf immediately felt it. "…She's getting serious now." Julie nodded. "She's raising the difficulty."

WHOOSH!

Gine moved first this time. Faster than before. Alan barely reacted— THWACK!

He blocked—but slid back. "…Whoa." Pichu gasped. "Pichu!" Pikachu tensed. "Pika…"

Alan pushed forward again— Determined. Focused. Their movements blurred— CLASH! SWOOSH! THUD!

He adapted. Adjusted. Matched her rhythm again.

Leaf leaned forward. "…He's still keeping up…" Alan saw an opening— Just for a moment. He stepped in— CRACK!

His fist connected cleanly with Gine's cheek. The impact echoed lightly across the dojo. Everyone froze. "…He hit her," Leaf whispered. Gine's head turned slightly from the blow. Then— She smiled. "…Good."

Her tail moved— Fast.

WHIP!

"OW!" Alan stumbled back, clutching his side. "That really smarts!"

Gine straightened, calm but firm. "Well…" Her voice carried authority now. "Did you really think it was going to be easy to grab my tail?"

Alan winced. "…No…"

Gine continued— "…or that I wouldn't defend myself?" She stepped forward slightly. "Besides…" Her eyes sharpened. "Remember—your opponent won't wait around for you to make your first move." Alan listened. Breathing heavy. "That's why…" Her tone became firm. "…you can't afford to lower your guard." A pause. "Not even once."

Then— She stopped.

Alan wasn't moving. He stood there— Hands covering his eyes— Shaking. "…?" Gine blinked. "…Alan?"

A quiet sound escaped him. He was… sobbing.

Gine's expression immediately softened. "…Oh." Her thoughts flickered— Oops… I may have gone a little overboard.

She stepped closer quickly. "You okay, sweetie?" Her voice was gentle now. "Sorry… I didn't mean to be so rough with—"

Before she could finish— Alan moved.

Fast. A smirk replaced the tears. "Got you."

GRAB!

His hand wrapped firmly around her tail. Everyone froze. Leaf's eyes widened. "…No way."

Alan grinned. "Sorry, Mom!" He held on tight. "But hey—" His eyes gleamed. "You told me not to let my guard down, right?!"

Gine blinked once— Then slowly turned her head toward him.

"I win, right?" Alan asked. Silence. Then— Gine smiled. Warm. Proud. "Yes." She said softly. "You win."

Alan beamed. "…Yes!"

Suddenly— He lifted slightly off the ground. "…Wait—" Gine's tail had lifted him—still holding on. "Hey—!" Pichu burst out laughing. "Pichu!!" Pikachu chuckled. "Pika!"

Leaf smiled. "…Okay, that was clever." Julie nodded proudly. "He learned well."

Gine looked at him— Not as an opponent.

But as her son. "You listened."

Alan grinned. "…I did."

The laughter from the spar slowly faded into a calm silence.

Alan dropped back onto the dojo floor, still smiling from his victory. "…That was awesome." Pichu cheered. "Pichu!!"

Pikachu nodded. "Pika!"

Leaf crossed her arms, impressed. "…Okay, that trick was actually smart." Gine stepped forward, her expression warm but focused.

"You earned it."

Alan looked up. "…The technique?" Gine nodded. "Yes."

Julie smiled softly from the side. "Time for the real lesson." Gine motioned for Alan to stand. "Come here." Alan got up quickly, brushing himself off. "I'm ready." Gine stood in front of him. "Good."

Her tone shifted—calm, instructional.

"This isn't just about power."

She placed a hand gently over his chest. "Ki is life energy."

Alan listened carefully. "It flows through your body… constantly." She stepped back. "But most people only use it on the surface."

Leaf tilted her head. "…So there's more to it?"

Gine nodded. "Yes."

Gine raised her hand slowly. A soft aura began to form around her— Not explosive. Not wild. Smooth. Controlled.

Like a calm river.

"This technique is called…" She paused. "…Flow State."

Her energy shifted. Instead of bursting outward— It circulated.

Through her arms. Through her legs. Through her core.

Her movements became lighter. Sharper. Effortless. Leaf's eyes widened. "…It's not just power—it's control."

Julie nodded. "Exactly."

Gine looked at Alan. "You're strong." Alan nodded slightly. "But you waste energy."

"…Oh."

"This technique teaches you to flow your ki instead of forcing it."

She stepped closer. "Think of it like water."

Alan closed his eyes. "…Okay." He focused.

Slowly— A faint aura flickered around him. Unstable at first— Then steadier. Gine watched carefully. "Don't push it."

Alan adjusted. Breathed. Let it move naturally.

The energy smoothed out. Flowing. Circulating. His stance changed slightly— More balanced.

More grounded. Leaf blinked. "…He's doing it already?" Julie smiled. "He learns fast." Alan opened his eyes. "…I feel it." He moved— A quick step forward— Faster than before— But using less effort. "…Whoa."

Gine nodded. "Good." Her voice softened. "That's it." She placed a hand on his shoulder. "Don't just use your strength."

Her eyes met his. "Guide it."

Alan smiled. "…I like this." Pichu jumped excitedly. "Pichu!!"

Pikachu nodded. "Pika!"

Leaf smirked slightly. "…You're gonna be a problem later, aren't you?"

Alan grinned. "Maybe."

The dojo remained quiet. The air itself felt… different.

Alan stood in place, still feeling the smooth circulation of his ki—steady, controlled, alive. "…Flow State," he murmured. Gine watched him carefully. "Good. Now…" Her eyes sharpened slightly. "Let's take it one step further." Alan looked up. "…There's more?" Gine nodded. "You've learned to guide your ki." She stepped closer. "But here on Earth… there is another energy."

Leaf leaned in. "…Chi."

Gine nodded. "Yes." She raised her hand— A softer, more natural energy formed.

Gentler than ki. But deeply connected. "Chi flows through life itself… the earth, the air, all living things."

Julie added quietly— "It's what people here connect to without even realizing it."

Gine looked back at Alan. "If you can balance both…"

She paused. "…you can create something far greater."

Alan's eyes lit up. "…Together?" Gine nodded. "Together." Alan closed his eyes again. He felt his ki— Strong. Controlled.

Then— He reached outward. He felt the wind.

The ground beneath him. The quiet life around him.

"…Chi…"

At first— The energies clashed.

Unstable. Flickering.

Leaf tensed. "…That doesn't look safe." Gine remained calm. "Let him adjust."

Alan steadied his breathing.

Slowed his thoughts. Then— The two energies aligned.

✨ A new aura formed.

Not just ki. Not just chi.

But both— Flowing together. Smooth. Radiant. Alive.

Alan stepped forward— Light. Effortless. He moved— Faster than before— But quieter. More refined.

He stopped— And opened his eyes. "…I did it."

Leaf stared.

"…That's insane." Pikachu's ears stood up. "Pika?!" Pichu spun in excitement. "Pichu!!" Julie smiled warmly. "He combined them…" Gine looked at him— Proud. "You didn't just force it." She stepped closer. "You understood it." Alan grinned. "…Yeah." Then— Alan tilted his head slightly.

"…Hey."

Gine raised an eyebrow. "Yes?" Alan smirked. "…What about the other thing?"

Leaf blinked. "…Other thing?"

Alan crossed his arms slightly. "You said if I won…" He smiled. "…there was something else."

Gine paused— Then— She smiled.

Warm. Knowing.

Without warning— She stepped forward— And picked him up effortlessly.

"Hey—!" Alan laughed. Gine held him close, smiling. "Yes."

Her voice was gentle. "You did win."

She looked at him— Not as a fighter. Not as a student. But as her son. "And I keep my promises." Alan smiled back. "…Good."

Leaf watched quietly. "…They really are close."

Julie nodded. "More than most." Pikachu smiled. "Pika…" Pichu giggled. "Pichu!"

The air slowly settled after the training. Alan was still in Gine's arms, smiling, while the others watched with soft expressions.

Julie suddenly snapped her fingers lightly. "Oh!" Gine looked at her. "What is it?" Julie smiled. "His gift."

Gine blinked— "…Right." She looked down at Alan. "There's still something for you." Alan tilted his head. "…A gift?" Gine gently set him down. "Go to your grandma's room," she said with a small smile. "The gift is in there."

"There's something waiting for you there."

Alan's eyes lit up. "Really?!"

Pichu jumped excitedly. "Pichu!!" Julie chuckled. "Go on."

Alan dashed off toward the house. "Be right back!" Pichu followed close behind. "Pichu!"

As soon as he disappeared inside— Leaf turned to Gine. "…Okay." Gine raised an eyebrow. "Yes?"

Leaf crossed her arms slightly. "…What did you whisper to him earlier?"

Gine paused— Then— She giggled softly.
