Chapter 121 - Chapter 121

"I'm home!"

Ichigo Kurosaki had just returned from school, a bright smile on his face.

His mood was clearly much better than it had been the day before.

Masaki, who was busy cooking, heard her son's voice and turned toward the door with a smile.

"Welcome home, Ichigo. You look like you're in a good mood."

Ichigo grinned and walked into the kitchen, stopping beside Masaki.

"Mom, I've got good news. The dean of discipline didn't give me trouble today!"

Masaki looked at him in surprise.

"Really? That's wonderful. He didn't call you yellow-hair today?"

Ichigo nodded proudly.

"Mm. He finally stopped calling me yellow-hair today!"

Masaki asked curiously, "Come on, tell me. How did you get him to stop bothering you?"

Ichigo enthusiastically told her everything that had happened that day, from Chad challenging the dean after school to the dean's change in attitude at the end.

After hearing the whole story, Masaki smiled with relief.

"I see. Sounds like you had quite a full day. But remember, don't get too mischievous, okay?"

Ichigo nodded repeatedly.

"I know, Mom. I'll behave."

Masaki gently stroked Ichigo's head.

"That's good. Now go wash your hands and get ready for dinner."

Ichigo happily ran toward the bathroom, even humming a little tune under his breath.

Masaki watched her son's back, her heart filled with warmth and happiness.

At the dinner table, Ichigo and his family were eating happily together.

Then, as though he had suddenly remembered something, Ichigo put down his chopsticks and said, "Mom, I keep feeling like I've seen that dean of discipline somewhere before. But I just can't remember."

Hearing his son say that the school's dean of discipline felt familiar, Isshin Kurosaki chimed in.

"Karakura Town isn't that big. Maybe you met him when you were little."

Masaki's heart trembled as she listened to the father and son talk.

Could that dean of discipline be Captain Kazuma?

"Ichigo, what was that dean's name again?" she asked.

Ichigo slapped his forehead.

He had forgotten to ask the dean's name again.

"Mom, I forgot to ask."

"Then does he have any distinguishing features?"

"Features? Not really. He's just a plain-looking guy. He seems kind of lazy too."

Isshin listened thoughtfully to the conversation between mother and son, deciding that he would go meet this dean of discipline one day.

Could it really be someone familiar to them?

But in Karakura Town, the only old friends he had were Shinji Hirako, Kisuke Urahara, and the others. Could it be one of them?

...

Night fell, and the city streets were swallowed by darkness and silence.

Then, all of a sudden, a low roar shattered the quiet of the night.

The sound came from the empty air itself, as though some evil presence was awakening.

Isshin frowned, unease rising in his heart.

Recently, Hollows had been appearing in Karakura Town with clearly increasing frequency.

Worse still, every Hollow that appeared seemed stronger than the last.

This worried Isshin deeply, because every member of his family carried a high concentration of reishi.

To Hollows, they were as tempting as delicious food.

Isshin knew very well that he and his family were facing great danger.

As a Shinigami who had lost his powers, he could no longer protect them.

Meanwhile, the number of Shinigami stationed here by Soul Society was limited, making it difficult to respond to the growing number of Hollows.

For the sake of his family's safety, Isshin had even gone to his old friend Kisuke Urahara for help.

After all, Kisuke possessed many strange inventions and tools.

After some tinkering, Urahara had finally made several special protective charms for Isshin.

These charms could release a special barrier that would temporarily protect them from harm.

However, what Isshin worried about most was his wife, Masaki.

Several years ago, she had inexplicably lost her Quincy powers, becoming fragile and powerless.

Originally, Masaki had been the only person in the family who could fight Hollows, but now, the entire household had fallen into a helpless situation.

"Why aren't you asleep yet? Is something on your mind?"

Masaki felt Isshin tossing and turning beside her, so she asked softly and gently hugged him.

"Mm… Masaki, Hollows have been appearing more and more often recently, and they seem to be getting stronger. I'm worried that you and Ichigo might run into danger."

Isshin frowned, his voice full of concern.

"It'll be all right, dear. Didn't you already get us those protective charms Kisuke made? As long as we keep them with us, we should be fine."

Masaki comforted him and reached up to touch the charm hanging over her chest.

"I hope so. But I still can't relax. The Hollows have been acting stranger and stranger. It feels like they have some sort of purpose."

Isshin sighed and held Masaki tightly.

"Don't worry too much, Isshin. Maybe it's only a temporary phenomenon. Things might return to normal after a while."

Masaki gently patted Isshin's back, trying to help him relax.

"Mm… maybe you're right. But no matter what, I'll protect all of you."

Isshin's voice was firm.

The two held each other as they fell asleep, both silently praying that everything would remain safe.

In the middle of the night, a deafening crash suddenly erupted nearby, as if something had slammed into a building. Immediately afterward, a Hollow's roar rang out.

Both Isshin and Masaki were jolted awake by the sound.

"Masaki, there's a Hollow nearby."

After saying that, Isshin quickly got out of bed and looked out the window.

The empty street was silent.

Then the quiet was broken by the sound of intense fighting.

A Shinigami in a shihakushō was battling fiercely against two Hollows.

The loud crash earlier had come from one of the Hollows being cut down and sent flying into a building.

The unknown Shinigami deftly sidestepped a Hollow's attack, then quickly turned his blade and cut one of the Hollows in half.

However, the other Hollow seized the chance to pounce on him and bit down hard on his arm.

The Shinigami roared and used all his strength to throw the Hollow off, but the Hollow refused to give up and continued tearing at him madly.

Enduring the pain, the Shinigami swung the Zanpakutō in his hand with everything he had and slashed toward the Hollow's head.

With a pained howl, the Hollow turned to ash and disappeared without a trace.

After the battle ended, the Shinigami panted heavily in exhaustion.

He looked down at the deep bite marks on his arm and secretly rejoiced that he had finally dealt with those two troublesome enemies.

He turned around, preparing to leave.

Just then, an invisible Hollow quietly appeared behind him.

Its sharp claws mercilessly pierced through the unsuspecting Shinigami's body.

A shrill scream tore through the night sky, and that nameless Shinigami collapsed into a pool of blood.

After doing all this, the Hollow suddenly turned its head, its burning gaze locking onto the direction of the Kurosaki household.

It had keenly sensed the presence of high-density reishi.

That scent made it abnormally excited, as though it had discovered a delicious meal.

"Damn it! Masaki, hurry and take Ichigo and the girls somewhere to hide. The Hollow has locked onto us. Don't forget the protective charms!"

Isshin's pupils contracted slightly, unease surging through his chest. He knew that the Hollow's target was their family.

He had to protect them as quickly as possible.

Masaki immediately understood the urgency of the situation.

Without hesitation, she woke Ichigo, picked up Karin and Yuzu, and quickly hid inside a room, closing the door tightly behind her.

At the same time, she reminded the children to stay quiet and not make any sound.

However, the Hollow did not give them much time.

In the blink of an eye, it had already charged toward the Kurosaki home at astonishing speed, ready to enjoy this delicious meal.

Its figure moved like lightning, so fast it was difficult to track.

Isshin was burning with anxiety, but he did not retreat.

As the head of the family, he had a duty to protect them.

He gripped the protective charm in his hand, preparing to meet the Hollow's attack.

For his family's safety, he ran out of the house and into the open street.

He planned to draw the Hollow's attention to himself and keep his family safe.

"Mom, what is that monster outside?" Ichigo asked Masaki in shock.

"That's a Hollow. A being that eats humans."

"Why aren't the neighbors reacting?"

Masaki did not know how to explain it properly.

"Our family is a little special. We're the only ones who can see that thing. The neighbors can't see it, and it won't easily attack them."

The Hollow was getting closer and closer.

Isshin took a deep breath and rushed out.

He waved the protective charm and shouted loudly, trying to draw the Hollow's attention.

Sure enough, the Hollow was attracted by Isshin's actions and pounced straight at him.

As the Hollow's attack descended, a transparent barrier appeared around Isshin and blocked the strike.

Seeing its attack stopped, the Hollow began roaring and repeatedly struck the barrier in front of it.

"Damn it! I hope a Shinigami nearby notices what's happening here. Otherwise, this is going to be bad."

Isshin looked at the visible cracks appearing across the barrier, his heart filled with anxiety.

Crack!

The sound of the barrier shattering rang out.

At that critical moment, a Zanpakutō appeared in front of Isshin and blocked the Hollow's attack.

"Phew. I'm finally saved."

Isshin let out a breath of relief.

He raised his head and saw that the person before him was a female Shinigami.

When he clearly saw her face, his mouth opened so wide it looked as though he could swallow two eggs.

He never would have imagined that the one who saved him would be his wife, Masaki Kurosaki.

At that moment, Masaki was wearing a shihakushō and holding a Zanpakutō, her gaze fixed on the Hollow ahead.

"Masaki, you…"

Isshin's eyes widened, his face full of shock.

Not even in his dreams had he imagined that his wife would become a Shinigami!

Masaki turned her head and gave him a gentle smile.

"Are you all right, dear?"

Isshin felt his head buzzing, as if someone had struck him hard with a club.

He could not make sense of what was happening at all.

When had Masaki become a Shinigami?

Why had she never told him?

Just then, Masaki's gaze fell on the enormous Hollow, and a cold light flashed in her eyes.

"Dear, I won't let it hurt our family."

As she spoke, she raised the Zanpakutō in her hand.

Her figure flashed, rushing toward the Hollow like a bolt of lightning.

Sensing the powerful aura radiating from Masaki, the Hollow let out a furious roar.

It opened its bloody mouth wide and spat out a stream of black energy, trying to stop her advance.

But Masaki's movements were exceptionally nimble. She avoided the Hollow's attack with ease, her speed so fast it dazzled the eye.

After an intense exchange, Masaki finally found an opening and slashed toward the Hollow's neck.

The Hollow let out a shrill scream.

Its massive body slowly collapsed, then turned into ash and scattered into the air.

Masaki gently let out a breath, then turned and returned to Isshin's side.

Smiling, she said, "Dear, it's safe now."

Isshin stared blankly at Masaki, his heart filled with confusion.

He knew that if Masaki had not acted in time, their entire family might have been in mortal danger.

"Let's go home first. I'll explain everything to you slowly."

Masaki spoke gently.

She lightly took hold of the still-dazed Isshin and slowly walked back toward the house.

Isshin obediently followed her, his heart full of questions and confusion.

But he trusted that Masaki would give him a reasonable explanation.

After returning home, Masaki gently closed the door and said to Ichigo, "Ichigo, take your sisters to bed first. Your father and I have something to talk about."

Ichigo was also completely stunned.

He had personally seen his mother turn into a Shinigami just now.

The heroic figure of her holding a Zanpakutō had been deeply engraved into his mind.

His eyes widened, and he opened his mouth as if he wanted to ask something.

In the end, however, he closed it again and silently took his two little sisters into the bedroom.

After watching the children leave, Masaki turned to face Isshin.

Isshin sat quietly on the sofa, waiting for Masaki's explanation.

Masaki took a deep breath and slowly walked in front of Isshin.

She extended both hands and tightly held his.

Her eyes were filled with gentleness and apology as she softly said, "Actually, I became a Shinigami nine years ago, when I lost my Quincy powers. I don't know the exact reason either. Maybe the Shinigami power you poured into me back then had something to do with it. I'm sorry I kept it from you until now."

After hearing this, Isshin froze for a moment, then sank into silence.

A little while later, he suddenly laughed, and there was a trace of relief in that laughter.

"How could I blame you? Masaki, I'm actually very happy that you became a Shinigami. For us, this may not be a bad thing at all. It might even be a good thing. You're the whole family's bodyguard now."

"Still, Masaki, what do you plan to do from now on?" Isshin asked.

"I'll continue living as an ordinary human."

Masaki smiled, her gaze was firm and gentle, as though she had already made her decision.

"I don't want the children to feel uneasy. They need a stable family environment. Besides, this way, I can protect them better."

Isshin listened quietly. A trace of worry flashed through his eyes, but he still nodded.

"Mm. All right. As long as you're happy. But…" He paused, then continued, "You also have to protect yourself. After all, a Shinigami's work is still dangerous. If you run into anything dangerous, you have to tell me right away."

Masaki gently patted Isshin's hand and comforted him.

"I know. Don't worry. I'll be careful."

Her eyes were filled with warmth.

The two looked at each other and smiled, their eyes full of understanding and support.

At that moment, it was as though every worry melted away in that smile, leaving only happiness and warmth behind.

Masaki gently leaned against Isshin's shoulder, feeling his warmth.

Together, they looked at the scenery outside the window and enjoyed this quiet, beautiful moment.

Time seemed to stop then, leaving only their love flowing softly onward.
