The northern sector trees were direct: they grew upward, their branches to the sides, the simple logic of something seeking light.
The borderland ones grew at angles that no wind or slope could explain.
Kai noticed it ten meters after crossing the edge.
Mara noticed it at five.
"The ground too," Mara said.
Kai felt it — the resonance Qi responding at multiple points simultaneously. At dozens of points scattered across the territory as if the entire field were alive.
"How many points?" Lira said.
"I can't count them." Kai stared at the ground. "There are too many."
