Adeline teased him with a quick, playful kiss before pulling back and sitting up straight, a mischievous glint in her eyes.
"Uh—what was that?" Gideon murmured, his voice low. He cupped her face with both hands and turned her toward him.
Without hesitation, he closed the small distance between them and caught her lips, gently nibbling the lower one. The surprised gasp that escaped her only encouraged him. His grip softened, one hand sliding down to rest against the side of her neck as their mouths met again, deeper and hungrier this time.
Gideon's other hand drifted to her waist, gripping firmly as he pulled her onto his lap. The swing's chains creaked and rattled with the sudden shift in weight. They broke apart for a moment, both breathing heavily, foreheads nearly touching.
His fingers threaded through her hair while the hand at her waist slowly slid lower, settling on her hip and pulling her closer.
