"Honestly, I was worried that you might collapse. Your reaction isn't quite as dramatic as I expected."
Lilianne's voice trembled slightly as she spoke. Joshua finally caught his breath and slowly opened his mouth to respond.
"...If I’d collapsed, I wouldn’t have been able to see how you look."
"Hm, never mind. That's a better reaction than I thought."
Lilianne playfully batted her long eyelashes and flashed a smile.
Joshua couldn't tear his gaze away from her and took deep, steadying breaths.
Truth be told, he longed to whisk Lilianne away from this place, away from the masses of people who had once held her in their hearts, some of whom still did.
But he couldn't bring himself to voice those emotions, the bundle of envy that surged within him.
Instead, Joshua conveyed the utmost sincerity he could muster.
"You're beautiful."
