"Aiden Evans," Carlisle's voice broke through my reverie as I squeezed my eyes shut.
His tone had grown noticeably colder in just a moment.
'This must be what Chloe was talking about.'
I cautiously opened my eyes and turned my head. Aiden's golden eyes met mine, curved into crescents as if he'd been silently watching me all along.
'Huh? Why is he smiling? Did I do something wrong...? Oh, maybe it was because I had my shawl covering my face?'
I lowered the shawl and greeted him.
"Um, hi, Aiden."
‘He showed up here really fast for someone who made it sound like it would take months in his letters...’
"It’s an honor to be in your presence, Your Highness,” Aiden replied, averting his gaze from me and offering a slight bow to Carlisle, who returned a faint nod.
Apparently, they had kept in touch for some time. It was a working relationship out of necessity, from what Aiden had said.
‘Does he need to talk to Carlisle again today?’
