Chapter 4 - The Sorcerer's Challenge

*The Sorcerer's Challenge*

Kofi's words hung in the air like a dare, and Elara's smile grew even wider, like she was savoring a secret. "Very well, Kofi. The sorcerer predicted you'd say that. He has a challenge for you – a test of your power."

Akua's grip on Kofi's arm tightened. "Kofi, don't do it. It's a trap."

Kofi's eyes never left Elara's. "What's the challenge?"

Elara's eyes sparkled with mischief. "Meet the sorcerer at the ancient oak tree on the outskirts of the village at midnight. Come alone. If you can defeat him in a duel, he'll leave the village in peace."

Kofi snorted. "And if I lose?"

Elara's smile vanished, and her voice turned cold. "The village will be his to do with as he pleases. The lives of everyone here will be forfeit."

The weight of the challenge settled on Kofi's shoulders like a heavy cloak. He knew he had to do it – there was no other choice. "I'll be there," he said, his voice firm.

Elara nodded, turned, and vanished into the shadows, leaving Kofi and Akua staring at each other.

Akua's face was set in a determined expression. "I'm coming with you, Kofi."

Kofi shook his head. "No, Akua. He said—"

"I don't care what he said," Akua interrupted. "We're in this together, remember? Besides, you can't take on a sorcerer alone."

Kofi's eyes searched hers, and what he saw there gave him hope. Together, they could face anything – even a powerful sorcerer.

"Together, then," he said, grinning.

As they made their way back to Nana Yaa's chambers, Kofi's mind was racing with strategies and doubts. Could they really defeat the sorcerer? But with Akua by his side, he felt like he could take on the world.
