Chapter 5 - Chapter 5 – The Wolf Dreams

Elijah dreamed of silver.

He stood on a vast plain under a sky that held no stars—only an endless, soft radiance that seemed to come from everywhere and nowhere. The ground beneath his feet was not ground at all, but a surface that rippled like water when he stepped.

And in the distance, a wolf.

It was colossal—larger than any building Elijah had ever seen. Its fur was the color of moonlight, and behind it stretched a cascade of tails, too many to count, each one tipped with a point of silver light. The wolf lay on the plain, its eyes half‑closed, its breath slow and deep.

Elijah walked toward it. The closer he came, the more he felt its presence pressing against his mind—ancient, vast, and impossibly tired.

You came.

The voice was not sound, but understanding. It resonated in his bones.

"You're the prince," Elijah said.

I am what remains. The rest of me was taken. Sold. Drained. The wolf's eyes opened, and in them Elijah saw galaxies turning. I chose to give what was left to you. To survive. To hold the barrier.

"How do I wake you?"

You grow. You climb. You become strong enough to carry me fully. The wolf's tails stirred, a rustle like wind through grass. When the barrier screams, I will wake. Until then, I sleep. And I lend you what I can.

A pressure built behind Elijah's eyes. He felt something unlock—a door in his mind swinging open.

One tail. It is not much. But it will help you see.

Elijah woke gasping.

The cot. The safehouse. The hum of fluorescent lights. He sat up, his heart pounding, and immediately noticed the difference. The room was the same, but he could feel… more. A pulse beneath the floor, faint but present. Something alive in the walls. The touchstone on the nightstand was warm.

Solomon appeared in the doorway. "You felt it."

"What was that?"

"The prince gave you a tail. It's the first stage of unlocking his power." Solomon walked to the window and peered through the blinds. "What do you sense?"

Elijah closed his eyes. The pulse was everywhere now—a web of connections, some faint, some strong. He turned his head toward the east. "There's something out there. A few blocks away. Feels… cold."

"That's a breach. Small, but real." Solomon turned back to him. "You can sense them now. That's what a single tail gives you—awareness. We'll use it."

Before Elijah could respond, there was a knock at the safehouse door. Solomon tensed, then relaxed when a familiar voice called out.

"It's me. Seraphina. I brought food."

Solomon let her in. She carried a bag of takeout, her smile bright. "Thought you might be tired of whatever they're feeding you in here." She set the bag down and looked at Elijah. "You look better. More… alive."

"I feel better," Elijah said, but he was watching her. The wolf's awareness prickled at the edges of his perception. She felt… normal. Entirely human. No supernatural presence at all. And yet something about her made his skin prickle.

Careful, the prince's voice murmured, barely a whisper. Not all threats carry teeth.

Elijah shook off the thought. "Thanks for the food."

She sat with him while he ate, asking casual questions about his "recovery." He deflected, giving nothing away. When she left, she hugged him—long enough to feel genuine, but Elijah noticed her eyes lingering on the journals again.

After the door closed, Solomon said nothing. He just looked at Elijah with an expression that said, You see it too.

"She's up to something," Elijah said.

"Maybe. Or maybe you're learning to trust your instincts." Solomon picked up a journal. "Keep watching. Don't accuse without proof."

Elijah nodded, but in his chest, the wolf stirred with something that felt like agreement.

Easter Eggs

· 🌌 Silver plain dream – Similar to the "inner world" sequences in Tower of God (Baam's inner self) and Bleach (Ichigo's inner world).

· 🐺 Wolf with many tails – The visual is a blend of kitsune mythology and the "wolf inside" trope from Teen Wolf (the show).

· 🧠 Awareness ability – Comparable to "spider‑sense" in superhero fiction, but grounded in supernatural detection like the Supernatural characters' ability to sense demons.

· 🍲 Seraphina bringing food – A direct parallel to Malty in Shield Hero, who feigned kindness before her betrayal.

· ⚠️ The prince's warning – A soft foreshadowing that Elijah's instincts about Seraphina are correct.
