She felt a sudden chill crawling up her neck, like a shadowy hand pressing close to her. When she opened her eyes, the village was eerily silent—everywhere was still, and the air smelled of smoke and ash. Panic rose in her chest.
A young figure emerged from the shadows, wearing a black mask with sharp, menacing edges—the mark of a follower of the Demon King. In his hand was a long, black sword, pointing directly at her. His cold voice cut through the night:
"Any last words?"
Lyer's heart raced. He's going to kill me… But even in this moment, she felt a strange clarity. It's better than being helpless or forced.
With a calm, almost serene smile, she whispered, "Thank you…"
Before the attack could strike, a sudden flash of shadow moved between them. Theto appeared, swiftly disarming the boy with precise skill, dodging his strikes effortlessly. The village remained in ruins, but Lyer was unharmed.
Xana appeared through the gate, his eyes blazing with fury.
"Why would you endanger her like that?" he shouted.
Theto smirked, stepping back into the shadows. "I do what I must… for the reward."
Xana lunged, but Theto disappeared into the darkness, leaving Xana frustrated and powerless. Even as his anger burned, his followers held him back, unsure of what to do.
Later, Theto knelt before the Demon Lord, presenting the cursed item he had retrieved from the village. "My lord, the task is complete," he said, bowing his head under the weight of authority.
The Demon Lord examined the item. "You finished faster than I expected… and what is it that you desire as a reward?"
Theto's voice was firm, unwavering. "I want to become the next Demon King. I will change this world my own way."
The Lord's lips curled into a smile. "You will have a chance… but first, I will grant you access to one of my secret weapons."
A demon appeared, guiding Theto to a hidden chamber. Alone in the shadows, he suddenly sensed a familiar presence.
"Hey… can you see me?" a soft voice called.
Theto froze. His eyes widened. Is that… her?
Lyer stepped into view, her form glowing faintly in the dim light. "I'm not a figment. You can really see me."
Theto's lips curled into a skeptical, almost amused smile. That stupid girl… she's really here.
