Chapter 237 - Chapter 237: Black Steel and Broken Sunglasses

Los Angeles, California. On a bustling street, a Black man with his hands in his jacket pockets, dreadlocks on his head, sunglasses on his face, and earphones in his ears, looked quite trendy. He walked naturally down the street, blending perfectly with the surrounding crowd. Not far away on the street, a black motorcycle turned the corner.

The rider was wearing a black skin-tight riding suit, and the black visor on his helmet reflected the scorching, dazzling sun in the sky. The motorcycle moved with the traffic, gradually approaching the target. However, at this moment, Hong Fei suddenly turned his head to look at the pedestrians on both sides of the street.

Some were holding newspapers, some were holding mobile phones, some were drinking coffee, and some were kissing their lovers. There were quite a few disguised people gathered, and they kept glancing at the Black man with their peripheral vision in an inadvertent way. The Black man continued to walk forward as if he didn't notice, looking as if he was immersed in the music in his headphones.

But in reality, he was already alert. He was gradually moving toward an area with fewer pedestrians, and on the building next door, another Black woman had already set up a sniper rifle. Hong Fei knew that he had suddenly stumbled into a police-thief battle that was about to unfold. The Black man's name was Erik, a graduate of MIT, and later joined the Navy SEALs.

Because he acted like he was playing a game while massacring people in Afghanistan, he earned the nickname "Killmonger."

In addition, he was also a member of the Joint Special Operations Command. In short, a very smart and powerful elite soldier. However, in reality, he was from Wakanda and possessed the royal bloodline eligible to compete for the throne.

His father was N'Jobu, the brother of the current King of Wakanda, T'Chaka. Back then, during his undercover mission, N'Jobu fell in love with an American woman and gave birth to Erik. After many years abroad, N'Jobu changed his ideology. He longed to share Wakanda's technological knowledge with other African countries to change their poverty and oppressed status.

So, he participated in the planning and stole Vibranium from Wakanda, and his partner was the arms dealer Ulysses Klaue. Unfortunately, the partner beside N'Jobu at the time, James, was actually an undercover agent sent by Wakanda, whose real name was Zuri. So, after the incident was exposed, T'Chaka found N'Jobu and wanted to bring him back to Wakanda.

N'Jobu resisted arrest and a fight broke out, and in the end, T'Chaka accidentally killed him. To hide the truth of N'Jobu's death, Erik, who was still a child at the time, was also abandoned by Wakanda. The background was very simple; it was just a story of an orphan whose father was killed, working hard to temper himself, intending to take revenge one day.

The Black woman who set up the sniper rifle upstairs was Erik's girlfriend. After retiring, Erik and his girlfriend acted together, forming the internationally famous Bonnie and Clyde-style duo. At this moment, Erik contacted Ulysses Klaue for the first time in order to find the way back to Wakanda. Right now, the two of them should have been targeted by the government.

With a change of thought, Hong Fei pulled over and simply lay on the fuel tank to watch. Seeing that the other party was about to leave the crowd, the people hidden around gradually approached him and began to form a siege. Hong Fei shook his head; this was too straightforward, and they were very impatient.

Sure enough, after a few steps, Erik suddenly ran wildly, and at the same time, his hands came out of his pockets, each holding a pistol. Seeing this, the people hidden around did not hesitate and immediately gave up their disguise and gathered towards him. While running wildly, Erik observed his surroundings very calmly. After a brief silence, he raised his gun and fired.

Gunfire shattered the afternoon calm. A body crumpled to the pavement nearby. Screams erupted as pedestrians dropped into practiced crouches, hands shielding their heads as they scrambled for cover. The panicked crowd jostled against surrounding operatives—giving Erik the perfect opening to fight his retreat.

From the rooftops, a sniper rifle barked. The elevated position offered clean sightlines for methodical target elimination.

"CIA! Everyone down!"

An agent flashed his badge. The crowd's chaos intensified, though some actually flattened themselves against the pavement. This only made the remaining standing agents more conspicuous targets.

Erik's twin pistols spat rapid fire while the rooftop sniper picked off stragglers. A dozen CIA operatives found themselves pinned by just two attackers, forced to cower behind cover. Erik could've escaped then—but retreat never crossed his mind.

Empty magazines clattered to the ground as he sprinted to an abandoned sedan. The trunk flew open. He emerged wielding a chattering submachine gun, his grin widening with each burst. The agents' sidearms were useless now, their numerical advantage collapsing into disarray. Hong Fei's enhanced hearing caught desperate radio calls for reinforcements.

Disgust curled Master Hong's lip at their incompetence. He abandoned his motorcycle and strode forward. Erik's head snapped toward the movement—

Hong Fei exploded into motion. His sprint blurred into near-flight, pavement cracking under each superhuman stride. When Erik's gun barrel swung to meet him, the Eyes of Death activated. Bullets became slow-moving projectiles to dodge between as Hong Fei wove through the hail of lead unscathed. Three heartbeats brought him within striking distance.

A lightning kick sent Erik's weapon skittering across asphalt. Before the mercenary could react, Hong Fei pivoted into a roundhouse that lifted him clean off his feet. The kick's impact cratered the sedan's door panel behind him, sunglasses tumbling from Erik's face.

The mercenary braced against the wreckage, one hand clutching his sternum. Wet coughs racked his frame before he managed to glare up through bruised features.

"The hell are you supposed to be?"

Hong Fei ground the sunglasses to shards beneath his boot.

"Come quietly. Unless you'd prefer a cell."

Erik's gaze flickered past him to where CIA agents now peeked from cover. His breathing steadied as a smirk twisted his lips.

"That confident, huh?"

Hong Fei's head jerked sideways.

A yellow tracer round spun past his nose in dreamlike slow motion before reality snapped back—the bullet burying itself in the sedan's door with a metallic shriek. Erik was already moving.

A yellow bullet flew from behind his head. He tilted his head slightly, watching the projectile's spiral glide past his face before it punched through sheet metal. The car door sported a fresh, smoking crater. Erik didn't wait to admire the shot.

Although his gun had been knocked far away, his body was still a terrifying weapon of offense. He slammed his feet on the ground and soared into the air, his knees raised high, rushing towards Hong Fei's chin, while his hands swung his elbows down toward the top of Hong Fei's head. The movement was fast, the power was strong, and it was full of killing intent. However, this was of no use.

Hong Fei raised his leg high with even greater speed, then his long leg slashed down like an axe. His sole collided with Erik's knee, and the tremendous force instantly interrupted the opponent's upward momentum, also causing his movement in mid-air to suddenly deform. Hong Fei took advantage of the situation, stepped on his knee, flew up, and quickly kicked upward to hit Erik's chin. Crack!

The sound of bone fracture was exceptionally crisp. Hong Fei landed steadily after a nimble mid-air flip. Erik's head tilted back at a large angle, and then he slammed heavily onto the roof of the car, motionless. Stepping forward to check, the person was already unconscious. Bang! The gunshot rang out again, as the Black woman upstairs intended to force Hong Fei back.

Hong Fei waved his hand, and a metal ring flew off his arm, spinning at high speed towards the roof. In the blink of an eye, a splash of blood burst out upstairs, and the ring spun back. Reaching out to nudge the person's neck, he found that the head was dangling as if it were not connected to any bones.

The person wasn't dead yet, but it seemed like a fracture, and it was unknown if she would be paralyzed. That said, although this person was also a villain, she had no value to Hong Fei. He needed to take the heart-shaped herb and wear the Vibranium armor to become a "Killmonger" capable of fighting the Black Panther.

But if he had the heart-shaped herb and Vibranium armor, wouldn't it be better to give them to Frank? Maybe Frank wouldn't even care about them. Furthermore, his background was indeed a bit pitiful. It was right to want to avenge his father, but the personality and style he had developed over the years had already determined that he was simply not worth trusting.

Perhaps such a person only changes when they die, or perhaps death is his only relief.

"Sir, please step aside."

A highly discordant voice came from behind. Hong Fei turned his head and saw that the dozen or so CIA members had surrounded him. Although their pistols were not pointed at Hong Fei, they were still held tightly against their chests, ready to aim and shoot at any time.

Seeing Hong Fei turn around, the man who spoke twitched the corner of his eye slightly. Because Hong Fei was still wearing his motorcycle helmet, they had no way to distinguish Hong Fei's expression and psychology at this moment. The unknown always brings a different kind of fear.

"Sir, he is a heinous criminal, he was a soldier, he has killed many people, and now he is an international thief."

"So?"

"We are the CIA, he is suspected of endangering national security..."

"Is the CIA very powerful?"

The man couldn't help but frown. The CIA was certainly powerful, the famous Central Intelligence Agency, Watergate, Prism, wiretapping incidents, could they not be powerful? But none of that had anything to do with me.

Hong Fei: "You guys acted together and couldn't even take him down, and now what qualifications and face do you have to ask me for the person?"

"Sir!"

The man's tone rose, and he aimed his gun at Hong Fei: "Please do not interfere with our handling of the case, otherwise..."

Hong Fei drew his gun and fired twice, and the man knelt on the ground.

The next second, after the others reacted, they immediately opened fire on Hong Fei. The same dodging, different counterattacks. Their bullets could only miss, while Hong Fei's bullets could always accurately penetrate their knees or palms. After a series of rapid gunshots, a group of people lay on the ground, wailing continuously.

"A bunch of losers!"

Hong Fei tossed out a mocking remark before spinning on his heel. His hand shot out, grabbing Erik by the collar, dragging the man face-down across the pavement toward the motorcycle. Behind them, the previously vocal thug raised his weapon again, taking aim at Hong Fei's unprotected back. Without breaking stride or even glancing backward, Hong Fei raised his arm and fired blindly over his shoulder. The bullet found its mark, punching through the would-be assassin's skull with surgical precision.

He'd just dumped Erik onto the motorcycle's rear seat when an unwelcome voice cut through the air.

"Well well, looks like I've stumbled upon a kidnapping in progress. With bonus murder thrown in for good measure."

That insufferable, death-taunting tone needed no introduction. Hong Fei didn't bother turning as the familiar whine of repulsor engines announced the quinjet's arrival overhead, the aircraft slowing to a hover.

Turning at last, Hong Fei spread his hands in mock surrender.

"Fine. You got me."
