"An abnormal signal has been detected above you. You're being watched." Frank's warning crackled in Hong Fei's earpiece.
"A drone. Ignore it for now. Where are you?" Hong Fei asked while he ran.
"On the street to your left."
Hong Fei launched himself into the air, using the leap to look back. A black motorcycle weaved through traffic, moving fast. Most of the police were occupied in Harlem, so apart from the startled car owners honking their horns, no police cars bothered to check if he was speeding. That's very bad.
One must never imitate him.
His body swept over the street from tens of meters above. "I'll take out the drone before leaving the city. It's too dark outside. You keep monitoring the surrounding signals and stay hidden."
"Received. But how exactly do you plan to deal with that monster?"
"Don't worry, it's already nearing its end. Tell Number One and the others to go back first. There will be no shortage of aerial surveillance from now on, and they are too big of a target."
The wounds on the Abomination's body had healed somewhat, but his high-speed movement reopened the wounds. Blood spurted out with a sizzling sound, a truly horrifying sight. Even more serious was his eye socket; green blood had almost stained half his body.
Stepping onto the last building on the edge of the city, about fifteen meters above the ground, Hong Fei took a deep breath. He aimed at a large tree opposite him, and then repeated his signature move.
Draw the gun, ascend into the air, turn around, aim, fire. It was done in one swift motion.
Boom! The drone instantly exploded into a brilliant fireball. The image suddenly disappeared.
Hill handed the tablet back. After getting into the car, she said, "Continue to dispatch more drones, increase the flight altitude, and prepare the fighter jets for deployment."
Slinging the grenade launcher behind his back, Hong Fei turned his head and grabbed the tree trunk. The powerful inertia pressed down on his fingers at an angle.
Just as they were about to snap, Hong Fei released his hands and used the momentum to dash forward again. The forest shook, but his speed only increased. After rushing out of the city, Frank turned off the lights, pulled down the night-vision goggles on his helmet, twisted the throttle, and sped away. A moment later, a red dot appeared on the display on Frank's arm, and a rumbling sound came from the sky behind him. He knew that sound all too well.
Slowing, Frank turned on his headlights, trying to look like an ordinary vehicle. He shouted a warning, "Fighter jets are coming! Take cover!"
Hong Fei, of course, heard the anomaly as well. He watched the Abomination in front of him turn and leap into the river. Hong Fei dove in right after. The fighter jets screamed overhead, passing at low altitude. Even through the water, the rumble of their engines was deafening. The Abomination plunged deep, and Hong Fei followed close behind. The fighter jets began to circle, back and forth, right above them.
For a fighter jet, a few seconds in one direction gave the Abomination and Hong Fei plenty of time. Therefore, even though the jets didn't see where they went, as long as they hovered nearby, the Abomination and Hong Fei dared not surface.
Hong Fei silently fumed, How unsportsmanlike! The fighter jets were too fast. Even with an aim-lock cheat, the gunpowder-propelled grenade probably wouldn't catch up. Moreover, if he shot one down, more would swarm the sky. Then neither Hong Fei nor Frank would escape.
After diving more than thirty meters, the Abomination paddled with his huge palms, surging forward. The blood flowing from his body stained the water behind him. Hong Fei hung back, keeping his distance. On the ground, Frank looked at the dense red dots on the display on his arm. "More drones have arrived, at least twenty of them." Let them come, he thought.
Hong Fei couldn't speak, so he tapped the microphone lightly in response. For the moment, he could only hope the Abomination would be smart. Drifting downstream, the two swam over a thousand meters in the blink of an eye. The Abomination surfaced slowly. Hearing the jets fading, he poked his head out and took a deep breath. Diving back down, he swam forward frantically again. Hong Fei followed, trailing behind.
He could hear the sound of the fighter jets circling over the river getting further and further away.
Suddenly, two fighter jets flew over his head, one after the other, but failed to discover their targets dozens of meters beneath the river.
the twenty or so accompanying drones spread out like bait, bobbing up and down, with a hint of mockery in their provocation. Hong Fei completely ignored this.
He surfaced repeatedly for air, moving stealthily, a pattern that lasted over half an hour until the sound of fighter jets finally faded. However, the Abomination showed no hurry to go ashore. He drifted downstream, then abruptly turned right into a tributary.
Another hour passed. When the riverbanks showed no sign of human presence, only dense forest, he finally left the water.
He collapsed onto the ground. The bone armor on his chest rose and fell rapidly, his breathing labored. Wounds still oozed blood. Even a monster of such massive size couldn't endure such prolonged blood loss. He felt his strength fading, his mind growing hazy.
Hong Fei went ashore four hundred meters behind him, panting just as heavily. He felt like his whole body was about to fall apart.
But looking at the Abomination, he bit his tongue to rouse himself. He leaned against a large tree and kept watch. The Abomination's choice had been clever. Jumping into the river and diving deep to swim hard was enough to evade most search tools. Finding someone in the water was definitely not as simple as imagined. The Military and S.H.I.E.L.D. had to choose between land and river first before they could even begin a search.
The night was deep, the light dim. They had been in the river for nearly two hours. Hong Fei himself didn't know how far they had swum. If they wanted to conduct a containment search, the vast range of possible locations would be enough to make them give up. Plus, the tributary, combined with the jungle canopy overhead, made it difficult to reveal their figures, even with satellites. The choices the Military and S.H.I.E.L.D. had to make to catch them were far more numerous than the choices the Abomination and I had made.
Of course, if the Abomination's choice had been a mistake, I would have abandoned the target without hesitation and turned elsewhere, despite my heartache. For now, they were temporarily safe. A few minutes later, the Abomination rolled over and stood, muttering a few words before walking into the forest with heavy steps. I sighed silently. After waiting half a minute, I got up and followed. Opening the Eyes of Death, the footprints and aura in the forest clearly showed the direction the Abomination had taken.
Following all the way, a moment later, Hong Fei suddenly stopped.
He saw the Abomination's huge, hideous body lying motionless on the ground not far ahead. Hong Fei stood and observed for a long while, but there was no reaction.
Dead?
Hong Fei didn't believe it. Besides, if it had really died, then given the Abomination's status, at least one skill card should have dropped. After another while, Hong Fei was roughly convinced the Abomination had passed out. He held up the grenade launcher and slowly stepped forward to investigate.
The Bone Spikes on the Abomination's back were mostly broken, and hideous wounds covered his entire back. He kicked the Abomination to turn him over, only to see its eyes tightly closed and its limbs limp and powerless. The terrible wound on his left eye had already begun to scab over, and that entire bizarre face had lost most of its green, appearing incomparably pale. Though the Abomination's wounds were healing, the speed was extremely slow, and his chest only rose and fell very slightly after a long interval.
Hong Fei breathed a sigh of relief and sat down on the ground with a thud. The earpiece had already been severely waterlogged and rendered useless, so Hong Fei could only wait for Frank to find him by relying on the waterproof locator. At this moment, Hong Fei caught a glimpse of a white light shooting over from the horizon out of the corner of his eye. He instinctively opened the Eyes of Death, only to find that what was flying over was a glowing white card. Closing the Eyes of Death, the card flew straight in front of him.
The pattern on the front of the card was not a person, nor was it a monster, but a tank.
"Did I just hit a tank?" Hong Fei frowned. He turned the card over to read the back.
Active Skill Card: M1A2 SEP (Green)
"You can consume a large amount of energy to obtain a brand new M1A2SEP tank. Your energy is its ammunition."
"Holy shit!" Hong Fei almost shouted. He stared intently at this brand-new equipment card. If the timing hadn't been inappropriate, he would have really wanted to see what exactly this thing was right away. What kind of skill is this? This can actually be a skill?
