"Is that really what you think?" Frank asked, staring thoughtfully at the comment Hong Fei had just posted.
Hong Fei replied solemnly, "Of course. Entering the darkness is for the sake of better dispelling it. We are the same."
Frank nodded.
Hong Fei asked, "Has the search on the mountain been called off?"
"It's off. Those useless fools didn't even find the spot where we set out to sea," Frank said, his expression full of disdain. "Good. You did a beautiful job this time. Keep it up. Also, be careful when you go out lately; it's best not to go looking for trouble. I think someone is watching me."
Frank's eyes narrowed instantly. "What's going on?"
Hong Fei gave a faint smile. "Don't worry, it's just a bunch of guys with too much time on their hands. It's not a big deal."
Since the day before yesterday, someone had been staying in the building across the street twenty-four hours a day, doing nothing but watching him. The person had even come to the bookstore disguised as a customer. However, Hong Fei had lost all interest in the man completely after seeing that unfamiliar face. Beating up this kind of person wouldn't even drop a skill card. It wasn't worth it. Moreover, the person had arrived so late that they couldn't even catch a fresh trail. This stakeout was likely just a whim, rooted in the fact that he and Tony had been kidnapped together.
Hearing Hong Fei say this, Frank didn't ask further. However, he clearly wasn't going to give up his grand plan of striking at gangs because of it. "I'll be careful to stay hidden, but the Mafia and The Hand have started clashing recently. Such a good opportunity cannot be missed."
The search over the past month had been ineffective, and the public was complaining about the military and police running rampant in the streets every day. Under this pressure, the National Guard could only retreat to a few limited key areas, such as government buildings. As the military and police pulled back, the gangs emerged.
"In any case, it's better to be safe than sorry. Don't get caught in someone's scheme, or I'll have to go rescue you." Frank gave a cold snort and turned to leave haughtily.
Hong Fei continued reading the comments for a while, the smile on his face becoming increasingly inscrutable. After a long while, he put down his tablet and lay back on the sofa. He activated his Eyes of Death, feeling even more delighted as a giant dragon soared around him. In the building across the street, the Agent hidden behind the curtains yawned out of boredom, tears flowing uncontrollably as a result. Wiping the corners of his eyes, he sighed and looked at the camera, completely failing to understand why he had been sent to watch an ordinary person.
Based on what he knew, Hong Fei had basically never left the building since he'd been hired. What was there to watch about such a shut-in?
A beep sounded in his ear, and he instantly snapped to attention. "Any discoveries?"
"Reporting, Officer, none for now. The target hasn't left the building recently. Every day he just eats, sleeps, and plays games."
Hill's brow furrowed as she listened.
Keeping an eye on Hong Fei was Fury's order, but the New York branch had a lot of work. She had made a major discovery just as she started monitoring Tony, so the surveillance on Hong Fei had been delayed.
She naturally agreed with Fury's thinking. After all, it wouldn't have been difficult for the militants to put a bullet in Hong Fei when they abandoned him. But to suspect Hong Fei was involved because of that seemed a bit over-thought. The reason for this was all thanks to Hong Fei's incredibly clear past; everything was traceable, with no changes or suspicious points.
Because Master Hong had perfectly accepted Hong Fei's body and memories, he had also strictly followed his past lifestyle for a period before slowly making changes. For instance, things like traveling abroad or dabbling in adventure were things the old Hong Fei had done more than once.
After thinking for a moment, Hill said, "Come back tomorrow afternoon and give me a report."
"Yes, Officer!" The Agent's spirits lifted instantly. The next afternoon.
Out of the corner of his eye, Hong Fei noticed the curtains of the window in the opposite building were suddenly pulled open, and he shook his head with a laugh. Tony had unintentionally helped him out this time because, last night, someone had finally captured the full appearance of that Iron Man Armor and uploaded it to the internet.
In the video, the gold-and-red armor traversed the Middle East, displaying great power. It not only saved a group of civilians but also directly blew up the militants' weapons depot.
As if that weren't enough, someone else later captured footage of the armor entering Stark Tower. This was practically hard evidence. The problem was that no one initially thought there was a living person inside the armor. Instead, most guessed it was a new weapon developed by Tony Stark. An artificial intelligence combat robot. What a stupid name. So today's news was another massive explosion.
The doorbell rang. Seeing Number One at the door, Hong Fei immediately broke into a wide smile. "Boss, everything has been done according to your instructions.
"The manor now belongs to you; the registration for Gonggong Laboratory is complete, and Dr. Helen Cho has agreed to meet with you the day after tomorrow."
"Very good. Wait for me downstairs. I'll pack my things and be right there!"
Turning around, Hong Fei slowly paced through the room, picking out the items he needed. In the end, there was nothing but a few pieces of clothing and several bottles of prepared ointment. He didn't even fill a single suitcase.
Going downstairs, Mei said politely, "Boss, are you moving out?"
"That's right. From this moment on, this place is in your hands. Oh, and remember to tell Peter that I'll come see him once a week. Of course, you can also bring Peter over. Where I'm living this time is a bit far, so it wouldn't be safe for him to come alone."
Mei nodded slightly and watched Hong Fei get into the car. After a journey of about forty minutes, Hong Fei arrived at the large manor he had only seen in photos. At the entrance, Hong Fei took the initiative to get out of the car. "You go in first. I'll take a walk around."
The entire perimeter of the manor was walled with stone over three meters high. A small hut stood next to the iron gate, and inside, a straight road stretched all the way to the main building. The green grass on both sides was thick with flowers, and a hundred meters away were woodland and more.
Hong Fei walked a full circle along the walls. The small lake, forest, and other features he had seen in the photos appeared one by one.
Hong Fei wasn't thinking about how he would enjoy the pleasure of embracing nature here in the future. In his mind, there were only hidden posts, bunkers, traps, and underground bases.
The main building of the manor was located in a flat area at the center, with a building area of three thousand square meters, in a typical European architectural style. The area, less than two standard football fields, wasn't exactly luxurious, but the advantage of this place was that it didn't flatten the ground into a uniform plain. Instead, it incorporated various natural terrains, and the area outside the manor was densely forested, with no other residences on the entire hilltop.
Number One had already opened the door and was waiting. Hong Fei stepped inside, not attracted by the luxurious furniture or decoration, and went straight up to the top balcony. More than half of New York City was spread out before his eyes.
"All of you move over here. Prepare to renovate the underground space. Also, notify Number Four and Number Five to bring back all the people they've recruited."
