Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

Husk knocks on Alastor's door, asking "Can I have a word?" After getting the confirmation to come in, he opens the door…only to see the single most unexpected thing he's ever seen from Alastor.

The Radio Demon is lying on his bed…swinging his feet…and holding a glowing white Calla Lily with one hand, clearly having been staring at it a moment before. "Yes? What is it, Husker?"

Husker runs a paw through his fur, and hastily says "Know what? I just got my answer, night!" The cat demon quickly slams the door shut, resisting the urge to open it back up and check to see if Alastor really was just doing what he thinks he was doing, and heads to his room. But, gods, if he never sees anything that weird ever again, it'll be far too soon.

The last thing he wants to do is try to go through the mental gymnastics required for considering that the Radio Demon might be developing feelings for anything and anyone.

Alastor stares at the door for a moment after Husk slams it shut, then shakes his head before returning his attention to the flower that was literally made out of magic. He'll have to find somewhere to put it, maybe it'll be sustained by Calliope's magic? She is two doors down, hardly far away, so it's entirely possible.

Alastor quickly conjures a small vase to put the magical flower in, noticing the small amount of glowing pollen that's coming off it, and fills it with water - if nothing else, it'll be a good experiment.

Charlie and Vaggie make their way down to the kitchen, but as soon as the door opens they get hit with the smell of pancakes, sausages, eggs, jelly, toast...is Niffty making a five-course breakfast?

When they get inside, though, it's not Niffty but Calliope at the stove, with things floating all around her.

Charlie gasps in delight, having woken up thinking her Aunt's appearance was a dream, and Calli turns towards them saying "Morning! I wasn't sure what everyone wanted, so I made a bit of everything."

Angel Dust and Husk walk into the room, and Husk flatly asks "You call this a 'bit of everything?' I'm scared to see what you call a full-course meal, then." Even so, he's not complaining.

Angel nods, saying "This isn't a 'bit' - this is a full-on feast." And then he goes to grab a plate and pile it with waffles and layer whipped cream in between them.

Calli just waves towards the table, saying "Eat up. Charlie, you still like blueberry pancakes, right?"

Charlie squeals, saying "You remembered!!" Her aunt's blueberry pancakes were legendary, from what she remembers.

Calli gives Charlie a smile, though it doesn't quite reach her eyes, and says "Of course. I made sure to engrave everything about you into my mind, Chars."

"Aw," Angel says between mouthfuls of waffles, "how sweet. Almost as sweet as this whipped cream, did you make this?"

Calli just points to a pile of rinsed or soaking dishes.

Husk says "That's a yes…pass those eggs, please."

Sir Pentious goes for the sausages, and Vaggie takes one of the omelets before leaning against the counter with Charlie.

Alastor walks in, and stops dead in the doorway as he sees the veritable feast sitting on countertops and the table as everyone else finds a spot to eat. After a moment, and his nose quite literally twitching, he mutters "Now I wish I had more of a taste for regular food…" He can still eat food most people like…but he honestly prefers a fresh deer.

Which is a true shame since this looks and smells absolutely wonderful.

Calli waves him in, saying "Grab a plate, dig in. It won't go to waste. There's drinks on that counter, and coffee in the pot over there."

Everyone glances over, and sees several huge pitchers of orange juice, apple juice, milk, and lemonade, as well as ice water, and the biggest pot of coffee any of them have ever seen next to enough sugar and creamer that everyone could just drink that - how they missed that is another question altogether, though.

Charlie runs a hand through her hair, asking "How long were you up, Aunt Calli?"

Calli just shrugs, saying "I didn't check the time. Don't worry about it, I actually like cooking for people I care about." Especially when she gets to eat some of the stuff she cooks.

Alastor keeps the detail that it's been several hours to himself, he actually woke up when he sensed her magic fluctuate, then heard her get up and head downstairs - still, had he known she's so good at cooking and intended on making this much food…he might have saved a bit of room to have a plate of food. Or perhaps gone to join her, he can cook after all.

Angel Dust moans - loudly - at the first bite he takes of the omelet he gets, and asks "What's a guy gotta do to get you to stick around forever? Whatever it is, I can do it. And happily, at that."

Calli blinks, then says "Relax, I have no intention of going anywhere. Though, if you're offering yourself up, I'm afraid I'm gonna have to let you down gently."

Angel blinks in surprise - and everyone else in the room, for that matter - and asks "What now?"

Calli shrugs, flipping another pancake, and says "I'm not unobservant, Angel Dust. While I suppose I'm flattered by the offer, I'm not much into anything like that most of the time."

Angel asks "So, wait a minute, you're not-at-all into-"

Calli shrugs, cutting him off as she says "If I'm in the mood for it, then sure, I guess. But, unfortunately, I'm almost exclusively not in the mood. And, even if I were, I'm not looking for a one-night-stand. Sorry, try again on anyone else." There's also the detail that she has some pretty extensive issues about being vulnerable to people. It took her a solid ten years to be able to open up to Lucifer about her past, and even then he hadn't known everything. Some things just never came up, others she intentionally avoided...and that's talking. She has no wish to be at someone's mercy ever again, and has thankfully managed to avoid such a situation the last few thousand years.

Alastor's static warps for a moment, but he doesn't say anything - still, finally, somebody else gets it! He has feelings, desires, etc. - but only some of the time, in regards to things like sleeping with someone. He isn't some lust-driven maniac who can't go a single day without fucking someone, unlike some others.

Vaggie chuckles, shaking her head and saying "Sorry, Husk, looks like you don't get a break from Angel's constant flirting after all."

Husk groans, then downs a glass of milk like a shot of booze. "Great…"

Calli shrugs, saying "Sorry, not sorry. How's the eye, Vaggie?"

Charlie glances between Vaggie and Calli, asking "What about…wait, you asked if…Vaggie!!" Vaggie turns just as Charlie tackles her from the side, pushing her hair out of the way to see the new eyeball in the Fallen Angel's face. And then everyone covers their ears when Charlie lets out a squeal of absolute delight that should legitimately break the windows, just before tackling Calli from the side and swinging the slightly shorter woman around once more. "Ohthankyouthankyouthankyouyou'rethebestaunteverAuntCalli!"

Calli just hangs onto Charlie's shoulders until the younger woman stops spinning her around like mad, then says "Well, you know, I had a good start of what not to do…"

Angel frowns, asking "What's that mean? You had a good idea of what not to do?"

Calli's expression freezes for a moment, but she says "I didn't exactly have the best role models for how to parent when I was growing up. It was a long time ago, though, don't worry about it."

Hedwig promptly screeches from the perch she's standing on, as if she's disagreeing with something about that statement. Calli floats a plate of bacon over to Hedwig in an obvious bribe, which seems to work as the owl snatches up every piece on the plate.

Vaggie clears her throat, having been waiting for Charlie to settle, and says "Eye's good, thanks for asking. Better than last night for sure, but light still kinda hurts."

"That's normal, from what I know. Should be fine in a week or two on its own, but I can make a potion to speed things up if you want."

Alastor's static crackles, and he asks "May I ask, Ma Chère, where you learned to do all this? Heal people's bodies, craft potions, alter the world around you so effortlessly…"

Calli says "I'm immortal, been around a long time. The basics, I started learning at the age of eleven when I went to magic-school. But it wasn't until I was eighteen and my life settled down that I was able to go more in-depth with everything." And, she means everything - she studied everything she possibly could, from Runes to Creatures to Potions by herself, and quietly took the N.E.W.T.s for all the subjects one at a time through Gringotts...after settling the matter of her and her friends breaking into the bank and halfway destroying it via riding out on the back of a dragon, that is.

"Interesting. My mother taught me magic as well. We should compare notes sometime."

Calli grins, saying "Sounds like fun. Meet me in the library for lunch?"
