Chapter 6 - Reality

William was already on-site.

He didn't remember driving there.

Didn't remember parking.

But that didn't matter.

The buildings were finished.

Not half-framed. Not wrapped in plastic.

Complete.

Concrete set. Windows in place. Edges clean and sharp like they'd been there for years instead of weeks.

Everything looked right.

Better than right.

William stepped forward, boots hitting the pavement with a dull, flat sound that didn't echo the way it should have.

No workers.

No movement.

No wind catching loose material.

Just the site.

Waiting.

He reached into his bag and pulled out his tape measure without thinking.

Hooked it to the edge of the foundation.

Pulled.

Measured.

Twenty-six feet.

William nodded once.

Of course it was.

He shifted slightly and dropped the tape over the side, letting it fall into the lower level.

He waited.

The tape slid smoothly through his fingers.

Steady.

Controlled.

No impact.

William frowned slightly and let it run longer.

Still nothing.

He glanced at the counter.

26 ft.

The tape continued to fall.

He adjusted his grip, watching more carefully now.

26 ft.

It continued to fall

26 ft.

William leaned forward to see where it was falling

there was no bottom, at least not vertically but..

It felt like the bottom was horizontal.

A horizontal bottom

Thats not possible

............................................
