Chapter 11 - Shattered Symphony

The Vance Gallery Gala was a masterclass in artificial grace. Crystal chandeliers reflected off minimalist concrete walls, and the air smelled of champagne and unspoken judgment.

Julian entered with Elara on his arm. He wore a tuxedo that looked painted onto his lean frame. Elara, in her emerald silk and dramatic dark curls, was unrecognizable. She held her head high, performing the role Julian had assigned her: silent, powerful mystery.

The whispers began immediately. *Who is she? Is she the new collection? Where did he find her?*

Julian navigated the crowd with practiced ease, dismissing critics with a cold smile and charming investors with a simple nod. He never let go of Elara's arm.

"You're doing well," he murmured against her ear, his breath hot against her skin. "Keep them guessing."

But then, a voice cut through the hum of the crowd. It was sharp, smooth, and achingly familiar.

"Julian. I see you've found another tragic masterpiece."

Julian stopped dead. He turned to face Adrian Cole, his greatest rival in the art world. Adrian was charismatic, brilliant, and cruel. Beside him stood a man in a poorly fitted suit, his eyes scanning Elara with calculated intensity.

Elara's breath hitched. She knew that man. He was the shadow that had hunted her from the moment she ran.

"Adrian," Julian said, his voice dropping to a low growl. "I see your standards haven't improved."

"I heard a rumor, Julian," Adrian continued, stepping closer, his eyes locked on Elara. "That you were seen near the old bridge, searching for inspiration in the grime. And here you are, with this… vision. Tell me, does she play the violin, or just look beautiful on a canvas?"

The man beside Adrian smiled, a cold, predatory grimace. He pulled out a worn business card. "Investigator Reyes. We're looking for a missing girl. Looks a lot like your muse, Mr. Vance."

Julian stepped in front of Elara, breaking the unwritten code of gallery diplomacy. He grabbed Adrian's collar, causing a collective gasp. "If you ever come near her, Adrian, I will ruin you. And your little lapdog will find himself investigating his own disappearance."

Julian didn't wait for a reply. He pulled Elara through the stunned crowd, his mask of sanity completely shattered. He had protected her, but at what cost? He had just declared war on his rivals, and he had confirmed Reyes' suspicions.

The chase was no longer silent. The hunters had found their prey.
