High School DxD: The Dragon's Second Awakening
It was a quiet morning at the Hyoudou residence, until a noise was heard in the upstairs rooms. At that moment, the family's only teenager woke up abruptly; he found it strange to be alone, as he was used to being accompanied. In that instant, memories of the battle against Trihexa flooded back, up to the moment a blast from the beast was about to strike him.
"Ddraig, weren't we supposed to be in the middle of a battle? What happened to the girls?" Issei asked.
"Partner, I don't know what happened. That last attack should have hit us. The last thing I remember is a dimensional rift opening and us falling into it… but look at the date on the calendar," the dragon replied.
Issei turned his gaze to the calendar and noticed it showed a date from two months before he became a devil.
"Ddraig, what happened? Why are we in the past?"
"Partner, I don't know how, but let's look on the bright side. Now we can prepare ourselves better for when Trihexa is released again."
"So that means I'm just a normal human now!"
"Not exactly. When we traveled to this time, all your powers, body, and abilities fused with your past self…"
Issei couldn't believe what he was hearing.
"Ddraig, how is that even possible? Well, it's good news. Now I'll be able to help Rias without any problems, just like in my time."
"Yes, it is good news, but it will take about a month for your body to adapt to your power."
Just then, there was a knock on the door.
"Son, what's going on? I heard a noise," his mother said.
"Mom, it's nothing, I just had a nightmare and fell out of bed."
"Well son, come down for breakfast because the school year starts today."
"Yes mom, I'm coming."
The sound of Issei's mother heading downstairs echoed.
"Ddraig, let's take this opportunity to improve our skills and prepare for what's coming."
"Partner, sounds perfect to me, but first promise me you won't ruin my reputation with that 'Oppai Dragon' business."
"Fine, partner, it's a promise," Issei nodded with a smile.
The Hyoudou family sat at breakfast.
"Son, how are you feeling?" his father asked.
"Good, Dad. Mom, I need you to do me a favor."
"Yes, tell me son."
"I've decided to change my behavior lately, and I'd like you to get rid of my entire erotic collection."
The room went dead silent, and his father dropped the toast he was eating.
"Who are you?! What did you do to my son!?" the father exclaimed. "Mom, quick, we have to take him to the hospital, he's acting weird!"
"Dad, what are you talking about? I just want to improve myself and be able to get a girlfriend."
In that moment, a small sob was heard.
"Dear, did you hear what our son said?" his mother said, crying with joy.
"Yes, honey… our son has finally matured."
"Well son, I'll take care of what you asked today."
"Thanks, Mom," Issei replied, surprised by the reaction.
Later, Issei is seen arriving at Kuoh Academy. As he entered the courtyard, he began to feel the looks of contempt and hear the comments from the female students. Issei suspected this was what he'd have to endure. Suddenly, the girls' screams were heard; when he turned around, he froze at the sight of those causing the stir. There they were, the two women who had stolen his heart in the future: Rias Gremory and Akeno Himejima. He had to fight the urge to run and hug them. The best he could do was walk away.
That action did not go unnoticed by Rias Gremory, who found the look from that student she didn't know quite strange. Akeno, noticing Rias's interest, asked:
"Rias, what's wrong? Did someone catch your eye?"
"No, I just found the look that student gave us to be strange. It was a look of affection and longing. Akeno, do you know his name?"
"If I'm not mistaken, his name is Issei Hyoudou, he's a second-year. Why did he catch your attention?"
"I don't know, but his gaze felt... unusual."
At that moment, neither of them knew how their lives would change by getting involved with the Dragon Emperor.
Entering his classroom, Issei couldn't get the images of his loved ones out of his head.
"Partner, I know you miss them, but now you have to focus on improving," Ddraig reminded him.
"I know, but understand me: I went from being right by their side to them not even knowing who I am."
Suddenly, Issei felt a hand on his shoulder. Turning around, he saw the familiar faces of his friends, Matsuda and Motohama, who were grinning.
"Issei, how are you? You look very thoughtful," Matsuda said.
"Yeah, Issei, you're not thinking about spying on the Kendo girls by yourself, are you?" Motohama added.
Immediately, whispers of contempt from their female classmates could be heard. Issei thought it was time to clear his reputation and put an end to his perversions.
"Guys, I wasn't thinking about that, I was just remembering something from the past. From now on, I'm not spying anymore; I'm going to focus on my studies and my reputation."
The classroom fell into a deathly silence; no one expected the "Perverted Beast" to say those words.
"Who are you? You're not the Issei I know," Matsuda said.
"Who are you, you traitor!?" Motohama complained.
"Guys, what's wrong with you? I just want to focus on other things for now."
Just as his friends were about to respond, the teacher entered to start the classes. Throughout the day, Issei felt the stares of his classmates, who didn't believe what he had said that morning.
"Well, that's all for today, you may leave," the teacher concluded.
Issei took his backpack and left under everyone's gaze. As he walked toward the exit, he thought about how to start his training to adapt to his power faster. Then he heard his partner's voice.
"Partner, I sense Fallen Angel presences in the area. They must have already started eliminating Sacred Gear possessors nearby."
"Yes, I noticed too. For now, I just have to hide my presence, at least until I can use a bit of my power."
"Alright, partner. Have you chosen where to start your training?"
"Yes, tonight we head to the mountains."
Past midnight, the young brown-haired boy could be seen at the foot of the mountain.
"Very well, partner. To help you adapt faster, I'm going to place gravity seals on you while you climb the mountain. As you get used to them, I'll increase the weight."
"Ddraig, don't you think this is too fast? We just got back and my body and power are unstable."
"No complaining! If you want to improve, you will follow my instructions to the letter!" Ddraig laughed internally, as he was finally getting his revenge for the "Oppai Dragon" incident.
"Fine..." Issei accepted, defeated.
And so began the hell—I mean, the training—of Issei Hyoudou for the next two months.
