Chapter 314 - Post Nine Has No Rail

Post Nine began under the flour shed and ended outside the map.

Asa found the buried cable with a survey chain and one ministry measurement he no longer trusted.

One hundred ninety-seven meters west.

Miri remembered carrying bread half that distance before reaching the Low Rill market path.

"The cable did not end at empty scrub," she said.

Low Rill fired most of the foundation brick. Its kilns employed families who lived beside the clay pits and seasonal crews who slept in timber huts. Market days brought grain carts, mended boots, lamp glass, and a woman who sharpened wash-yard knives while telling rude stories about ministry officers.

Miri remembered her as Osa Bell.

Asa remembered a schoolmaster named Ren Tal who let chain workers sleep under the school awning when Post Eight tents flooded.

Neither name appeared on the boundary map.

The ministry map still showed no settlement.
