Chloe River is an average high school student. Late to class, barely passing, quiet enough to be ignored. Or at least, that's who he is during the day.
After school, Chloe hunts. Not criminals, not animals, but predators that move through the dark—creatures that don't belong, that attack and consume anything they come across. They're called The Nocturnals.
During a hunt gone wrong, Chloe was captured by an unknown organization—one that studies the Nocturnals instead of simply killing them. They didn't eliminate him. They used him.
When he woke up, something had changed.
Now, just before anything happens, his mind moves first. A thrown object, a sudden attack, a shifting body—he sees it all. Faint, transparent blue trajectories map out the future, paths only visible to him. Every movement, every impact, every outcome.
The ability makes him precise. Dangerous in ways that aren't obvious.
But the world he hunts in isn't staying the same. The Nocturnals are evolving. Some move unpredictably. Some don't follow the lines at all.
And somewhere in the dark, the people who changed him are still watching.
