Waiting for something to happen while laying down on a comfy bed and having as much food as you wanted wasn't half bad.
Arsheus had become something like my personal servant that gave me whatever I wanted as long as it was within reason, which was pretty much anything.
I was still pissed about the betrayal and blackmail, but withstanding their personality for a while beated going hungry outside, so I'd stopped my escape attempts for now.
I'd continue at a later date.
For now I was content just watching how the two of them left early in the morning and came back late at night. It gave me a good amount of time to rethink my life choices and play with Lilu.
It had already been two days since they'd taken me here and so far I had had no problems, even if Arsheus had blackmailed the innkeeper to let us in without paying, which was pretty sick.
Eating all day while doing nothing was the best. I could do anything I wanted without worring about what the demons or other people would say. It was the most free I had felt in a while, which wasn't saying much considering I had been kidnapped by a bunch of demons and now I had to do as they wanted. Life sucked sometimes, but on the other hand I got food, so more or less it was an even trade.
Today they'd gone out in the morning and they weren't back yet and I wasn't waiting for them awake to see when they were coming back, not at all.
It was already night, the moon shining up in the sky, when they decided to come back and annoy me for a while.
I thought they would go to their rooms like always to plan whatever they had going on at the moment, but instead they came up to my room, not even knocking on the door before it swung open, showing me a bleeding Rin and an exhausted Arsheus with black bags under his eyes.
Someone hadn't been sleeping well. I had slept perfectly fine. Hadn't even had dreams where everyone I loved betrayed me and killed me for a while. That was definitely a win.
I wanted to ignore them and do nothing at all, just stare at them as hard as I could, but the blood kept calling to me. Just what had happened?
I knew that I should've kept my mouth shut, but my curiosity won me over and I spoke.
" What happened?"
Rin plopped down on my bed, pushing me away and into the floor.
Rude.
" The guards caught us while on patrol"
I could guess what they were patrolling and honestly I wanted nothing to do with it.
Looking at them I could tell perfectly well how the guards had found them out. Their black hair and red eyes were visible even from afar. Anyone could tell they weren't ordinary angels.
They were so stupid they hadn't even taken anything with them to cover their faces or hair a little, like a hat or a hood.
I could tell them and make their lifes easier, but I honestly didn't feel like helping them or going out of my way for anything related to them at all.
" They can be a handful" My answer was just a non answer, something that wouldn't compromise me.
Arsheus snorted and laid down on the bed, sprawling all over it to his whole height. He was so tall that his feet all but dangled from the other side.
" What are you doing here?" I could understand it if they had come here to heal Rin's wounds, but they seemed to be fine already. Why were they staying here then? " Go to your own rooms"
They didn't listen to me as they sprawled even more all over my bed, messing it all up.
Fortunately I wasn't the only one mad at them. Lilu was also glaring at them and growling, showing them his teeth.
I was so proud of him.
" I need to tell you something" Arsheus's tone change as he sat upright, looking serious. " Tomorrow will be the last day before the festival"
I knew that much. What I didn't know is what that had to do with me.
" So?"
" So you're coming with us" I stared at Arsheus, dumbfounded. I wasn't going with them.
Before I could say what was on my mind, which went along the lines of fuck yourself Arsheus looked me in the eyes and my body stopped listening to me. Fuck! I had completely forgotten about that.
Now I remembered the reason why I had run away from them. I didn't want to be controlled.
" You'll be at your door by dawn, ready to go out and help us"
I couldn't do anything as the command engraved itself deep into my chest.
I felt something pulling at me to go to the door and wait there until dawn.
I had to give it my all to fight against that urge to do as he said and completely disregard whatever I wanted. It was awful. I couldn't even say I didn't want it.
" Good girl " When I said nothing, because I couldn't, not that I didn't want to, Arsheus smiled deviously as he got up and walked up to me, grabbing my chin.
Motherfucker.
Motherfucker.
I looked into his red eyes and something stirred within me. Handsome motherfucker. He was unjustly handsome. Someone needed to take him down a peg.
" Well, now that you've done what you wanted get out of here" I couldn't stop the redness in my checks when I spoke nor the throbbing in my pussy. I seriously had to reconsider my own standards. I knew I shouldn't do it, but for some reason it seemed like my body never got the memo.
" We'll go" I couldn't be feeling more relieved when I saw him getting up and get out of my room " but I'll let you know that if you try to betray us, then" I felt a sharp edge near my ribcage. I didn't need to turn to know Rin had gotten out of bed and had unsheathed his sword, which he was now threatening me with. " You'll regret it for sure"
" I won't"
Arsheus didn't look convinced as he snapped his fingers and beckoned Rin over to him and out of my room.
Once I was alone I fell down to the floor, where Lilu was looking at me with puppy eyes and red teeth.
What the fuck?
Seeing the blood I imagined the worst and panicked. Had they dared to hurt my friend? If so they were dead.
" Are you hurt?"
I grabbed his head and forced his jaws open. Fortunately he didn't seem to be hurt. It was more likely that he had hurt something and that something had bleed.
Looking down the trail of blood leaded from where I was to the door and then outside into the hallway.
" Good boy"
I petted Lilu some more as I smirked. I may not have been able to defend myself, but at least I knew of someone that was willing to protect me.
" Let's go eat some food"
It didn't take long between when I rung the bell they'd given me for when I wanted anything and a tray filled with meat and vegetables appeared.
I also didn't know how they got their meat, but as always I wasn't going to ask because deep down I already knew the answer. I had already caught Illiana once. I had been so repulsed I had wanted to puke and tattle, but as she had said there was nothing else to eat and it was for the good of everyone. That and no one would even believe me, so I kept my mouth shut and now even eating it wasn't a problem.
I wondered if Arsheus and Rin had eaten the meat and what they'd thought about it. I knew I should've told them, but right now I didn't feel like it. Maybe someday they didn't piss me off I'd tell them the truth, but for now I was too busy trying to resist the urge to stay up all night near the door waiting for Arsheus, as if having a bunch of spirits inside the room wasn't enough now they had to make me wait at the door like a dog.
Things were getting better by the second.
I laid on the bed and closed my eyes. When I opened them again I was by the door, ready and dressed. I didn't remember doing any of that.
My blood ran cold when I realized I hadn't even felt myself moving and dressing up. I hadn't even noticed it.
It was scary.
Through the pain that told me to stay put I managed to twist my head and look out the window. Outside I could see the sun beginning to rise.
It was dawn and I was at the door, ready and waiting, just like Arsheus had ordered me to. I felt like nothing more than a doll that had to obey his every order. I felt shitty as the door opened and I was faced with an smiling Arsheus and an angry Rin.
Why was he pissed now?
" Good girl" Arsheus's voice was dark and sensual as he regarded my clothes.
I had unconsciously chosen one of the dresses in the wardrobe. One that wouldn't make me stand out outside. Unfortunately for me that meant a low cut around the chest and showing some leg. I had apparently paired the outfit with a green shawl and a dainty hat, but I still could feel how much skin I was showing.
The sensation only increased when I felt Arsheus's eyes landing on my chest.
Despite my better judgement my blood lit on fire and my pussy throbbed. My nipples hardened as I imagined how I'd look like if I had his hand in between my tights.
Fuck!
I really had to stop doing this.
" I'm ready"
My voice snapped Arsheus out of whatever he was doing.
As he smiled at me I felt the pull and the urge to stay put and listen to him going away.
I could finally breathe.
" Good"
Was it my imagination or was Arsheus's voice deeper and huskier than before?
My gaze was finally pulled away from his face when Rin cleared his throat, glaring my way.
" We better get going"
Like that?
Both of them were wearing typical native clothes, which was fine. The problem laid with their bodies. They weren't even trying to hide the fact that they had black hair and red eyes. They were proudly showing to the world that they were demons. It was the worst choice of them all. It was no wonder the guards had caught them and tried to kill them. Even a child would know they weren't right. That was why I had spent my whole life covering my face.
I regarded them and then looked outside. Whatever. I was sure they were perfectly capable of taking care of themselves and if they weren't they should've done some research. Keeping them alive and out of trouble wasn't my job. I didn't even want to do it, so I just walked up to the hallway and closed the door behind me, leaving Lilu inside.
" What are we doing now?"
Rin scowled as he looked at me as if I was trash, not answering as he turned to leave through the main door.
Arsheus sighed and begun speaking as he lead me downstairs.
" We're going to check the perimeter. We have the guard's schedule almost down. Now we just need to finish the last details"
That was great, but what did they need me for?
" Why do you need me?"
Arsheus smiled maniacally as he looked at me.
" I need you to play the part of my lover"
What the fuck?
" The palace opens it's doors tomorrow to host an extravagant party for rich angels. It'll be easier to go in that way than to wait for an opportunity to sneak in"
I just stared at him. He couldn't possibly mean that we were going to pretend to be aristocrats while infiltrating the castle?
" Have you really thought this through?"
" Yes. It's the best plan"
I doubted that, specially since they didn't even know how to hide their looks.
We hadn't even taken a few steps outside the inn and everyone was already looking at us as if we were weirdos, which we were. All the passerby were looking at us.
Mother's shushed their children when they pointed at us and men and women alike turned to stare.
I pulled my hair under my hat, completely hidding it and closed my eyes slightly. The less different I looked the better.
Unlike me Arsheus and Rin didn't seem bothered by the stares at all as they kept walking, their stance never wavering as we walked closer and closer to the glass castle.
Up close it was even more impressive than from afar.
What had seemed like shiny glass from the distance was now revealed as mirrors that reflected the streets, lighting everything it touched. It was honestly amazing.
As I was staring at the castle Arsheus grabbed my hand and pulled me away from the main street and into secondary ones.
The smell hit me the moment we walked closer to an alley. It smelled like pee and death.
I gagged and covered my mouth.
The whole alley was covered in boxes and waste. I didn't even want to think about what the puddle I was stepping on was made of.
I just covered my nose and followed Arsheus as he stopped by a nearby door and opened it, leading me inside.
The inside of the house was very unlike the outside. It was clean and smelled nice. Everything was tidy with not a single item out of place. If I hadn't seen the alley it would've honestly being a nice place.
How had Arsheus gotten hold of it? And why were we living at an inn if he had this kind of house?
Looking with more attention at everything I noticed the house seemed to be inhabited by someone. There were dirty dishes in the sink and a chair had a blanket over it, as if someone had just gotten up from laying down.
" Please don't tell me you've stolen a house"
" What?" Rin looked at me with disdain, as if I was trash just by suggesting something like that. " No, we just found it"
Sure they did. Then where was the owner?
Arsheus must've read the question in my face because he sighed as he picked up the blanket and laid it down on the floor, taking the seat for himself.
" The owner was arrested"
Now that was an interesting piece of information. What had he or she done to end up in prison?
" Why?"
I watched as Arsheus gritted his teeth, clenching his fists.
" Let's just say they caught her"
His answer didn't do jack shit. He didn't even answer my question, but I shut up and pretended it did. Even if I told him his answer made no fucking sense Arsheus still wouldn't tell me the truth. It was better to just let it go.
" What are we doing here?"
Instead of speaking Arsheus got up and walked over to one of the windows overlooking the castle. From here we were so close that I could even make out the guard's faces as they patrolled the main gate, walking up and down it's length as the air reinforcements made sure no one flied anywhere near it.
" Is that the main gate?"
Arsheus nodded.
So that was the place he wanted us to walk into tomorrow.
I looked at the guard's weapons and at the sheer amount of them.
Yeah, not happening.
" Why do you even need me? Can't you just take him?" I pointed at Rin. I still didn't get why they needed me. Arsheus could just take Rin.
It'd be better for all of us if he did. I wouldn't have to risk my life and Arsheus wouldn't have to wonder if I was going to stab him in the back, which if I was given the circumstances and a pardon to end out of jail I might very well do.
" Because of this"
A piece of paper flew my way.
I managed to catch it in time, holding it up to my eyes to see what was written in it.
It was an invitation to the ball at the palace and it was addressed to a Mister and Miss Mali.
That was why they needed me. Rin didn't look like a girl.
Oh, well. I'd seen worse.
" Why don't you just crosdress?"
I asked my question as casually as I could, directing it at Rin. With his built it would be hard, but was doable and best of all it would mean I didn't have to be the one to do it.
Rin looked at me with a face of pure disgust.
Okay, that was a no.
" Why would we risk it like that?" Arsheus leaned over me, his lips a few inches away from me.
My heart jumped inside my chest as my skin lit on fire. I seriously had to control it. There was something wrong with me.
" We have you" Arsheus smiled and turned around, leaving me as a complete mess staring at him. " Besides, Rin will make sure we can escape alive"
Escape alive?
Just what was he planning to do?
The butterflies in my stomach died as dread settled over.
" What do you want to do there?"
Arsheus stopped looking at the window and turned to look at me.
All of the sudden both their gazes fell heavily on me.
" It's a secret "
My heart raced faster and fear settled over.
I didn't like this, not one bit. My gut was screaming at me to get out and run away and my gut was usually right. Just what was Arsheus getting me into?
