Aziel opened his emails the next day to see a withdrawal email sitting at the top of his inbox, forwarded by his secretary and marked with a priority flag that made it stand out so he wouldn't miss it in the jumble of new emails he received that morning. He saw the subject line before he opened it, the name catching his eye immediately.
It was Miss Freeman.
He clicked it and the message itself was brief and to the point. She thanked them for the opportunity, apologised for the short notice, and stated that she would be withdrawing her application. There was no explanation attached, no added detail, nothing that gave any insight into why she had made the decision. Just a neat ending, as if the process had never meant much to begin with.
