Chapter 3 - Chapter Three: Stripping Away Sorrow, the Descent of Asura

That hand, like the most filthy serpent, touched the last remaining pure land in Kane's heart.

boom!

An unprecedented surge of fury erupted from the depths of Kane's heart.

That was the only emotion he could still strongly perceive after losing the sense of pain and pleasure.

"Let her go..."

Kane stared intently at the spoiled young master, his teeth grinding together.

"Oh my, this is delicious anger."

The Taotie's sinister voice rang out at just the right moment, filled with excited trembling.

"Look at you, so pathetic. You can't even protect your own woman. That good-for-nothing young master isn't even a trainee knight, and you can only hide in the shadows like a bug."

"Shut up!" Kane roared inwardly.

"Anger won't solve anything, only strength can," Taotie coaxed patiently. "Look how sad that girl is crying. But can your sadness stop her from crying?"

"cannot."

"Then give me your 'sorrow'."

"Use your useless weakness to gain the power to tear everything apart. Crush that eyesore into mincemeat!"

Kane's body trembled violently.

sad?

He was saddened when his most beloved commander pierced his heart with a sword. He was saddened when he saw himself being impersonated and made a false hero. He was devastated when he saw Lilia being humiliated.

However, all this sorrow did nothing but torment him.

"good."

Kane closed his eyes and squeezed out a single word through clenched teeth.

"I... will switch!"

"The contract is complete."

Buzz—

This upheaval is more severe than any previous one.

The black iron breastplate attached to his chest surged wildly like boiling magma.

The dark red light instantly pierced through the tattered cloak.

"Click-click-click..."

A chilling sound of bones cracking rang out.

Sharp black bone spurs had sprung out from Kane's arms, shoulders, and back! His muscle fibers were brutally torn and reassembled, becoming as hard as steel.

[Type 2: Bone spur deformity]!

A feeling of being in control of everything washed over me.

In contrast.

The heavy sorrow in Kane's heart was instantly wiped away as if by an invisible hand.

He opened his eyes again.

Those once clear eyes had now become a lifeless abyss. There was no anger, no sorrow, only absolute rationality and coldness.

By this time, the funeral ceremony was nearing its end.

The crowd began to disperse.

Several trainee knights responsible for perimeter security were leaning against the wall, smoking, looking rather bored.

"Tsk, that girl named Lilia is really hot. Young master is in luck tonight," one of the knights said with a lewd grin.

"Say less, in case someone overhears..."

"Pfft!"

Before he could finish speaking...

A jet-black bone spike shot out from the shadows in an instant, piercing precisely through the throat of the speaking knight.

He didn't even have time to let out a scream before collapsing limply to the ground.

"Who goes there?!"

The remaining three apprentice knights were terrified and hurriedly drew their longswords.

However.

From the shadows, a black figure, like a demon, darted out like a ghost.

That's too fast!

It completely exceeded the trainee knight's reaction limit.

"Snap!"

Kane grabbed the second knight by the neck and twisted it sharply. The sound of the neck bones cracking was crisp and pleasant.

The third knight was terrified. Just as he was about to cry for help, a fist covered in bone spurs slammed into his chest.

Bang!

His sternum collapsed, and his internal organs shattered. The knight flew backward like a rag doll, crashing into the wall and falling silent.

The three trainee knights were instantly wiped out.

The whole process took less than five seconds.

Kane stood silently in the pool of blood, shaking the blood off his hands.

Without feeling pain or sorrow, he acted without the slightest hesitation.

"Not bad, not bad at all. This is how you should be." Taotie sighed with satisfaction.

Kane remained silent.

He crouched down and began searching through the body.

Soon, he pulled a secret letter with a sealing wax mark from the first knight's pocket.

The envelope was printed with a strange, dark gold sun emblem.

Kane frowned slightly.

This is not the emblem of the Knights of Light, this is...

Twilight Inquisition!

The most mysterious and brutal institution of violence within the Vatican.

Why are there people from the Inquisition around Wright? This is just a regular "monster pacification" mission, how could it involve such a high-level force?

Could it be that Wright betrayed him for more than just claiming military merit?

"It seems your little mentor is hiding a big secret," Taotie said jokingly.

Kane tucked the secret letter into his pocket.

He is not yet capable of directly confronting Wright, let alone the Tribunal.

He must become stronger.

More sacrifices were made.

Kane glanced deeply at Lilia in the distance, then turned and disappeared into the darkness.

I'll be back. Soon.

Shortly after he left.

Two figures shrouded in gray robes appeared at the alley entrance like ghosts.

They looked at the three corpses on the ground, especially the knight whose throat had been pierced, and a look of solemnity flashed in their eyes under their hoods.

"A fatal blow; the wound shows strong signs of corrosion and alteration at the edges," one of them said in a low, hoarse voice.

"It wasn't done by monsters," the other said coldly. "It was by heretics."

"Chase."

Two shadow assassins, like a persistent leech, silently pursued the direction where Kane had disappeared.
