I tried to look away, but I could not do it fast enough. Because suddenly, my eyes felt heavy. And before I could stop it, that tight feeling in my chest rose again.
Gianna's expression changed, and without saying anything at first, she leaned forward and pulled me into a hug. It caught me off guard, but I did not pull away.
I just stayed there. Her arms wrapped around me tightly, it was warm and comforting, and for a moment, I allowed myself to relax into it, even though my mind was still restless.
"It is okay," she said softly.
Her voice was calm now, nothing like the teasing tone from earlier. I swallowed lightly, blinking back the slight sting in my eyes.
She pulled back just enough to look at me properly.
"My brother may be a mafia boss," she continued, her voice thoughtful, "and he may be cold and ruthless most of the time, but he has a pure heart."
I looked at her, and she looked so serious.
