The moment the door to my study shut behind us, the silence settled in like something heavy and deliberate, the kind that made people remember exactly where they stood.
I did not sit immediately.
Instead, I walked past the desk slowly, my hands resting briefly on the polished wood as I stared at nothing in particular, letting the weight of the past hour settle into something colder, something controlled.
Behind me, the doctor stood still. I could hear it in the way he breathed, careful, measured, like he was afraid even that might offend me.
"Good."
He understood. I turned slightly, not fully facing him yet, and spoke in a calm tone that carried far more weight than raised voices ever could.
"You will not allow a single day to pass without checking on her."
He straightened instantly.
