Chapter 44 - Ch 44: Sunshine villa

The city lights slipped past the windows quietly while the car moved through the evening roads. Mira had fallen asleep on the way back to the mansion. Leon looked at her for a moment. Then he slowly moved closer, lending his shoulder.

Even in sleep, she moved toward him naturally, settling comfortably against him. A small smile appeared on his lips.

Over the past few days, she had begun relying on him instinctively. And Leon made sure nothing disturbed that feeling. Even the faint sage scent lingering on his clothes had been chosen carefully; soft, calming, something she subconsciously relaxed around.

"Mira…" He gently woke her once the car stopped.

She blinked sleepily before stepping outside. Then froze.

"This…" Leon intertwined his fingers with hers and pointed toward the massive white mansion standing before them, glowing under the evening lights.

"…is our home."

Mira stared up at it, stunned. "It's so… huge…"

Her eyes sparkled with amazement. But then her expression shifted slightly.

"…But I don't feel familiar with this place at all." She frowned lightly.

"Hmmm… novels are lying."

The word 'novels'  instantly became another sore spot for Leon.

"Mira…" he said smoothly, tightening his hold on her hand just a little, "we were staying in another villa before."

A pause.

"But after your accident…" His expression dimmed slightly.

"I don't want to go back there." He lowered his gaze for a second.

"I keep getting nightmares."

Mira's expression softened immediately.

"So I recently bought this place," he continued, looking at her again with a faint smile. "It's closer to the office too."

Another small squeeze of her hand.

"So I can come back to you faster."

"Perks of being rich," she teased lightly, tapping his shoulder.

Leon smiled. Completely gone for her.

"Come," he said. "I'll show you around." A hint of excitement slipped into his voice.

"I designed most of the interiors myself." Then he leaned slightly closer. "And there's a huge surprise waiting inside." He practically pulled her in.

The mansion glowed warmly from within. Elegant white interiors, soft lighting, large windows. Every corner carried an oddly personal touch. Their bedroom. A wardrobe entirely prepared for her. Matching couple-themed decorations subtly placed everywhere. Even their slippers waiting side by side near the bed. Mira noticed all of it slowly. And Leon noticed her noticing. Then he guided her upstairs. Past the second floor. To the third.

Leon stopped dramatically before opening the doors.

"Tada…"

The moment the doors opened... Rows upon rows of books appeared before her. An entire floor transformed into a library. Comfortable reading corners, soft lamps, ladders against towering shelves. A quiet paradise built entirely around books... Built entirely for her.

Leon looked at her immediately after revealing it. Wanting to see excitement in her eyes.

"Huh…" Mira blinked in surprise.

"A library…" She looked around slowly. Clearly impressed. But not overwhelmed. Not the way he expected.

"I never thought you were such a huge book lover," she admitted honestly.

Leon's smile faltered slightly.

"Huh… what about you?"

She tilted her head.

"I guess… I didn't like books much before?"

"Hmmm…" Leon nodded slowly.

But something uneasy crept into his chest.

Because the Mira he knew—

The woman who used to lose herself in books for hours…

The woman he built this entire floor for... Didn't exist right now.

And for the first time since her memory loss—

Leon realized something terrifying.

This new Mira… Was becoming someone else entirely.
