Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: 'Hooligan' the Know-It-All

A man wearing a violet suit walked over, his green hair styled into a messy pompadour, and he wore a pair of round, orange sunglasses.

"You can just call me 'Hooligan'." The man then introduced himself.

Jean still had some impression of this person; he was the only character in "Akudama Drive" who could be said to have had character growth, though at his core, he remained a sleazy 'Hooligan'.

Although she knew clearly why he had approached her, in order to learn more information, Jean still spoke to him: "I am Jean. Please take care of me, Mr. 'Hooligan'."

"Oh! Leave it to me, sister!" Hooligan gave Jean a thumbs up, making a slightly comical gesture. However, this also revealed the silver chains on his wrists—something that had not appeared in the anime.

But the term "sister" really gave her a headache. Just as Jean was about to correct him, a burly man in the distance suddenly let out a roar.

"I can't take it anymore! Why is it that we are fighting for our lives every day, while you so-called superior people can directly obtain the best resources!"

Hooligan, who was by her side, leaned into Jean's ear and explained: "This guy should be a Reincarnator from the Reincarnation Space. Guys who put all their stats into strength are mostly simple-minded and can't handle being wronged. Plus, those who can come to run external trials are the best among the Reincarnators, so the gap is just too big."

Jean nodded as well. Indeed, just now, she felt that the voice clearly placed participants like herself and the Reincarnators from the Reincarnation Space on two different levels, even for a complete newcomer like herself.

Then, the burly man wasn't satisfied with just shouting; he grabbed a seemingly weak youth nearby, and the youth was so scared he was trembling all over.

"Oh? I suddenly remembered. The rules say we can't kill you superior people during a mission, but we aren't in a mission right now!"

Hearing the burly man's words, the youth hurriedly shouted: "Don't kill me, ah! I beg you, don't kill me!"

His reaction clearly triggered the burly man's sadistic desires. He just kept shaking the youth by his collar, while the youth screamed even louder.

"I beg you, don't kill me!"

However, play is play, and the half-hour time limit was about to expire. He still intended to kill a few more people, so he chopped a palm toward the youth's head.

But the palm, which could easily shatter rock and bend steel, could not advance an inch on the youth's head.

"Ah! Don't kill me!" The youth was still wailing.

As if not believing it, the burly man chopped several more times, but the youth didn't even sway, just continuing to scream and beg for mercy on his own.

By now, the burly man finally realized something was wrong and took a step back, but the youth stepped forward, wrapped his hands around the burly man's head, even patted his cold-sweat-covered cheeks, and continued to shout in his ear: "I beg you! Don't kill me!"

"No, don't." This time it was the burly man's turn to start feeling fear.

However, seeing the burly man's reaction, the youth suddenly seemed to feel bored, and then directly used his hands to rip the burly man's head off.

As for the blood gushing like a pillar, and even spraying onto the ceiling, that is not worth mentioning; only to see the youth holding the head, which still had a look of terror on its face, in his hands, and then kicking it away with a big kick.

"Geez, if you can't do something, don't talk nonsense." Then he walked back to his previous position, leaving behind a headless corpse in place, spraying blood.

The scene was too shocking, and the plot twist was too fast, causing Jean to not quite recover her senses. Hooligan, who was by her side, was also drenched in cold sweat, his body trembling uncontrollably.

However, he still introduced to Jean in a trembling tone: "This person might have been recommended by the Saint Beast King. The Saint Beast King is someone who advocates that extreme madness can bring extreme power, so he often throws some lunatics over. But because they are too crazy, they often die not long after, so he changes to another person to participate."

"Uh, isn't that just a consumable?" Jean retorted.

"Survival of the fittest, I guess. After all, he is a Beast King. But I've met the Saint Beast King once; he himself is a quite generous uncle."

At this moment, a person covered in golden light, gentle and elegant, stood out.

"Since there are many new friends this time, let us introduce ourselves and the 'Guardian' who recommended us to come."

However, from appearance to voice, this person was too androgynous; Jean could not tell its gender at all.

"Let's start with me first. I am Anemoi; you can call me Ane. I am from the Golden Clan."

After the self-introduction, Ane looked at Milim, who was watching the excitement on the side.

"I am Milim. My friend Rimuru recommended me to come."

With a second self-introduction, others also became active. After all, gaining a little information is better than none, and many people were even here specifically to socialize.

However, most of these people gave standard self-introductions, introducing people or Guardians as such-and-such organization, or so-and-so; they were all names she hadn't heard of. Although the reaction on the scene was very lukewarm, Jean still tried hard to remember them.

Next, it was the turn of the youth from earlier: "I cannot tell you my name. My recommender is the Saint Beast King."

Just as Hooligan said, it was indeed recommended by the Saint Beast King. She had thought Hooligan was still the type to talk nonsense, but he actually had credibility.

Next was someone covered in a black robe, but a pair of dazzling white wings on the back formed a sharp contrast, making Jean always think she saw a keyhole.

"From the Divine Court." There was only this short sentence, but the voice was a clear and pleasant female voice. It was just a pity that she couldn't see her appearance.

However, the people around started discussing.

Jean looked suspiciously at Hooligan, who was acting as the know-it-all on the side.

"The Divine Court is just a lower-middle-tier super-world organization, or rather, a race. This race had problems in the early years, so it cannot naturally conceive offspring. As a substitute, it uses the purified souls of believers to create new clansmen, and because of this, it has expanded its faith everywhere and has had conflicts with many existences. In addition, Divine Court is a name specifically chosen to spread faith; things like the Bright Divine Court, Holy Light Divine Court, and Eternal Divine Court are all them."

Jean nodded, looked around, and found that only she and Hooligan had not introduced themselves yet.

"Oh, my codename is 'Hooligan', and my Guardian is the god of death, Wenga."

It was also a very short introduction, but the name Wenga always seemed to have been heard somewhere. However, before she could think about it, it was finally the turn of the last one, Jean.

Taking a step forward, she puffed out her chest and said to everyone: "I am Jean. My Guardian is 'D'."

After the words fell, there was no reaction from the audience at all. Instead, it was silent, so quiet that a pin drop could be heard; one couldn't even hear breathing sounds.

In her confusion, Jean subconsciously moved a small step, and as a result, the vast majority of people around her, even the youth who had just killed someone in public, followed and took a step back.

Looking around, many people even took the initiative to avoid her gaze, just like elementary school students afraid of being caught in school bullying.

— — Waiting Space Mini-Theater — —

(Ane:... Let us introduce ourselves...)

Reincarnator A: As expected of the Golden Clan who created the stars; they are just different.

Reincarnator B: Ah, Lord Ane, so cool. If only it could look at me once.

Reincarnator A: But with such big shots participating, won't it be very dangerous?

Reincarnator C: People in our line of work don't fear danger. Besides, if something happens, the tall ones will take the hit first. Moreover, this trip can earn hundreds of T Points, which is equivalent to tens of thousands of Reincarnation Points—it's worth several missions.

...

(Youth:... My recommender is the Saint Beast King.)

Reincarnator B: This cocky guy is also quite good.

Reincarnator D: That idiot from just now directly provoked a lunatic under the Saint Beast King; he was quite unlucky.

...

(Jean:... My Guardian is 'D'.)

Reincarnator A, B, C, D:!! Can't mess with her, can't mess with her! She's a big shot!
