Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: The Dinner

They pulled into the parking lot of a diner called "The Silver Spoon." It was a silver building with neon pink lights around the windows. Jaxson parked the motorcycle and turned off the engine. The silence felt very loud after the roar of the bike. He got off first and then helped Isabella down. He put his hands on her waist to lift her. His grip was very firm.

"You're very light," he said, looking at her. "Do you even eat?"

"I eat a lot," Isabella said, blushing again. "I just have a fast metabolism."

"I like a girl with an appetite," Jaxson said. He grabbed her hand and led her inside.

A bell rang above the door when they walked in. A waitress with big blonde hair and a name tag that said 'Patty' looked up. She smiled at Jaxson, but she didn't really look at Isabella.

"Table for two, sugar?" Patty asked.

"Booth," Jaxson said. He didn't wait for her to lead them. He just walked to a corner booth and sat down. Isabella sat across from him. The red vinyl seat was a little bit sticky.

Patty came over with two menus. She set them down. "Can I get you folks started with some drinks?"

"I'll have a black coffee," Jaxson said. "And she'll have a strawberry milkshake."

Isabella looked at him. "How did you know I wanted a strawberry milkshake?"

"You look like a strawberry kind of girl," he said. He didn't look at the menu. He just stared at her. His eyes were very green in the bright lights of the diner.

"I'll have the shake," Isabella told Patty.

When the waitress left, Isabella felt a little bit nervous. "So, Jaxson. Why did you move to Oakhaven? It's kind of a boring town."

"I needed a change," he said. He reached across the table and took her hand. He started rubbing his thumb over her knuckles. It felt very good. "I used to live in the city. I was doing a lot of things I shouldn't have been doing. I have a lot of money, Isabella. More than I know what to do with. But I wasn't happy."

"What kind of things?" Isabella asked.

"Business," he said shortly. "Dangerous business. But now I'm here. And I saw you, and I thought, maybe this is why I came to this boring town."

Isabella felt a flutter in her stomach. "You barely know me."

"I know enough," he said. "I know you're beautiful. I know you're shy. And I know you're mine."

Isabella gasped. "Yours? We just met."

"I'm a man who knows what he wants," Jaxson said. He squeezed her hand a little bit tighter. "And I want you."

Patty came back with the coffee and the shake. She put them down on the table. "Are you ready to order food?"

"Two cheeseburgers," Jaxson said. "With everything on them. And a large order of fries to share."

"You got it," Patty said. She walked away.

Isabella took a sip of her shake. It was very cold and sweet. She felt Jaxson watching her every move. He took a sip of his black coffee. He didn't put any sugar or cream in it. He liked things bitter, she realized.
