Chapter 56 - Chapter 55: The First Creator's Confession

The chamber fell into reverent silence.

Silver light flowed from the First Root, gathering into the graceful form of the First Creator.

She was not entirely solid.

Her body shimmered like moonlight reflected on still water, fading at the edges with every heartbeat of the dying prison.

Yet her presence filled the chamber.

Even the Seventh Lock became quiet.

Even the Empty One lowered its gaze.

For a long moment, no one spoke.

Then the young man—the son Amara had only just found—looked up at the woman before him.

"You..." he whispered.

The First Creator smiled sadly.

"I know."

Her eyes were filled with tears.

"I have watched every moment of your suffering."

Amara stepped protectively in front of her son.

"You watched?"

Pain crossed the woman's face.

"I could do nothing else."

Amara's grief turned to anger.

"You created all of this."

Her voice echoed through the chamber.

"You created me."

"You hid the truth."

"You left Orion imprisoned."

"You left our son beneath this mountain."

"And now the world is ending."

Each accusation struck like a hammer.

Yet the First Creator never looked away.

When Amara finished, the woman bowed her head.

"You are right."

The simple admission stole the anger from the room.

"I was wrong."

Silence followed.

The Empty One watched without interruption.

The Keeper stood motionless.

Even the Executioner lowered its chained head.

The First Creator looked at Amara once more.

"I believed love meant protecting everyone."

Her voice trembled.

"So I refused every sacrifice."

She turned toward the Empty One.

"I thought mercy meant never letting go."

The great being met her gaze.

Its expression held no hatred.

Only sorrow.

"I feared his solution."

She looked back at Amara.

"And because I feared it... I stopped trusting him."

The words hung in the air.

"I divided your soul."

"I scattered your memories."

"I built the Seven Locks."

"I wounded the one who stood beside me since the beginning."

Her luminous form flickered.

Every confession made her weaker.

"I believed I was saving creation."

A bitter smile touched her lips.

"But I was only postponing its pain."

Amara struggled to steady her breathing.

"You knew our son would suffer."

The First Creator closed her eyes.

"I prayed Orion would find another way."

Orion's voice broke the silence.

"There wasn't one."

The woman nodded.

"I know."

Their son looked between them.

"So... none of this was my fault?"

The question shattered every heart in the chamber.

The First Creator crossed the room.

She knelt before him despite her fading strength.

"No."

She placed a glowing hand gently against his cheek.

"None of this was ever your fault."

Tears slipped down his face.

"I tried."

"I know."

"I held it back."

"I know."

"I was scared."

The First Creator smiled through her own tears.

"I know."

For the first time in thousands of years, someone had finally told him what he had needed to hear.

He had not failed.

He had endured.

The Empty One stepped closer to the broken fortress.

Its immense face filled the shattered opening above.

"I never blamed him."

Its voice entered every mind.

"I blamed myself."

The chamber grew still.

The First Creator looked up.

"So did I."

Their eyes met across the ages.

Two beings who had once shaped stars together.

Two creators who had become enemies through fear.

Neither looked angry.

Only tired.

Only heartbroken.

The Empty One spoke again.

"You should have trusted me."

A tear rolled down the First Creator's cheek.

"I should have."

The words echoed through the mountain.

Something shifted.

Not outside.

Inside.

The darkness surrounding the Empty One seemed to recede ever so slightly.

The shard floating within the Seventh Lock glowed brighter.

Hope.

Tiny.

Fragile.

But real.

The First Creator looked at Amara.

"The shard."

Amara followed her gaze.

The crystal fragment floated above the silver flames.

"It is the piece I stole from him."

The Empty One remained silent.

"The part that allowed him to grieve without becoming consumed."

"The part that accepted endings without becoming emptiness."

"The part capable of forgiveness."

Amara whispered, "His heart."

The First Creator nodded.

"Not all of it."

"But enough."

Kael stepped forward.

"If we return it..."

"No one knows," Orion answered honestly.

"He may become whole."

The Executioner finished quietly,

"Or cease to exist."

The risk settled heavily over everyone.

The First Creator turned to Amara.

"This is why the Lock chose you."

Amara shook her head.

"I don't know what to do."

"You do."

"I don't."

"You are afraid."

Amara's eyes filled with tears.

"Of course I am."

The First Creator smiled gently.

"So was I."

She reached out, placing two fingers lightly against Amara's forehead.

A warm light spread through Amara's mind.

Not another vision.

A feeling.

Peace.

Acceptance.

Understanding.

"You do not carry my burden."

The woman's voice became softer.

"You are not here to correct my mistakes."

Her hand lowered.

"You are here to make your own choice."

The words settled deep within Amara's heart.

For the first time...

She stopped trying to discover the "right" answer.

Perhaps there wasn't one.

Perhaps there was only the answer she could live with.

A sudden cry tore through the chamber.

Their son collapsed.

The black cracks raced across his body once more.

Far worse than before.

He screamed in agony.

The fracture inside him was growing stronger.

The Empty One immediately raised a hand.

"It is spreading."

Orion dropped beside his son.

Holding him upright.

The young man's breathing became ragged.

"It hurts..."

Silver light poured from the First Root into his body.

It wasn't enough.

The cracks continued spreading.

Across his arms.

Across his neck.

Toward his face.

The Keeper looked toward the First Creator.

"There is no time."

She nodded sadly.

"I know."

The Executioner spoke the truth none of them wanted to hear.

"The wound has awakened."

Another tremor shook the mountain.

The First Root split again.

Half its silver leaves fell at once.

Outside...

The sky was almost completely consumed by absence.

The prison had minutes left.

The First Creator looked toward Amara one final time.

"My daughter."

Amara looked up.

The woman smiled with all the warmth of a mother saying goodbye.

"I trust you."

Her form began dissolving into silver light.

"No!" Amara cried.

The First Creator shook her head gently.

"My strength has been part of the prison since the beginning."

The light around her intensified.

"I can only do one last thing."

She turned toward the First Root.

Toward the dying heart of the prison.

Then she raised both hands.

Every remaining fragment of her spirit burst into radiant silver light.

The light streamed into the First Root.

The ancient tree roared with life.

Its dying branches bloomed once more.

The prison stabilized.

Not permanently.

Just long enough.

The First Creator looked back at Amara one last time.

Her body was almost completely transparent now.

Her final words echoed through the chamber.

"Do not choose from fear..."

She smiled.

"...choose from love."

Then she was gone.

The chamber fell silent.

Only drifting silver petals remained where she had stood.

Amara slowly reached out.

One glowing petal landed in her hand.

Then dissolved into light.

A deep, thunderous crack echoed beneath the mountain.

The temporary strength the First Creator had given the prison had revealed something hidden below.

The broken floor split wider.

Far beneath the buried gate...

A second door became visible.

Unlike the Seven Locks, it bore no symbols.

No runes.

Only a single handprint made of black crystal.

The Empty One stared at it in silence.

Then, for the first time since the war began...

True fear crossed its face.

Orion saw it too.

His expression went pale.

Amara looked between them.

"What is that?"

The Empty One answered.

Its voice was quieter than ever before.

"The door we promised would never be opened."
