Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: The Mentor Appears

The sun had begun to set over the floating islands, casting long shadows through the Forest of Shadows. John, Kai, and Bailey were setting up camp near a small clearing.

"Not bad for your first quest, newbie," Kai said, tossing a dagger into his bag. "You survived… and even impressed me."

John managed a small smile, still shaking from the thrill. "Thanks… but I don't fully understand my power yet. I just… copied what I saw."

Bailey leaned closer, lowering her voice. "Copying is strong, yes… but if you don't know the limits, it can backfire."

John frowned. Limits?

A shadow fell across the camp, and all three froze. A figure stepped forward from the trees—a tall man with silver hair and piercing blue eyes. His cloak billowed in the breeze.

"I've been watching you," the man said calmly. "The one who copies skills… that's a rare ability."

John blinked. "Who… are you?"

"Name's Axel," the man replied. "I'm here to guide those with potential. You, John, have more power than you realize—but raw power without control can get you killed."

Kai narrowed his eyes. "So… you're our mentor?"

Axel smiled faintly. "Mentor… yes. But I don't just hand out power. You'll need to train, strategize, and learn the real rules of this world."

Axel gestured toward the forest clearing. "Watch carefully." He raised his hand, and a training hologram appeared, showing a small battle scenario:

A level 5 Forest Goblin attacked a weaker player.

The weaker player tried to copy the goblin's skill but failed, their energy drained.

The hologram player collapsed.

"This," Axel said, "is the danger of your ability. Copying skills isn't automatic. It takes focus, timing, and energy. You must learn to control it."

John swallowed. "Energy… so there's a limit?"

Axel nodded. "Exactly. Copy too much at once, and you could faint. Use it wisely, or you won't survive the challenges ahead."

Kai crossed his arms. "Sounds… intense. But if John can master it, we'll be unstoppable."

Axel's eyes gleamed. "Good. That's the spirit. You've finished your first quest, yes… but real trials begin now. Dungeons, rival players, and guild wars will test you like never before."

John felt a mix of excitement and fear. The forest was quiet now, but he knew: this was only the beginning of a journey that could make him legendary—or destroy him.
