Chapter 54 - Chapter 54: Linger

Sapphire's POV

"Let's just meet back at the house. Stay safe on your way home," I told Ghoth. It would be another two days before I could follow him back.

"You stay safe, too," he replied, his eyes lingering on mine. "I'm sorry I can't walk you there myself."

"Don't worry about me, I can handle myself." I stepped into his space, pulling him close. I leaned in and kissed him deeply, my tongue sliding against his, savoring the taste of him. There was a sweetness to Ghoth that was unlike any man I had ever encountered, a purity that drew me in.

We finally broke apart, both of us breathless, the air between us thick with unspoken words.

"S-Sapphire..."

"Yes?" I asked softly.

"Ah... nothing. I'm leaving now."

With a practiced motion, Ghoth opened a warp toward Caelumn. He had to make an appearance there first before heading back home.

Ghoth's POV

I returned to Dayesh's house after stepping to Caelumn for appearance (cautious for alibi). As I stepped through the door, the younger ones, Amon and Lzith, were running around, while Rosarie and Khafa were occupied. Khafa was reading a book while eating.

The moment I entered, Khafa stood up, dropping his book to meet me.

"Good to see you're back. You've been gone a long time."

"I just needed some rest," I said, scratching the back of my head awkwardly.

"Come outside. Let's get some air," Khafa said, his tone leaving no room for argument.

"I just got here..."

"Just come on."

We sat on the wooden bench in the backyard. The evening air was cool, but the atmosphere felt heavy.

"Hey," Khafa started, his eyes piercing. "You weren't in Caelumn. Where were you, really?"

"Wait, you went there? Why?"

"Dayesh had me look for you. When I got there, they said you only stayed for two days before disappearing again. No one knew where you went."

"I told them not to tell anyone where I was resting," I lied, though my heart hammered against my ribs.

"Don't lie to me, Ghoth. There's something different about you."

I knew Khafa had a keen sense of smell, sharper even than Dayesh, our leader. He was the most efficient hunter among us, capable of tracking the faintest scent of an enemy. I wondered if he could smell her on me.

"Let's talk later. I'm exhausted," I said, desperate to escape the interrogation.

"Fine. I told Dayesh you were sick and hadn't recovered yet. He believed me. He and I handled the guild mission ourselves days ago."

"I'm really sorry. I'll make it up to you next time."

My mind drifted back to Sapphire. Our relationship was a secret that could never come to light. I had to bury it deep, no matter the cost.

"I'm going up to my room to sleep," I muttered. Khafa nodded, and we headed back inside.

Late Night...

The house was silent. Knowing I was alone in my room and the door was locked tight, the longing became unbearable. I couldn't wait for two days. I conjured a warp, the shimmering portal leading straight to her room.

Dmn, I miss her already.

When I stepped through, the room was dim. Sapphire was fast asleep, her breathing steady. I approached her like a shadow, sliding into the bed beside her. As I wrapped my arms around her, she stirred.

"Ghoth?" she whispered, her voice thick with sleep.

"It's me."

"Why are you back? Won't they find you?"

"I'm just visiting for a moment," I murmured against her skin. "I missed you the second I left."

I captured her lips in a feverish kiss, and she met my hunger with her own.

"I couldn't stand being away from you when I knew I had a way to get back," I whispered.

She didn't need to answer. Her hands were already busy, shedding my clothes with an urgency that matched my own. It was only then I realized she had been sleeping completely bare under the sheets.

"I want you to do something for me," she whispered, her eyes dark with desire. She grabbed a pillow and propped it under her hips, arching her body toward me. "I want to feel your tongue."

I was a novice to this specific plea, but as she guided me, explaining what she craved, I learned quickly. My mouth found her, and I heard her breath hitch.

"Yes... just like that. Use your tongue... deeper," she urged, her fingers tangling in my hair, guiding the rhythm of my movements.

"Ahhh..." Her back arched, her hips lifting higher as she surrendered to the sensation. I felt a surge of pride knowing I was the one making her feel this way.

"Ahhh, almost... Ghoth, almost!"

Her body shuddered beneath me, a soft cry escaping her lips. "Wow... you're a fast learner, Ghoth. You got it right on the first try."

I smiled against her skin, heart swelling. "My turn," she whispered.

I lay back, and Sapphire moved between my thighs. As she took me into her mouth, a jolt of electricity shot through my entire being. The sensation was overwhelming, blurring my vision as she teased and pleasured me with a slow, deliberate heat.

"You're so responsive," she murmured, looking up at me before she shifted positions, straddling me.

We moved together in a blurred dance of heat and friction, her skin slick against mine. She leaned down, burying her face in the crook of my neck, her grip tightening on my shoulders as we both reached the peak of the storm.

Afterward, she kissed me, a deep, lingering kiss that tasted of salt and obsession. I pulled her down, my hands roaming over her curves, reluctant to let the night end. I leaned in, pressing my lips to the soft skin of her chest, leaving a dark, blooming mark, a brand that said she belonged to me.

"Hey, not where it can be seen," she scolded gently, though she didn't pull away. I moved lower, marking her where the hem of a shirt would hide it.

"Can you give me one, too?" I asked.

"Where?"

"Right here." I pointed to my neck.

"Are you sure? Someone might see."

"It's fine. I'll just say I got scratched during training."

I closed my eyes, savoring the sharp, stinging sweetness as she nipped and sucked at the skin near on my nape.

"There. It's nice and red," she whispered, her thumb brushing over the mark. "Are you going back now? You should probably wash up first."

"No," I said, pulling her closer. "I want to keep the scent of you on me as long as possible."

We lay there in the quiet, the sky outside beginning to turn the pale grey of pre-dawn. I didn't want to leave, but the sun was my enemy now.

"Goodbye," I whispered after I had dressed.

"See you soon," she replied, waving softly from the bed.

I opened the warp and stepped through.

When i returned, I lay down on my bed immediately to continue my sleep, still lingering on Sapphire.

Later on when I start drifting from my sleep, a sharp knocking at my door jolted me awake.

"Ghoth! Get up!" Khafa's voice barked from the other side. "Get dressed. We're heading out."

"W-what? Now?" I rubbed my eyes, the ghost of Sapphire's touch still lingering on my skin.

"We have a mission. Move it!"

I sighed, pulling my collar up to hide the mark on my neck, a secret fire burning in my chest as I prepared for the day.
