Chapter 19 - A Day Just For Us

The morning sunlight streamed through the curtains, painting golden streaks across my room.

I stretched lazily, a soft smile tugging at my lips.

Ethan was already downstairs, fiddling with the coffee machine, humming a tune I vaguely recognized.

I felt warmth bloom in my chest.

Quietly, I crept downstairs, hoping to surprise him.

"Good morning," I whispered as I entered the kitchen.

He turned, grinning when he saw me.

"Good morning, beautiful," he said softly.

My cheeks heated. "Stop it," I murmured, though my smile betrayed me.

He winked. "Never."

I rolled my eyes, moving to grab a cup, but he reached out and gently took my hand.

"Come on," he said, tugging me lightly. "I've got a day planned. Just for us."

I blinked. "A day… for us?"

"Exactly," he said, voice soft but teasing. "No interruptions. No Maya, no distractions. Just… you and me."

My heart raced. "And what does this mysterious day involve?"

"You'll see," he said with a mischievous grin, pulling me toward the door.

We walked in silence for a few minutes, hand in hand, the gentle pressure of his fingers against mine sending thrills through me.

Eventually, we reached a small café by the riverside, one I had never noticed before.

"It's beautiful," I murmured, taking in the view.

"Not as beautiful as you," he said softly, and I felt my cheeks burn.

I rolled my eyes, trying to hide my blush, but he caught my gaze and winked.

We ordered breakfast and sat outside, the gentle breeze making his hair fall into his eyes.

I couldn't stop looking at him, the way the sunlight kissed his skin, the subtle curve of his smile.

"So," he said, leaning closer, "you're mine now, officially."

I laughed softly. "Officially? Do we need paperwork?"

"Only our hearts," he said, brushing his fingers against mine again.

Breakfast passed in playful teasing and soft laughter. Every glance, every touch, every shared joke made my chest tighten.

Afterward, he suggested a walk along the riverside.

We strolled quietly, hands brushing and finally intertwining, and I realized how much I'd wanted this—these small, intimate moments where nothing else existed but us.

At one point, Ethan stopped and turned to face me.

"Lara," he whispered, eyes dark with intensity, "you have no idea how much I've wanted to hold you like this in public.

I swallowed hard. "Ethan!" I gasped, cheeks flaming.

"Relax," he said softly, leaning closer. "No one's watching. Just… feel this moment with me."

I nodded, heart racing, letting him pull me close.

Our lips met softly at first, teasing and gentle, then deeper, more deliberate, letting every withheld emotion pour out.

I felt his hands rest lightly on my waist, holding me close, but not too close—just enough to make my heart skip.

When we finally pulled apart, breathing heavily, he whispered, "This… this is what I've been waiting for."

"I know," I murmured. "Me too."

Later, we found a quiet bench by the river.

Ethan draped his arm around my shoulders, pulling me close, and I rested my head against his chest, feeling the steady beat of his heart.

"You know," he said softly, "I never thought something this simple could feel so perfect. Just… being with you."

I tilted my head, looking up at him. "It feels like we're the only two people in the world."

He smiled, pressing a soft kiss to my forehead. "Exactly."

We spent the afternoon like that—walking, laughing, holding hands, and stealing little kisses whenever no one was looking.

Even when we passed a group of people, the world seemed to shrink around us.

At one point, Maya called, interrupting our perfect bubble.

"Where are you two?" she asked, voice teasing.

"Just… walking," I replied quickly, hiding the blush creeping up my cheeks.

"You're too obvious," she said, laughing softly. "Just don't do anything stupid."

Ethan smirked at me. "We wouldn't dare."

After hanging up, we continued our walk, enjoying the river breeze and each other's company.

By evening, we returned home, tired but happy.

Ethan pulled me close on the couch, resting his head on mine.

"I don't want this day to end," he murmured.

"Neither do I," I admitted, snuggling closer.

He smiled softly. "Then let's make a promise. More days like this. Just us. No hiding. No pretending. Just… love."

I smiled, feeling warmth spread through me. "I promise."

And in that moment, I knew—this was only the beginning.
