In the beginning, I had no physical form. People traded things for things—like a cow for grain or cloth for rice. But there was a big problem: if you wanted grain but the other person only had shoes to trade, the deal couldn't happen. Life was complicated without me.
2. Strange and Rare Forms (Commodity Money)
Then, humans began to find me in precious objects. For a long time, Cowrie Shells, salt, and even tea leaves were used as "money." It sounds strange now, but back then, these were considered very expensive and valuable items.
3. Gold and Silver Coins
About 2,700 years ago, I was given a metallic soul. Gold and silver coins were minted. This was my most glorious era because I had a value of my own. Kings and Emperors put their stamps on me, making me a symbol of their ultimate power.
4. Paper Currency (Paper Money)
Coins were heavy to carry, so paper notes were first used in China. Initially, these notes were like a "receipt"—a promise that the bank held an equal amount of gold for you. Over time, I became a piece of paper backed by the trust of a government.
