Lin Yue's heart sank the moment Zhang Ming finished speaking.
"What do you mean someone from my past?" she asked.
Zhang Ming looked slightly uncomfortable.
"He's in the reception area downstairs."
Li Wei Chen closed the file he was holding and looked at Lin Yue.
"Who is it?"
Lin Yue already had a bad feeling.
"There's only one person it could be."
She took a slow breath.
"My ex."
Zhang Ming nodded.
"His name is Chen Tao, right?"
Lin Yue frowned.
"How do you know that?"
"Because he's currently telling the receptionist that he needs to speak to you urgently."
Li Wei Chen stood up.
"Let's go."
Lin Yue looked at him quickly.
"You're coming?"
"Yes."
"This is my personal problem."
"And you are currently my wife," he replied calmly.
She didn't know why, but hearing that made her feel slightly less nervous.
The three of them took the elevator down.
Lin Yue's stomach tightened as the doors opened to the reception area.
And there he was.
Chen Tao.
He looked exactly the same. Tall, confident, and still wearing that familiar careless smile.
The moment he saw Lin Yue, he walked toward her.
"Lin Yue."
Her expression turned cold.
"Why are you here?"
Chen Tao glanced at Li Wei Chen standing beside her.
"So it's true."
Lin Yue frowned.
"What is?"
"You actually married someone else."
His tone sounded bitter.
Li Wei Chen spoke calmly.
"Yes."
Chen Tao looked him up and down.
"So you're the famous Li Wei Chen."
Li Wei Chen didn't respond.
Chen Tao turned back to Lin Yue.
"You moved on quickly."
Lin Yue crossed her arms.
"You cheated on me."
He sighed.
"That was a mistake."
"A mistake?" she repeated.
"You were dating another woman for six months."
Several employees nearby were pretending not to listen, but it was obvious everyone could hear the conversation.
Chen Tao rubbed the back of his neck.
"I came here to talk."
"There's nothing to talk about."
"There is," he insisted.
Lin Yue's patience was disappearing.
"You broke my trust."
"I know."
"And now you show up at my husband's company?"
Chen Tao looked directly at Li Wei Chen.
"So you really married him."
"Yes," Lin Yue replied firmly.
Chen Tao laughed quietly.
"That's interesting."
Lin Yue frowned.
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"It means… this marriage looks suspicious."
Li Wei Chen's expression remained calm, but his voice became slightly colder.
"Be careful with your words."
Chen Tao didn't seem intimidated.
"Everyone knows Li Wei Chen is too busy for relationships."
Lin Yue felt anger rising.
"Enough."
Chen Tao looked at her again.
"You're really happy with him?"
She didn't hesitate.
"Yes."
Chen Tao studied her face.
"You're lying."
Li Wei Chen stepped forward slightly.
"That's enough."
Chen Tao raised his hands casually.
"Relax. I'm just talking."
Lin Yue took a deep breath.
"Why did you come here?"
Chen Tao's expression became more serious.
"I wanted to apologize."
"You could have done that months ago."
"I know."
"So why now?"
Chen Tao hesitated.
Then he said quietly,
"Because I realized I made a mistake."
Lin Yue felt a strange mix of anger and sadness.
"You realized that after I left?"
"Yes."
She shook her head slowly.
"It's too late."
Chen Tao looked disappointed.
"I thought maybe we could start again."
Li Wei Chen's voice became firm.
"That will not happen."
Chen Tao glanced at him again.
"Does she actually love you?"
For a moment, nobody spoke.
Then Li Wei Chen answered calmly.
"That is none of your concern."
Chen Tao looked back at Lin Yue one last time.
"If things don't work out… you know where to find me."
Lin Yue's eyes narrowed.
"They won't."
Chen Tao gave a small nod.
Then he turned and walked out of the building.
The moment he disappeared, Lin Yue finally relaxed.
She let out a breath she didn't realize she was holding.
Zhang Ming leaned closer.
"Well… that was dramatic."
Lin Yue rubbed her forehead.
"I can't believe he showed up here."
Li Wei Chen looked at her.
"Are you alright?"
She nodded slowly.
"Yes."
Then she paused.
"Thank you."
"For what?"
"For standing there."
Li Wei Chen didn't answer immediately.
But for some reason, Lin Yue felt something different in the air between them.
Something that wasn't part of the contract anymore.
And somewhere outside the building, Chen Tao stopped walking and looked back at the tall Li Group tower.
A small smile appeared on his face.
Because he had a feeling…
This story between them wasn't over yet.
