Seraphina found her signature beneath a procedure she had not requested.
She drew the sheet back through the records window. The clerk kept two fingers on the corner until he saw her face, then let go.
"The channel trace," she said. "Why is that marked?"
"Routine extension for a training injury."
"She agreed to have the elbow examined and dressed."
The girl waiting beside her shifted the injured arm against her stomach. Her academy sleeve had been rolled above a patch of bruised skin, and the unsupported cuff kept slipping. Seraphina helped her fold it once more before turning back to the window.
"That was the request I signed."
The girl leaned nearer the window, trying to see the line without letting her arm hang. Seraphina lowered the page for her. The clerk had turned it toward the person whose name was at the bottom; the girl had been left reading it sideways.
"Is that the same thing?" she asked.
