Chapter 25 - Outside Life

Inside the Jeon estate, Jungkook learned how to breathe quietly.

The elders' voices echoed endlessly through the halls—lessons layered with expectations, words heavy with responsibility. Every movement was corrected. Every response weighed. Every silence judged.

"Stand properly." "Listen carefully." "Remember who you are."

Jungkook nodded when he was told to nod. Spoke only when spoken to. He allowed the pressure to settle on his shoulders like an invisible cloak—one he wore only within these walls.

Because he had learned something important.

Endure here. Live outside.

The moment he stepped beyond the gates of the Jeon estate, something inside him loosened.

His chest felt lighter. His steps less measured. His breath—his own.

Their usual meeting place greeted him with noise and warmth.

Jimin was already in the middle of a performance.

"…AND THEN THE ELDER SAID—" Jimin straightened his back stiffly, lowered his voice dramatically, "—'A true heir does not scratch his head like that.'"

Jungkook burst out laughing.

Hoseok collapsed against a tree, wheezing. "Why are you so good at that?!"

Seokjin pinched the bridge of his nose. "I swear, Namjoon, if you keep forgetting titles like that, I'll start lecturing you the way the Jeons do."

Namjoon blinked. "Wait—what title did I forget?"

"Exactly!" Seokjin snapped.

The laughter came easily—real, unguarded. The kind that made Jungkook forget the weight waiting for him back home.

Taehyung stayed close, leaning beside him, his presence steady and grounding. Every so often, their fingers brushed, and Taehyung would smile like it was the most natural thing in the world.

For a moment, Jungkook thought—

Maybe this is enough.

Then the pain struck.

Sharp. Sudden.

Jungkook staggered slightly, hand flying to his head.

The world tilted.

His vision blurred—and then—

Blood.

A body falling.

The sound of steel.

Someone collapsing right in front of him.

His breath hitched.

"No—" he whispered.

The image vanished as quickly as it came, leaving only a pounding ache behind.

Jungkook's gaze darted around instinctively.

Jimin. Laughing.

Hoseok. Smiling.

Seokjin. Mid-lecture.

Namjoon. Calm.

Taehyung.

Safe.

Alive.

Taehyung noticed immediately.

"Kook?" he asked softly, turning fully toward him. "What's wrong?"

Jungkook swallowed hard.

He wanted to say everything. About the visions. About death standing too close. About fate breathing down his neck.

But he didn't.

Instead, he forced a small smile. "It's nothing."

Taehyung studied him for a moment—clearly unconvinced—but didn't push.

Instead, he leaned in and pressed a gentle kiss to Jungkook's forehead.

Then one to his cheek.

Then another, lingering just a little longer.

Jungkook froze—then melted.

Taehyung wrapped his arms around him in a tight hug, one hand cradling the back of his head.

"I'm here," Taehyung murmured quietly, meant only for him.

Jungkook closed his eyes, breathing him in.

Behind them—

"WOW," Jimin announced loudly. "Is this a public display of affection?"

Hoseok gasped. "In broad daylight?!"

Seokjin sighed dramatically. "I raise children, and this is how they repay me."

Namjoon smiled. "Honestly, they look happy."

Jungkook laughed weakly into Taehyung's shoulder.

Taehyung tightened his hold just a little.

For now, the laughter drowned out the fear.

For now, Jungkook chose warmth over worry.

But deep inside, the image remained—

Someone falling. Someone dying. Someone fate refused to name.

And Jungkook knew—

The future was watching them too.
