Chapter 270 - Chapter 270: The Seventh Door

The mountain was silent.

Not peaceful.

Silent.

There was a difference.

Ayan sat beside the dying campfire, staring at the silver notebook in his hands. The last words remained on the page.

THE GATE HAS OPENED.

THE KEY HAS BEEN RECOGNIZED.

He had read them several times.

They hadn't changed.

Seraphine sat across from him, her back against a tree. She had barely spoken since Elena's final farewell.

Mira and Maren were asleep.

Doctor Rowan was resting nearby.

Only Ayan and Seraphine remained awake.

"What are you thinking?" Seraphine asked.

Ayan closed the notebook.

"That I don't like mysterious messages."

She smiled faintly.

"You've received quite a few."

"Exactly."

"Maybe you should stop reading them."

"I tried."

"And?"

"They kept appearing."

Seraphine laughed quietly.

For a moment, neither spoke.

Then Ayan looked toward the mountain.

"The First Heart is contained."

"Yes."

"Your mother's gone."

Seraphine lowered her gaze.

"Yes."

"And yet..."

"The story isn't over."

Ayan nodded.

"No."

The wind moved through the trees.

Seraphine looked at him.

"Do you regret coming to Valenne?"

Ayan thought for several seconds.

"No."

"Even after everything?"

"Especially after everything."

She smiled.

"Why?"

"Because if we hadn't come..."

He looked toward her.

"...you would still be carrying questions you didn't know how to ask."

Seraphine was quiet.

Then she whispered,

"I found my mother."

Ayan nodded.

"And lost her again."

"Yes."

She touched the wooden bracelet around her wrist.

"But this time, I knew she was proud of me."

Her smile returned.

"That's enough."

Ayan smiled.

"Good."

They sat quietly until the fire completely died.

Then the mountain pulsed.

Once.

A faint silver light appeared beneath the trees.

Seraphine immediately stood.

"Ayan."

"I see it."

The light spread across the ground.

A circle appeared.

Inside it was the same symbol from the notebook.

The seventh symbol.

An open eye.

Ayan stood.

"Don't touch it."

Seraphine looked at him.

"I wasn't going to."

"Good."

The circle expanded.

The air inside it distorted.

Then...

A doorway appeared.

There was no wall.

No structure.

Just a doorway standing alone in the forest.

Its frame was made of black stone.

Beyond it was darkness.

Ayan felt the Bridge react.

His entire body became cold.

The notebook appeared.

The pages turned.

A new sentence appeared.

**THE SEVENTH DOOR**

Ayan stared.

Then another line.

**DO NOT ENTER ALONE.**

Seraphine looked at him.

"That's new."

Ayan nodded.

"Very."

A third line appeared.

**DO NOT TRUST WHAT YOU SEE.**

The notebook closed.

Seraphine looked toward the door.

"Do you think we should enter?"

"No."

She nodded.

"Good."

Ayan stared at the doorway.

"We should first find out where it leads."

"How?"

He looked toward the monastery.

"The monk."

---

The old monk was awake when they returned.

He seemed unsurprised when Ayan told him about the doorway.

"The seventh door."

"You know it?"

"I know of it."

"Where does it lead?"

The monk didn't answer.

Ayan's expression hardened.

"You're hiding something."

"Yes."

"Why?"

"Because knowledge of the door has killed everyone who possessed it."

Maren, now awake, frowned.

"That's encouraging."

The monk ignored him.

"The door does not lead to a place."

Ayan narrowed his eyes.

"Then what?"

"It leads to a possibility."

"Explain."

The monk sighed.

"Long ago, the First Keepers discovered that the world was not singular."

Silence.

"There are layers."

"Worlds?"

"Possibilities."

"Different realities?"

The monk nodded.

"Every major choice creates a divergence."

Ayan immediately thought of the Bridge.

The monk continued.

"The First Heart existed across many of these possibilities."

Doctor Rowan stepped closer.

"You're saying there are other versions of it?"

"Yes."

"Other worlds?"

"Yes."

Mira looked toward the doorway.

"And the seventh door?"

"The door connects to one of them."

Seraphine's expression changed.

"Which one?"

The monk looked at her.

"The one where the First Heart was never sealed."

Silence.

Ayan's face became serious.

"Then that world..."

"Is dead."

---

They returned to the doorway at sunrise.

This time, everyone went together.

The monk refused to accompany them.

"I've spent my life protecting the door."

"Then why tell us about it?"

"Because now it has opened by itself."

Ayan understood.

The door wasn't waiting for someone to unlock it.

It had chosen to open.

The Bridge had triggered it.

That made the situation much worse.

Ayan stood before the doorway.

He reached out.

Seraphine grabbed his wrist.

"Don't."

He looked at her.

"The notebook said not to enter alone."

"You're not alone."

She stood beside him.

"Neither are they."

Mira raised her weapon.

Maren nodded.

Doctor Rowan sighed.

"I suppose we're doing this."

Ayan smiled.

"Stay close."

They stepped through.

---

The world changed.

There was no sensation of movement.

No falling.

No pain.

One moment they were standing in the forest.

The next...

They were somewhere else.

Ayan immediately noticed the sky.

It was black.

Not nighttime.

Black.

There were no stars.

No moon.

Only darkness.

The forest around them was dead.

Every tree had turned white.

The ground was covered in ash.

Seraphine looked around.

"This isn't our world."

"No."

Ayan touched the soil.

It crumbled beneath his fingers.

Mira whispered,

"Where are we?"

The monk had been right.

This wasn't a place.

It felt like the remains of one.

They walked forward.

After several minutes, they found a road.

Buildings stood along it.

But they were empty.

A sign hung above one.

Ayan recognized the language.

"Valenne."

Seraphine stopped.

Her face became pale.

"No."

They entered the city.

It was Valenne.

But not the Valenne they knew.

The streets were intact.

The buildings hadn't collapsed.

Yet there were no people.

No animals.

No sound.

Seraphine slowly approached a house.

She looked through the window.

Inside was a dining table.

Plates remained on it.

Food had turned to ash.

A child's toy lay on the floor.

She whispered,

"Everyone left."

Ayan shook his head.

"No."

"What?"

"They didn't leave."

He pointed toward the street.

Footprints covered the ash.

Hundreds.

All moving in the same direction.

Toward the center of the city.

Seraphine followed them with her eyes.

"The clinic."

They walked.

The city became stranger.

Some buildings were covered in black roots.

Others were completely untouched.

Then they saw something.

A statue.

It stood in the center of the main square.

A woman.

Long hair.

A white robe.

Hands raised toward the sky.

Seraphine stopped.

Ayan looked at the statue.

"Do you know her?"

Seraphine shook her head.

"No."

Then she moved closer.

There was an inscription beneath it.

Ayan read it aloud.

"Elena Valenne."

Seraphine froze.

"What?"

Ayan pointed.

The statue was dedicated to her mother.

But the inscription contained another sentence.

**SAVIOR OF THE FIRST WORLD.**

Seraphine stared.

"First world?"

Ayan's expression became grim.

Then something moved behind the statue.

A figure stepped into the street.

A woman.

Long silver-white hair.

A white robe.

A silver lily in her hair.

Seraphine stopped breathing.

Ayan immediately reached for his weapon.

The woman looked at them.

Her eyes were familiar.

Her face was familiar.

Her voice was familiar.

"Seraphine?"

Seraphine's hands began trembling.

"Mother?"

The woman smiled.

"You're alive."

Seraphine took one step forward.

Ayan grabbed her arm.

"Wait."

The woman looked at him.

Then smiled.

"You are the Key."

Ayan froze.

The woman continued.

"And you brought my daughter."

Seraphine stared.

"Mother..."

The woman smiled.

But something was wrong.

Ayan could feel it.

The Bridge was screaming.

The woman wasn't Elena.

Not entirely.

She was something else.

A copy.

A possibility.

A version of Elena from another world.

The woman raised her hand.

"Come home, Sera."

Seraphine took a step.

Ayan tightened his grip.

"Don't."

The woman looked at him.

Her smile disappeared.

"You don't belong here."

Ayan stared.

"Neither do you."

The woman's eyes turned black.

The entire city began shaking.

Thousands of windows opened simultaneously.

Figures appeared behind them.

Every one of them had golden eyes.

The woman smiled again.

"Then perhaps..."

She raised her hand.

"...we should make you belong."

The city erupted.

And from beneath the streets came the sound of a heartbeat.

Boom.

Boom.

Boom.

The First Heart of this world had awakened.
