Maya was upright even before the rain began. While sitting in the lonely chair in the middle of her room facing the window, it was easy to see the sky darken, and she got to her feet to get a closer look at the dark skies.
She approached the window and looked out, watching the children run around and their mothers yelling for them to get inside. Usually, she didn't linger long as she worried someone might see her, but with the coming rain, no one looked in her direction.
She rested her elbows on the frame as she watched the commotion. A mother was scolding her young daughter and trying to get her into the house. Just as the girl dejectedly accepted her fate another child got out of their mother's clutches and ran into the rain.
