Chapter 23 - Chapter 23 Free Lunch

Looking at the rabbit hutch that resembled a factory from later generations, Ed was quite satisfied.

"Roderick, the rabbit hutch is very well built. Is the living quarters ready?" Roderick, the middle-aged man, was very pleased to receive the praise. He was very satisfied with his masterpiece.

"My lord, we are short-handed and the houses for people to live in are still under construction."

Actually, the living quarters are similar to this, just smaller. It's like a large dormitory where many people sleep in one room. From now on, the cedar trees will be professionally cultivated here.

Once the land is reclaimed, we will allocate some more land to them.

Ed plans to turn this area into a livestock breeding center. Located downstream from the village's stream, some distance from the village itself, raising livestock won't significantly impact the water supply.

Ed planned to collect all the manure from the livestock to fertilize the fields.

"Yes, we need to speed things up and try to finish building it before the autumn harvest."

"Yes, my lord, I will speed up the construction and ensure the autumn harvest is not delayed," Roderick replied confidently.

Ed was quite satisfied with him; he had done a good job on the previous projects, and there would likely be many more opportunities to use his skills in the future.

Ed also plans to build a canteen. Currently, the people in the territory are working for free, which is considered serf labor, and Ed has not even provided them with food.

The situation in the territory used to be really bad, and there was nothing he could do about it, but now the situation is a bit better. Ed wants to build a dining hall between the castle and the village. The two places are not far apart, which is very convenient.

Anyone who works for him can eat there; it's a small perk for those who work for him in the territory.

However, Ed is only planning to provide lunch right now, as the territory's conditions don't allow it. There isn't enough food for everyone to eat freely.

However, Ed believed that things would gradually improve in the territory.

The canteen, unlike the rabbit hutch, needs to be built with more refinement. Ed plans to personally take Roderick to see it in person.

"Roderick, come with me," Ed said, gesturing for Roderick to follow him.

Roderick scratched his head in confusion and followed behind Ed.

They arrived at the point between the castle and the village. Ed stopped, opened the parchment he carried with him, and said to Roderick beside him:

"Build a house like this in this place, with a stone foundation, and make the house quite large."

Ed pointed to the parchment and gestured to its actual size in the open space. Roderick carefully marked the area on the ground.

He was puzzled; how could the lord have so many strange ideas in his head?

And after completing each strange idea, there were some unexpected gains. For example, bows and arrows, or length standards, etc.

He sometimes reflects on himself, wondering why he can't think more about things.

Ed himself may not even realize that he has unknowingly influenced others. It's like asking why an apple falls to the ground.

"And here, this is the main dining area. This is the largest area, with long tables and benches put together, and the VIP area is above it."

Several small rooms will be built to the right of the main dining area for use as private rooms. The kitchen will be built behind the main dining area, with the stove and sink located there.

Build several food storage warehouses near the kitchen. The warehouses should be built with stone, and the interior walls should be made of wood.

"Build several more rest areas for staff here, separate from the main canteen structure, and construct them independently."

Ed considered further subdividing the warehouse, but then thought better of it, as it was already complicated enough.

I don't know when it will be finished. Ed mainly wants it to be taller, with better lighting, so that eating will be more comfortable and less oppressive.

"Ah! My lord, are you planning to move the castle kitchen here? But that will take a long time!" Roderick was also somewhat surprised.

"Take your time, don't rush. Don't tell anyone what this is for," Ed instructed.

"Yes, my lord."

Looking at the large plot of land and the various strange rooms and objects depicted on the parchment in his hand, Roderick couldn't help but think to himself:

"How did these lords come up with these ideas? And why are the warehouses made of stone?"
