Chapter 1 - Chapter:1 The Road to Nowhere Beyond

The night road stretched endlessly ahead.

Adrian kept his eyes on the steering wheel while the headlights cut through the darkness. Tall trees lined both sides of the road, their shadows moving with the car like silent watchers.

Inside the car, music played softly.

Lucas was sitting in the front seat beside Adrian, scrolling through his phone.

"Are we even going the right way?" he asked.

Adrian glanced at the GPS screen.

The map suddenly flickered.

Then it changed.

"Wait…" Adrian muttered.

"What happened?" Elena asked from the back seat.

Adrian looked closer at the screen. "The GPS just changed our route."

Lucas leaned toward the display. "Changed it to where?"

The screen now showed a thin road cutting through a forest area.

Rafael leaned forward with interest. "Shortcut maybe. Take it."

Emma shook her head immediately. "Shortcuts through forests at night are never a good idea."

Nick, who had been quiet the whole ride, stared at the GPS.

"That road wasn't there before," he said calmly.

Olivia looked outside the window.

The forest beside the highway looked dark and endless.

Sofia shifted nervously in her seat. "Maybe we should stay on the main highway."

But Adrian had already slowed the car.

A narrow road appeared ahead, turning off the highway.

The GPS voice spoke again.

"Turn right toward Ravenwood Road."

Lucas smirked. "Ravenwood? That already sounds like a haunted place."

Adrian turned the steering wheel.

The car left the highway and entered Ravenwood Road.

The moment they turned, the signal bars on their phones disappeared.

Emma checked her phone. "No network."

"Same here," Rafael said.

Lucas shrugged. "Relax. It's just a forest road."

The headlights illuminated the narrow path ahead.

Tall trees leaned over the road, their branches almost touching above the car, forming a dark tunnel.

Minutes passed.

Then more minutes.

The road kept going.

And going.

Adrian frowned.

"We should have reached the highway by now."

Lucas looked at the GPS again.

The screen suddenly froze.

Then the map disappeared completely.

Only one line remained.

Continue straight.

"That's weird," Lucas said.

"Maybe the signal is weak," Emma replied.

Nick stared out the window quietly.

Something about the forest felt wrong.

It was too quiet.

No insects.

No wind.

Just the sound of the car moving through the darkness.

After almost thirty minutes, Rafael suddenly pointed ahead.

"Look."

A faint yellow glow appeared in the distance.

As they got closer, shapes of buildings slowly appeared through the fog.

A small town.

Old street lamps flickered weakly above empty roads.

Adrian slowed the car.

A large rusted board stood at the entrance of the town.

Lucas leaned forward to read it.

The paint was faded and cracked, but the name could still be seen.

WELCOME TO NOWHERE BEYOND

Sofia looked around uneasily.

"Does anyone see people?"

No one answered.

The streets were empty.

Shops stood silent with broken windows.

Dust rolled slowly across the road.

Rafael smiled slightly. "Well… this place looks welcoming."

Emma crossed her arms. "Maybe everyone is asleep."

Olivia was staring straight ahead.

A building stood at the corner of the road.

An old motel.

Its neon sign flickered weakly in the darkness.

RAVENWOOD MOTEL – VACANCY

Adrian parked the car slowly.

Lucas stepped out and stretched.

"Well," he said, looking at the silent streets of Nowhere Beyond.

"I think we just found the creepiest stop on our trip."

None of them realized it yet.

But the moment they drove into Nowhere Beyond…

The road behind them had already disappeared.
