"Now," Kuro said, pulling the bunny mask back into place, "let's move on."
Tengu adjusted the camera and the recording light returned. The spotlight stayed fixed on Raina. Ethan sat several feet away with his elbows on his knees and his eyes on the floor, looking like someone who had just had the ground taken out from under them and had not yet decided whether to stand back up.
Kuro turned to the camera with the particular energy of someone who had been waiting for this part.
"Thank you all for sticking around."
He spread his arms.
Fake applause burst through the speakers.
"For our next segment, please welcome Malcolm Stein. Brother of Felix Stein. He has something he would like to say."
The warehouse door opened.
Malcolm walked in.
The moment Raina saw him something desperate surfaced in her.
"Malcolm."
She pulled against the ropes.
