Chapter 70 - Night Time Emergency

Hours later…

Nyx awoke not in her bed but somewhere else…Darkness swirled around like an ocean but she could still see.

'Wha-? Where am I?'

Her thoughts echoed throughout darkness as if it was her own voice. Suddenly, the darkness rippled like a body of water and created an entrance. From that door came a figure covered in a star strewn veil. She imprinted her steps into the sightless, soundless void with disturbing elegancy. Nyx tried to move but couldn't as if her body wasn't hers anymore.

The figure came closer and Nyx realized that it looked like a woman. The figure wrapped her arms around her and whispered into her ear.

"Your finally outside…oh, child who bears my name, am I so happy to meet you. I hope that you carefully tread this path or else I'll lose you…"

'Get away from me! Who are you even?!'

Nyx's thoughts echoed once again. The figure stepped back and smiled, tilting her head.

"You wouldn't know…I'm your benefactor…your savior…but in due time…maybe we'll get to know each other…like the other avatar and his god…"

Nyx's eyes widened. 'Huh…? Wait! Are you a-?"

But before she could spit our more words, the darkness caved in, swallowing them both whole. Then, Nyx woke up from her slumber, sweat covering her face. She sat straight and recalled what just happened.

'What in the actual fuck was that?'

She held her head and gritted her teeth.

'Was she…my god…? No, she' a girl – a Goddess...if so, then…why is she talking to me now? Well…she did say something about being outside? What does that even mean?'

Her mind ran wild with theories and ideas as she laid her back on the bed.

'Forget it…'

She lifted her head, her vision piercing the dark. She saw that the others were sound asleep.

'What time even is it?'

She fell back onto her bed, still thinking of the dream.

'I feel like I've seen her before but where…?'

She shook her head.

'Forget it. Let's go back to sleep.'

She rolled over and pulled her blanket, trying to sleep. Just as she was about to fall in a deep slumber, she felt a distortion in her surroundings. Alerted, she woke up once more but before she could do anything, a loud roar echoed throughout the camp. Nyx's face paled as she realized what had befallen them.

'A chaos fragment?!'

***

Arthur jolted to his senses once her heard the beast's roar.

"WAKE THE FUCK UP! WE HAVE CHAOS FRAGMENT!"

He jumped out of bed and rushed out as the others woke up. He was still in his uniform just without the weighted vest which made his movements feel light. She stopped himself and opened his palm. A small bright orb appeared and grew. He raised his arm and with that, the orb lit up the area. The chaos beasts and fragments were exposed.

He saw the supreme commander and the generals rush out.

"What the hell are you shouting about…Holy mother of God!"

David's eyes widened as he saw the beasts slowly approaching from a distance.

"What class is it, anyway?" Lancelot hissed.

He pressed the earpiece and it instantly morphed into glasses. Holograms appeared in his vision as he activated the chaos measurement function. The glasses began calibrating and after a few seconds, a result was generated. Lancelot sighed and chuckled.

"The hell are you laughing about?! It's a chaos fragment!" David shouted.

"Relax…it's only beta class." Lancelot replied.

"Really? Then, I woke up for nothing?" Nyx wiped her eyes.

"It's a chaos fragment! Why are you people so calm?" David screamed.

"David, shut up. I don't want to hear another word from you." Nyx reprimanded.

David gritted his teeth as Nyx clapped her hands.

"Everyone go back to bed…I'll handle this."

Hearing Nyx's statement, the officers felt relieved and went back to their tents. As Amelia was turning around, Nyx called out to her.

"Hey, you. You're a magician, right?"

"Yes…" Amelia grumbled, turning around.

"Great!" Nyx tore a beast in half. "You'll seal the fragment, okay?'"

"Understood, Mam"

Nyx yawned and began moving forward. As the beasts approached, she shredded, tore, ripped, crushed and broke them apart. Their screams were the only thing that the enforcers could hear. Blood splattered onto the ground, coloring the grass a vivid red which only Nyx could see. Once, they were a few meters away from the fragment.

"Seal it." She snapped her fingers.

Amelia nodded and began drawing a circle in the sky. After a few seconds, she was about to push it away when…

"Oh wait, this is wrong."

She wiped a marking off the circle and remade it the correct way. After, she pushed it towards the rift and it stuck on. The fragment ripped in spacetime as if it was going tear to universe in half but eventually, it calmed down and closed itself. When, the remaining beasts were about to explode, Nyx covered them with darkness, capturing their flesh. Then, she threw them out of the veil like trash.

"Now, let's head back to sleep." She stated.

"Affirmative…" Amelia yawned.

The two turned around and went back to their respective tents. As Amelia entered, she was met with the melody of snoring – David's snoring. She sighed, glancing at him and went to her bed. She wiped the blood off herself using her powers and threw them out as well. She laid down sideways and pulled the blanket close to her body.

'I can't catch a break, can I?'

She complained within her head but when she closed her eyes, the image of that 'void' appeared again. She blinked.

'Am I going back there again?

She also remembered that figure with the star strewn veil and divine voice. She remembered the swirling darkness and how it collapsed. Then, the words of the woman sounded in her mind again.

"Your finally outside…oh, child who bears my name, am I so happy to meet you. I hope that you carefully tread this path or else I'll lose you…"

Nyx groaned and rolled over. Looking at the ceiling, she contemplated for a moment – questions swirling in her brain like an ocean. Finally, she closed her eyes and hoped for the best.

'If I go there again…I'll ask her question properly this time…'
