Chapter 13 - The Noble King

The Sky Hall was not built like a meeting room.

It was built like a throne room.

Glass walls stretched from floor to ceiling, showing the endless stars outside. The floor was polished black stone, reflecting the lights above like a calm lake at night. At the center of the hall was a long table, but it did not feel like a place for discussion.

It felt like a place where decisions were made.

Decisions that changed lives.

Decisions that ended lives.

Astra walked into the hall first. She wore simple clothes, nothing fancy, nothing that made her look like a celebrity or a champion. She walked like she always did—calm, steady, careful.

Silas Mord arrived a few minutes later, dressed in black as always, looking more like a noble than a survivor of death games.

At the far end of the table stood Cassian Reth.

The Noble King.

He turned when both of them entered and smiled politely.

"Thank you for coming," he said. "Please, sit."

Neither Astra nor Silas sat immediately.

Silas spoke first. "When the second most powerful man in the Arena invites you to a private meeting, you don't sit until you know why you're here."

Cassian smiled slightly. "Fair. Then I'll speak first."

He walked slowly around the table as he spoke.

"Do you know what the Arena really is?" Cassian asked.

"A prison," Astra said.

"A business," Silas said at the same time.

Cassian smiled wider.

"Both correct," he said. "But incomplete."

He stopped walking and looked at the stars outside.

"The Arena is a filter," Cassian said.

"It finds the most talented, the smartest, the strongest, the most dangerous people in the galaxy…"

"…and then it puts them where powerful people can see them."

Astra frowned. "You mean sponsors."

Cassian nodded. "Sponsors, governments, military empires, corporations, noble families… people who don't fight wars themselves."

Silas leaned slightly against the chair but still didn't sit. "They watch us fight and then buy the winners."

Cassian pointed at him slightly. "Exactly."

Then Cassian said something that changed the atmosphere completely:

"The Arena is not controlled by the directors."

He paused.

"It is controlled by the Five Families."

The Five Families

A hologram appeared above the table showing five symbols.

Cassian pointed to each one as he spoke.

"The Reth Family — Information, Media, Betting, Rankings."

"The Vorn Family — Military, Weapons, War Contracts."

"The Solari Family — Energy, Stations, Arena Infrastructure."

"The Nexis Family — Intelligence, Assassins, Black Operations."

"The Ordan Family — Finance, Slave Contracts, Player Ownership."

Astra's eyes narrowed. "Player ownership?"

Cassian looked at her directly.

"Yes," he said calmly.

"Some players in the Arena are not fighting to win."

"They are fighting because they are owned."

Silas finally sat down.

"Now the meeting is interesting," he said.

Astra slowly sat down too.

Cassian remained standing.

"The three of you," Cassian said, "are a problem for the Five Families."

Astra frowned. "Three?"

Cassian looked at her.

"You."

"Silas."

"And the Architect — Kael Veyron."

Kael's Name Changes Everything

Silas's smile faded slightly.

Astra leaned forward. "What do you know about Kael?"

Cassian was quiet for a moment.

Then he said:

"Kael Veyron was Rank 1."

"He became Rank 1 faster than anyone in history."

"He won wars inside the Arena."

"He led teams that had zero deaths."

"He cleared impossible dungeons."

"He was offered the Crown."

Astra asked quietly, "What is the Crown?"

Cassian answered:

"The Crown is not a title," he said.

"It is a position."

"Rank 1 becomes the Arena King."

"They stop being a player."

"They start controlling the games."

Silas's eyes sharpened slightly. "So Kael could have ruled the Arena."

Cassian nodded.

"Yes," he said.

"But Kael Veyron refused the Crown."

The Most Dangerous Man in the Arena

Astra was shocked. "Why would anyone refuse that?"

Cassian looked at her and said quietly:

"Because he realized something."

"What?" Astra asked.

Cassian's voice dropped slightly.

"The King is not the one who controls the Arena," he said.

"The Five Families control the King."

Silence filled the Sky Hall.

Silas leaned back in his chair slowly, thinking.

"So Kael refused to become their puppet," Silas said.

Cassian nodded.

"And a few months later," Cassian continued, "Kael Veyron disappeared."

Astra asked quietly, "And then he came back as an Architect…"

Cassian looked at her.

"Yes," he said.

"And since he came back… the Arena has been changing."

More psychological dungeons.

More social games.

More political outcomes.

More champions that don't belong to any family.

Cassian folded his hands behind his back.

"Kael is building something," he said.

Silas asked the most important question:

"A rebellion?"

Cassian smiled slightly.

"No," he said.

"Something much more dangerous."

Cassian's Offer

Cassian finally sat down across from Astra and Silas.

"I will be honest," he said.

"I don't want to destroy the Arena."

"I want to control it."

Silas smiled slightly. "Of course you do."

Cassian looked at Astra.

"But you," Cassian said, "you want to change it."

Then he looked at Silas.

"And you want to break it."

Then he leaned back in his chair.

"And Kael…" Cassian said quietly, "…Kael wants to end it."

The room went silent.

Astra felt a strange feeling in her chest when she heard that.

End it?

The entire Arena?

Was that even possible?

Cassian continued speaking:

"The Five Families are preparing for something."

"They are gathering champions."

"They are buying players."

"They are forming factions."

He looked at both of them.

"So I will give you a choice."

The Choice

Cassian placed two black cards on the table.

"One card means you work with me," he said.

"You get protection, information, resources, and political power."

He placed the second card down.

"The other card means you stay independent."

Silas asked, "And what happens to independent players?"

Cassian answered calmly:

"They usually die."

He stood up and walked toward the glass wall, looking at the stars.

"The next Arena has already been decided," Cassian said.

Astra asked, "What is it?"

Cassian answered without turning around:

"The War Arena."

Silas smiled slightly. "Teams?"

Cassian nodded.

"Armies," he said.

Then he said the most important part:

"The Five Families will each send their champion."

He turned back toward them.

"And this time… it will not be a game."

"It will be a war for control of the Arena itself."

Final Scene — Decision Not Made Yet

Astra looked at the two cards on the table.

Work with a political king.

Or stay alone against the most powerful families in the galaxy.

Silas picked up one of the cards, looked at it, then put it back down.

"I don't like being owned," Silas said.

Cassian smiled slightly. "Everyone is owned by someone. The smart ones just choose by who."

Astra did not touch the cards.

She stood up.

"I'll give you my answer later," she said.

Silas stood up too. "Me too."

They both started walking toward the exit.

Just before they left, Cassian said one last thing:

"If you don't choose a side…"

They both stopped walking.

Cassian finished the sentence:

"…a side will choose you."

Outside the Sky Hall, Astra and Silas walked in silence for a while.

Then Silas said quietly:

"War Arena. Five Families. Kael the former Rank 1."

He looked at Astra and smiled slightly.

"Tell me, Champion," he said.

"Are we becoming heroes…"

He paused.

"…or are we becoming something much more dangerous?"

Astra looked straight ahead as they walked.

Then she answered:

"I don't know about heroes."

She paused.

"But if this is a war…"

Her eyes hardened slightly.

"…then we're going to need an army."
