Chapter 1 - The First Design

The crowd roared like a living beast.

Billions of voices, echoing across planets, feeding into a single broadcast—the greatest spectacle in the galaxy.

A man stood at the center of a massive stone platform, his golden blade raised toward the sky.

"I WILL CLEAR THIS DUNGEON!"

His voice trembled—not with fear, but with pride.

Above him, massive floating screens displayed his name:

[Challenger: Darius Kain — Rank B Hero]

The crowd loved him.

A rising star. Strong. Confident. A hero in every sense of the word.

The perfect sacrifice.

A deep mechanical voice echoed across the arena.

"Welcome, Challenger."

The ground beneath Darius shimmered as ancient runes lit up one by one.

"This dungeon has been designed for your evaluation."

A pause.

Then—

"The Architect hopes you survive."

Far away, in a silent control room, a man sat alone.

No cheers.

No lights.

No glory.

Only screens.

Hundreds of them.

Kael Veyron leaned back in his chair, his expression unreadable as he observed the live feed. His sharp eyes tracked every movement, every breath, every hesitation.

A guard stood behind him, arms crossed.

"You're quiet," the guard muttered. "First design and you don't even look nervous."

Kael didn't respond immediately.

Instead, he tapped a finger against the console.

On one screen, Darius stepped forward cautiously, scanning the dungeon.

Stone pillars.

Shallow water.

A wide, open arena.

Simple.

Too simple.

Kael finally spoke.

"People like him always think they understand the battlefield."

The guard frowned. "And he doesn't?"

Kael's gaze didn't shift.

"He understands what he can see."

A soft click.

That was all it took.

Back inside the dungeon—

Darius took another step.

Then another.

The water beneath his boots rippled.

He stopped.

"…Strange."

The surface wasn't reflecting light properly.

Too dark.

Too deep.

The crowd leaned forward.

Something felt wrong.

Then—

The water moved.

Not like liquid.

Like something alive.

Darius jumped back instantly, blade ready.

"What the—?!"

The calm surface began to sink.

Slowly at first.

Then faster.

The entire floor of the arena started collapsing into a dark abyss beneath.

"What is this?!" he shouted.

No answer.

Only the cold voice of the system:

"Phase One initiated."

In the control room, Kael's fingers moved again.

Another command.

The pillars shifted.

Not randomly.

Precisely.

Blocking paths.

Creating angles.

Forcing movement.

The guard's eyes widened. "You're controlling his movement…"

Kael spoke quietly.

"I'm controlling his decisions."

Darius dashed forward, leaping onto one of the stone pillars as the water swallowed the ground below.

He breathed heavily, eyes scanning for a safe route.

"Think… think!"

The pillars were spaced unevenly.

Too far for a normal jump.

But not impossible.

He grinned.

"So that's it… a test of agility."

The crowd cheered again.

"That's our hero!"

"He figured it out!"

Darius crouched slightly—

And jumped.

Kael pressed another button.

Mid-air, Darius felt it.

A sudden pull.

His body dropped faster than expected.

"…What?!"

He barely managed to grab the edge of the next pillar, his blade scraping against stone.

His arms trembled as he pulled himself up.

"Gravity… changed?"

His heartbeat sped up.

This wasn't normal.

This wasn't fair.

In the control room—

"It's not about fairness," Kael said.

The guard stared at him.

"…Then what is it about?"

Kael's eyes remained fixed on the screen.

"Truth."

Darius stood again, breathing harder now.

His confidence cracked.

Just a little.

"Okay… okay…"

He looked ahead.

More pillars.

More jumps.

But now—

He hesitated.

And that was the first mistake.

Kael leaned forward slightly.

"Fear always comes late," he murmured.

"Right after the first wrong assumption."

The water below surged violently now, as if reacting to his doubt.

The pillars shifted again.

Routes changed.

Safe paths disappeared.

"What is this dungeon?!" Darius shouted.

No answer.

Only silence.

And the distant sound of the audience… beginning to quiet down.

Kael watched him carefully.

Analyzing.

Measuring.

Not his strength.

Not his speed.

But his mind.

"Come on," Kael whispered softly.

"Show me who you really are."

Darius clenched his fists.

"No… I can do this."

He jumped again.

This time, more carefully.

More controlled.

But slower.

Too slow.

The pillar beneath him sank the moment he landed.

His eyes widened.

"No—!"

He leapt again desperately—

But misjudged the distance.

His fingers brushed the edge—

Slipped—

And his body fell into the black below.

Silence.

Then—

The system spoke.

"Challenger eliminated."

The crowd went quiet.

For a moment.

Then erupted.

Some cheered.

Some laughed.

Some simply watched.

In the control room—

The guard exhaled slowly.

"…He was strong."

Kael stood up.

"Yes."

He turned away from the screen.

"But he wasn't thinking."

The guard studied him carefully.

"You didn't even give him a chance."

Kael paused at the doorway.

For a brief second—

Something cold passed through his eyes.

"I gave him many."

Then he walked out.

Behind him, the screens flickered.

Resetting.

Preparing.

Waiting for the next challenger.

And somewhere deep within the system…

Something was watching Kael back.

Learning.

"Architect… interesting."

The game had just begun.
