Chapter 103 - Chapter 103: Pikachu’s Battle of Redemption

Leaving behind the Island, where the atmosphere had turned subtle yet harmonious, Ash and his group continued traveling across the sparkling seas of the Orange Archipelago on Lapras.

The sea breeze carried the warmth of the sun as it brushed against their faces, lifting their spirits.

Ash seemed to have completely moved past his earlier mood. He and Pikachu played reaction speed games on Lapras's back, while Misty and Tracey watched with smiles, feeling much more at ease.

Just as they were enjoying the seamless view of sea and sky, a small speedboat approached rapidly from behind, skillfully pulling alongside Lapras.

Standing on the boat was a dark skinned, well built young man. He wore a sleeveless athletic shirt, his sharp eyes filled with fighting spirit.

"Hey! Hello there!" he called out loudly, his gaze quickly locking onto Ash. When he spotted Pikachu on Ash's shoulder, his eyes lit up. "You're Ash from Pallet Town, right? The Indigo League Champion?"

Ash looked at the boy, and memories from before surfaced in his mind. This was Tad, the trainer who used Poliwrath. In their past battle, Charizard's disobedience had led to a tough fight and ultimately a defeat. But that loss had become the turning point that made Charizard truly acknowledge him.

But that was all in the past. Now, Charizard was one of his most trusted partners.

"Yes, I'm Ash. And you are?" Ash replied calmly.

"My name's Tad!" the boy said excitedly, his tone full of challenge. "I didn't expect to run into the Champion here! I've seen your battles on TV, they were amazing! Since we've met, how about a battle? Let me see the strength of a Champion with my own eyes!"

Misty and Tracey looked at Ash, waiting for his answer.

Ash's gaze settled on Tad, more precisely on the familiar Poké Ball at his waist.

He recalled how, in the past, Pikachu had lost to Tad's Poliwrath due to the unfavorable matchup and the opponent's powerful fighting techniques.

Although Charizard could easily handle it now, Ash lowered his head and looked at Pikachu on his shoulder. Pikachu's eyes were burning with eagerness and determination. He could feel Pikachu's unwillingness to accept defeat.

"Pika?" Pikachu nuzzled Ash's cheek when he noticed the look.

"Alright!" Ash raised his head, his eyes turning sharp and focused. "We accept your challenge! But my opponent will be this one." He pointed at Pikachu on his shoulder. "Pikachu will battle you."

Tad paused for a moment, then laughed. "Using Pikachu against my Poliwrath? Sure, you've got the type advantage, but my Poliwrath is no ordinary one. Are you sure?"

"You'll find out soon enough." Ash smiled confidently. "Pikachu, I choose you!"

"Pika!" Pikachu leapt down from Ash's shoulder and landed steadily on the sandy ground, electricity crackling from his cheeks as he radiated fighting spirit.

Seeing this, Tad's competitive nature flared up as well. "Interesting! Then let me show you the results of my training with Poliwrath! Go, Poliwrath!"

With a flash of light, a powerfully built Poliwrath appeared on the beach. The golden belt around its waist gleamed under the sunlight, its steady gaze locked forward as it took a standard fighting stance, exuding an overwhelming pressure.

"I'll make the first move!" Tad commanded. "Poliwrath, use Mind Reader, then follow up with Ice Punch!"

Poliwrath pushed off the ground with explosive force, launching itself like a cannonball. Its fist gathered icy energy as it charged forward with unstoppable momentum, striking straight at Pikachu. With Mind Reader in effect, the next attack was guaranteed to hit.

That meant the Ice Punch would definitely land.

"Pikachu, don't take it head on. Use Quick Attack to dodge!" Ash commanded calmly.

Pikachu turned into a streak of white light, narrowly sliding sideways at the very last moment before the punch could connect, moving so fast it left behind an afterimage.

"So fast!" Tad was startled, but quickly reacted. "Poliwrath, the moment you land, use Water Gun!"

Poliwrath landed firmly on the sand, stabilizing itself as it immediately fired a thick, powerful stream of water from its chest. The attack covered a wide area, nearly blocking every possible escape route for Pikachu.

"Pikachu, use Agility and charge straight through the water stream! Then use Iron Tail to split it apart!" Ash's command caught everyone off guard.

Pikachu's speed surged once again. Instead of dodging, it charged straight against the Water Gun! Its small body ran along the thick stream of water as if surfing, while its tail glowed with a metallic sheen and slashed fiercely downward at the water beneath it!

"What?!" Tad's eyes widened in shock.

Iron Tail struck precisely at the core of the Water Gun. With sheer force, it split the stream cleanly in half, forcibly opening a path forward!

Racing along the divided water, Pikachu closed the distance in an instant, charging straight toward Poliwrath on the beach!

"Now, Thunderbolt!" Ash gave the command at the perfect moment when Pikachu was closest to its opponent.

"Pika... CHU!!"

At point blank range, brilliant golden lightning surged wildly, completely engulfing Poliwrath!

As a Water and Fighting type, Poliwrath was hit for massive damage by the Electric attack. It let out a pained grunt, its body convulsing violently on the sand. Combined with the residual water from its own Water Gun conducting the electricity, the damage was even greater!

"Poliwrath!" Tad shouted anxiously.

Relying on its incredible willpower and sturdy physique, Poliwrath barely endured the close range Thunderbolt. But its body was scorched black, and it was breathing heavily, clearly badly injured.

"It's not over yet!" Tad gritted his teeth. "Poliwrath, show your spirit! Dynamic Punch!"

Poliwrath forced itself to move, gathering violent Fighting energy into its right fist. With a faint tearing sound in the air, it swung heavily toward Pikachu, which had just returned to the sand. The sheer power of the blow meant that if it connected, it could decide the match in one strike.

However, the coordination between Ash and Pikachu was no longer what it used to be.

"Pikachu, Double Team!"

In an instant, more than a dozen Pikachu appeared across the battlefield, their images indistinguishable from one another.

Poliwrath's Dynamic Punch passed straight through one of the illusions, missing completely. The tremendous force smashed into the sand, leaving a deep crater behind.

"Behind you! Electro Ball!" Ash's command came like a whisper from nowhere.

Poliwrath had just finished its attack and had not yet recovered, leaving its back wide open. The real Pikachu had somehow already slipped behind it, forming a glowing Electro Ball and slamming it hard onto Poliwrath's back!

Boom!

The Electro Ball exploded, its powerful impact combined with raging electricity blasting the already exhausted Poliwrath into the air. It crashed heavily back onto the sand, its eyes spinning into spirals as it completely lost the ability to battle.

Silence fell over the sea, broken only by the sound of the waves.

Tad stared in disbelief at his defeated Poliwrath, then looked at Pikachu, who was breathing slightly but still had bright, determined eyes. Finally, he took a deep breath.

"I… lost." He recalled Poliwrath, his voice carrying shock and a hint of disappointment, but even more respect. "As expected of the Champion… the strength of you and your Pikachu is far beyond what I imagined."

"Your Poliwrath is strong, especially its willpower," Ash said sincerely. "But battles are not just about strength. They are also about strategy, speed, and belief. You and your Poliwrath still have a lot of room to grow."

Tad raised his head and met Ash's honest gaze, free of any arrogance. The disappointment in his heart gradually turned into renewed determination.

"Thank you, Ash. I learned a lot from this battle! I'll keep training hard! Next time we meet, I'll be even stronger!"

"I'll be looking forward to it." Ash smiled and nodded.

After parting with Tad, whose fighting spirit had been reignited, Lapras continued its journey toward Navel Island.

Misty looked at Ash and said with a smile, "Pikachu was amazing just now! That Quick Attack into Iron Tail to break the Water Gun was incredible!"

Tracey nodded. "Both the strategy and execution were flawless."

Ash gently patted Pikachu's head, feeling completely at ease.

This was not just a victory. It was a step beyond the past, a mark of growth shared between him and Pikachu.

"Pika pika!" Pikachu chirped happily, rubbing against Ash's hand.

Under the blue sea and clear sky, the journey ahead remained long, but with each battle they fought side by side, the bond between the boy and his partner grew ever stronger, unshakable.
